Anyone lose more than 50lbs in this age group (over 60) ?
haleytrim replied to Reddrobin's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I can't tell you guys what a boost it is to read about your successes!! I have a question though. How long did it take or how much weight did you drop before you really felt like moving. I am so sluggish and achy with my weight and my type II diabetes keeps me so fatigued that when I get home from work I am a complete zombie! I am hopeful that after surgery and a little weight loss my long lost energy will begin to resurface. -

EAS Whey Protein or Recommendations?
haleytrim replied to danaschultz26's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Moxy, Can you give some examples of what you mix it with? I mean like can you mix it with coffee? Is hot or cold better? Is it 30 grams per scoop? And how much can you mix without tasting? Thanks for the info. The Protein thing really has me worried. -
something apropros Oprah said once--re: "the easy way out"

Dear Momto6ix, I compare it to giving an alcoholic a pill that makes them sick in an attempt to stop the self destructive behavior. In my case, my relationship with food is destructive. A vicious cycle that alternately makes me happy then depressed. The Depression is so bad that I have to be on medication so that I can function. The medication makes me not care that I am obese, temporarily, during which time I eat what I want which makes me happy until someone or something (reality) jumps up and bites me in the butt. Just as alcoholism is a disease, so is obesity. The only way to "cure" it is to stop the cycle of depression and lack of self confidence and self esteem and unfortunately, the way to do that is to become what is "accepted" by society as "normal". So, I have put myself through 40 years of experiments and tortures, many of which were in some way or another hazardous to my body. I have done enormous amounts of research in preparation for this change. I am more than prepared to take this "pill" in order to change myself physically, mentally and emotionally. I am also looking forward to the possibility of improving my blood pressure and type II diabetes. I am reminded of the old addage "walk a mile in my shoes". -

Everyone is different. Some have hernia repair, some have pre-surgery gastric reflux, some are more susceptible to nausea. Your doctor must have his reasons, could just be from his experience with his patients. Go with what he says and you will know that you have done everything in your power to be successful. -
I can't wait to do the 5K Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning with my daughter and granddaughters!

I am a Pinterest Freak! Oh wait, this is not Pinterest Anonymous.... I found the greatest information today. Search Bariatric meals on Pinterest and you will find more recipes than you can shake a stick at! Some look so yummy I might have to try them before I have my surgery.

Snarky Comebacks to Snarky Comments
haleytrim replied to Miss Mac's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
A bit snarky back but I think it would do the trick: Look closely at the corner of their mouth and sweetly say,"Excuse me, but there is a tiny bit of BS left on your lip." -
Why are some weight loss surgery patients so clueless?
haleytrim replied to VSGAnn2014's topic in Rants & Raves
VSGAANN2014...I agree with your assessment. It's like ok, I've had the surgery and that takes care of the fat. Now that I don't have to worry about that anymore, back to real life eating and drinking. Wake up and smell the coffee!! This is a forever battle. The surgery is just a little help! -

Question...what has been the hardest thing to deal with post op?
haleytrim replied to swtpea637's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Linda from Florida, I was wondering about liquid Vitamins myself. Have you tried them and if so are there any that are recommended? -
You fall off, you get up and get right back on that bicycle! I have not had the surgery yet, and already I am spending a lot of time worrying about failing....gotta' stop that and spend more time praying about it. Prayers going up for you too!

Congratulations on a mental hurdle crossed!

Dr. Ariel Ortiz at the OCC
haleytrim replied to Kindle's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Guys, I keep seeing stuff about A Dr. Ariel Ortiz with OCC. Are there two Dr. Ortiz's? I have been researching Dr. Elias Ortiz and was beginning to feel very comfortable with asking that he do my sleeve in October. Please tell me that Ariel Ortiz is not the same person. -

self medicated injections?
haleytrim replied to Amarie812's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery for a broken leg and even though I was not on blood thinners and my mom indicated to my doc that I might have issues with clotting. NOT! Anyway, he gave me lovenox and it was really no problem. The needle is so tiny you barely know it is going in as the weight of the syringe makes it slide right in. Just remember to push the syringe slowly. The only reason for that is to prevent bruising. There is no pain, but if you don't want little bruise dots on your stomach inject it slowly. I also now have to do insulin twice daily, which I am hoping to eliminate with the sleeve, and as I said earlier, the needles are so tiny that unless you hit a nerve, you will never know you took the shot. At least this has been my experience.
