Whew! About me?! Let's see, I am 27 years old (though I always forget and just tell people I'm 30, close enough right?), I am overweight (285lbs 5'6"ish) and am currently in the process that will lead me to a Roux-en-Y. I have never been a fan of the idea of "going under the knife" for anything, ever, but recently, life has taken a turn, and age has swiftly caught up with me. I have fibromyalgia, PCOS w/Insulin resistance, infertility (thanks to PCOS) and hypoglycemia. Keeping my sugar up does NOT help the weight issue, but I can say I'm blessed to have low blood sugar! I was on Metformin, and that wreaked havoc on my sugar, dropping it from its usual 4.4 down to 3.0 (Canadian numbers) which landed me in the hospital 3 times, and caused excruciating pain in my abdomen (kind of like what I imagine a knife sweeping its way through my intestines would feel like).
After 10 years of struggling with weight, hypoglycemia, PCOS, and other weight related (but not necessarily caused) issues, my amazing OB-GYN (when my family doctor wouldn't) pushed me through to "Windsor's Regional Bariatric Assessment and Treatment Centre", in hopes of giving me back some sembalance of order. My Orientation is scheduled for July 10th, 2014, and my brother is my support person (which kind of makes me cry since we did not grow up together, he is my closest family member). I've gone through all of the materials I could get my hands on, but still have some unanswered questions, so if there is anyone else from my area with info.... FILL ME IN!!!
I live for research, and get extremely frazzled when I can't find it (main reason I came here!!!)
