  1. I lost 22 lbs through the first two weeks post, then stalled at 240 for about 2 and a half weeks. Just started dropping again.

    Having a hard time....

I am just a day over 5 weeks, I was told by my nut after the two weeks, no more of the sf popsicles, Jello, etc. because those would now be considered Snacks. Allowed meat (turkey, chicken, fish only) cubed or tiny bites chewed very well and no skin. Not allowed vegetables or fruit until after 6 weeks.

    NSV

I reemember 25 or so years ago when I went on Nutrisystem and got down to a 34 slim and how excited I was to show the family I could fit into a pair of jeans that said slim on them. Looking forward to getting back to that point.
  4. I have less than a week when I can discontinue having to crush pills. YUCK! I use chewable Vitamins for all my vitamins which makes them too big to use in a weekly pill divider. When I can go back to taking my pills whole, I am definitely using my divider again to keep track.

    Sweet tooth!

@@Linda774 I'm going to have to try this.
  6. I have a problem getting in Water requirement without flavoring. I use the Walmart Great Value packets. You get 10 packets for like a buck. Without the flavoring added, water sits hard on my stomach and I used to drink water all the time presurgery.
  7. bodybuilding.com is a good place
  8. I ended up with a kidney stone 2 weeks post surgery on my right side. Was very painful, had them before, but nothing like this one. On the way to have a CT scan done, felt a twinge on my left side. Sure enought, found kidney stones in my left kidney also. Not saying it was from the surgery I had, no telling how long they had been there, but to have stones on both sides just 2 weeks post surgery was not fun. Just had the stent removed on the right side yesterday and that was another very painful experience.

    OMG The stomach pain!

I don't know how you drink your Water, but this is what I do. I put some in my mouth and swallow down small little sips until it's gone. If I try to drink the water straight down from the glass, I get stomach pains.
  10. I would like to know your Vitamin schedule and how to take these bitterly crushed pills. I was informed by my NUT that I will be taking pillls crushed for the first 6 weeks. Suffering through the bitterness of it all. She has me taking Prilosec OTC, 5 Calcium citrate w/vit D, B-50 complex, Ursodiol (for prevention of Gallstones empty the capsule), plus 5 other prescription tablets. (These are the things I have to take crushed each day). I also take 2 chewable Centrums a day and a sublingual B-12 once a week. This is my ideal day of taking Vitamins Take chewable Centrum upon waking About 2 hours later, I try to take 1 calcium citrate, B-50, and Ursodiol. After another few hours, I try to remember to take another 2 calcium citrate About 5:30 or 6:00 I take the last 2 calcium citrate and my prescription meds. About 8:00 or 9:00 take the last chewable Centrum. I have not yet figured out a way to take these without having to suffer through the bitterness. I just crush them all, make a little paste with Water in a small dose cup and try to get it down as quick as possible. I can't believe they haven't yet come back up on me after taking them because the taste is horrible. What ways did you use to get through crushing your meds and taking them?
  11. Ok, I've finally found the way for me to take my crushed meds without the bitter taste, in fact with no taste at all. I crush my meds first, take a creamy greek yogurt, I stir my yogurt up and scrape off any on the bottom of the spoon on the side of the cup, I have a little left on top (not heeping over side of teaspoon), with another spoon I make a little well in that yogurt and pour the crushed meds in that, then cover with yogurt using the other spoon, then just gulp it like a yogurt capsule. Goes down very easy and best of all no bitter taste.
  12. My NUT and nurse practitioner has me crushing meds for 6 weeks. I find it very hard to tollerate. Nurse practitioner said not to mix with applesauce or Peanut Butter, that I can mix with soft Proteins. I'm wondering how long your doctor had you crushing meds.
  13. What chewables are you using? Yes the 5 calcium citrate crushed are nasty.
  14. This was the first surgery that I had had in my 51 year life. Had no what kind of pain to expect. The pain was a little more than I expected and couldn't get comfortable in bed. The biggest incision seemed like it was constantly pulling and made me a bit nauseus so they were giving me something for nausea. They were willing to let me go after one night, but I asked to stay for one more just because of the nausea.
  15. If you're on that preop diet and you begin feeling what I describe as a little bit of "acid breath", kind of like your breath leaves a little of a "fuel" taste in you mouth or your lungs are feeling a little different. I thought I'd take a moment and tell you what that is just in case you didn't know. When you go on a low carb diet, which is what we're on, your body will begin burning fats for energy. A by-product of the fat metabolism is ketones. You will get a build up of ketones in your bloodstream and become a little acidic. These ketones are expelled in urine. If you're not drinking enough Water, and producing the producing the urine needed to get rid of these ketones, your lungs will begin to give off more of the acid which is giving that feeling in your lungs. So to get rid of the "acid lung" feeling, drink more water. This will get rid of those ketones and make you feel better.
  16. Scheduled for 11/10
  17. Very sick of it already. How to get throught it?!?!? liquids and nonstarchy vegetables. Going to have to get to the store for some sugar free popsicles and Jello. Thank goodness I at least have my Protein shakes.
  18. You are lucky, maybe I should switch to your surgeon. =) I'm hoping it's worth it too. I know it will be.
  19. Thank goodness I like cherry tomatoes. Only bad thing is if I eat too many they give me canker sores.

Congrats, good to know everything worked out well.

    Friend=approved: me= denied

So have they said what you'd need to do to get accepted? I can understand the frustration. My wife and I are both doing this together also and I just finished my last weight check and her's is going to be this Friday. I lost a little each visit, so don't think there will be a problem with me, I'm hoping my wife's weight is down also. I don't know how things would go if she were to not get accepted. All I can say is contact insurance and file an appeal and see what you need to do now to get accepted. Be supportive of your husband and I'm sure he will be supportive of you. Work together, use him as a guinea pig to see how things go and know what you're up for. Hopefully insurance will work with you to get you accepted too.

So what was the reason given for them to deny you?
  23. So my wife and I had to go to 2 required meetings lastnight. One of the meetings was where the dietician talks about diet expectations prior to and after surgery. The other class (don't remember what the name of the class was) was discussion group for those that had been through surgery with questions and those that had not yet had surgery that might have questions or for motivation. We only had 3 people at the meeting that had had the surgery (all had the bypass). One of the preop people asked if they didn't mind, would they tell us how long it was they had the surgery and how much weight they had lost. One of the women said she was a little embarrased because she was 6 weeks post surgery and had only lost 40 pounds. Everyone told her that was great. In my head I'm thinking that if I could lose 40 pounds in 6 weeks, I wouldn't need to worry about the surgery. Most dieticians and doctors when they put you on a diet only want you to lose 1 to 2 pounds per week. At most on a normal diet 12 pounds in 6 weeks would have been the max.
