August Sleevers Check In
angieprks replied to Sweet Pea STL Sleever's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't feel that I had a horrible amount of pain, but everyone's tolerance and experience is different. What I can tell you is I remember at some point thinking the same thing you are and being 10 days it's gets better with each. It might not feel like that the first 5 days but there is gonna a day you wake up and think to yourself gee I feel so much better than yesterday. -

Hey you have to let me know how it goes!!!! I have been wondering about that. I am a CNA for Hospice and I will be back to work next week which will be. 2 1/2 weeks after my surgery. Have been nervous about going back to work, but can't afford to be off longer. I also work 8pm - 8am 12 hour shift overnight..... Please share your experience with me and any tips about going back will help. -
I feel if I always waited the 15 min before or the 45 after EVERYTIME I ate like they suggest I would never drink. I don't think it's harmful. I just think they don't want you to fill up on liquids plus I think it can push certain foods through your pouch faster. So if you do take "sips" just watch how much you are eating. I have not sipped and ate yet but I usually only wait 5-10 minutes after I eat to start drinking again.

Thank you everyone for your responses to the vitamin question. It's amazing how everyone is told different. My doctor and NUT said absolutely no over the counter multi because we can't absorb them as well as the specially made bariatric ones, but I see a lot of people on here where their doctor told them it's ok as long as it's chewable. Who knows maybe my office says these things just to promote the bariatric brand. Maybe they get a kick back. Well for now I went to my 1 week check up today, and asked them what to do. They gave me the bariatric advantage chewable which is only twice a day. I ate one and tolerated it a lot better than the capsule so I will stick to that for now. I love tHeir calcium chews tastes like I am having some candy! I appreciate everyone's input thank you. -
I Really Don't Get It
angieprks replied to Urbanlamb's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@lastingdreams @@Urbanlamb we all had our surgeries on the 18th!!! And to @@lastingdreams I to compare my numbers when I look at others profiles lol. So my favorite response from someone when they found out I was having WLS. Is "why don't you just go on the biggest loser or something?" My response "oh I never thought of that" as I walked away..... LOL people are ignorant especially when they have no idea what you are going through. -

I have a question for everyone. What kind of vitamins does everyone take? My doctor gave me a bottle of the Bariatric Advantage multi with Iron. I am suppose to take it 3 x a day. The capsules seem so huge to me, I am scared it will get stuck if I swallow it whole so I open it up and mix it. I have only managed one a day though and this is why. When I empty the capsule I swear it's like a whole teaspoon full, and then by the time I mix it I have to take two or three bites to get it down. So the. Is like a whole meal, I can't choke it down like that three tîmes a day. It tastes so disgusting I just don't know what to do.. I wanted to get ideas of what other people are doing. And if anyone has the same vitamins do they swallow it? -

As I read through posts everyday it amazes me how different some of the requirements are on diets for everyone. I see where some people had to stomach puréed food before they left the hospital, some where they have to be on liquids for a month (I couldn't handle that), and then for me just liquids this first week. Tomorrow morning I get my clearance to start my puréed diet. I am so excited to have something other than broth or yogurt. And to whomever questioned never having chicken or turkey again? That's a first for me. On my puréed diet my NUT gave an example as chicken puréed with lite mayo. She just said if you eat chicken dark is moister and whatever it is make it moisty to go down. On a side note, OMG the cravings for different tastes of food. I have been making my husband gourmet meals and fancy sandwiches just because I have food on the mind. I watch him eat it as my "fulfillment" lol. He feels horrible d doesn't understand how I can do that and not eat it. I chop it up to some mighty good will power. Of course I have been making healthier stuff for the family too. -

OMG the spasms are horrible!!! I had tried to lay in bed the other night and had to get up because they made my chest sore!!!! I beginning to wonder if it's acid reflux. I have been taking a PPI but I think maybe I will try a tums and see if that helps. Glad to know I am not the only one. -

I was the exact same way!!!!! I got a little taste of it when I had my endoscopy done and it was AMAZING! Then when I went it for surgery even better! They got me under quickly once I arrived to the OR room so there was no escalating of anxiety plus early on they gave me a shot of versad which also helped with calming the nerves. Trust me they take GOOD care of you. Before you know it you are waking up in recovery. Barely feels like you asleep that long. I remember waking up and feeling like I really had to pee even they put a catheter in, and I tried to sit up but couldn't. Whatever the nurse gave me sent me right back to dreamland. The first few days you will be taking quite a few naps. -

5 days post op... a lot of questions/concerns about the future
angieprks replied to adamj32993's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Dear Adam, I too have just had the sleeve on Monday August 18, but one of my good friends had it back in February so she is now six months out. I call her constantly with questions. She drank a few months out and all she said was it made her a cheap date. Lol. I believe they want you to wait three months so your stomach is completely healed so it's not like alcohol on an open wound. My nutritionist wants us to wait a year to drink ( probably won't happen for me) because she said it can lead to bad decisions. The whole first year is just trying to get you to relearn how to eat. They really just want you to put Protein in first. Yes because you are so young you probably won't have as bad saggy skin if you exercise, but would you rather be fat with man boobs or skinny with saggy boobs? Doesn't really seem to be that important as it does when it comes to being healthy. Don't stress about your social life you will find a way to make it fit. Keep reading forums and blogs and you will see how everyone deals with different things and moves along. You will be alright. Just don't push yourself otherwise in the long run you can and will regain your weight and stretch your stomach back out. -
I am set for August 18th. I am having such anxiety, but super excited at the same time.

Calling all August Sleevers!
angieprks replied to Tracis weight loss journey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well it's 3 in the morning the day after my surgery and I am wide awake so I thought I write how it went. I actually didn't have any anxiety coming in I really thought I was gonna get it bad, but I stayed pretty calm. As I am sure some people do I was questioning if I was doing the right thing, but told myself it is what it is and what is meant to be. So everyone here at the hospital has been super super nice. The whole process has been pretty smoothe. I met a bunch of people while in "holding" before I went into the OR. They gave me a little versed IV before to calm my nerves, then when wheeled into the OR and transferred onto the table they didn't waste anytime getting me under lol. When I woke up that was what I feared the most prior to surgery, how much pain I was going to be in. Now I can't lie I was definitely uncomfortable, but they medicated me pretty well. When I was transferred into my room they hooked me up to a PCA pump which has become my new best friend lol. Right now I am just sore and the "pain" I get I can only explain as this. On my right side it feels like that cramp you get when you ate to much and then went swimming, that's how it feels. Oh and I have to be NPO until this morning when they take me to do a swallow test to check for leaks, then I can start having fluids. I can actually say I am not hungry but my throat is soooo dry. Trying to talk to people hurts sometimes. I get to rub wet sponges in my mouth but it's my throat that's so dry. I have gotten up and walked 3 times and have transferred to the chair a few times. I can't express how important it is to get up and walk. It has helped me in feeling better. I was not afraid to use my PCA pump either. They told me the first time I was going to get up around 5 so at 4 I started loading up, I was allowed to hit my button every 6 mins. Some people may not be able to tolerate that, but it worked for me. They also have been giving me "reglan" not sure how it's spelt to help with nausea which has made the pain meds tolerable. All and all I am doing pretty good and I won't be in a rush to get home LOL. I am writing this because I know I look to see how others have expierenced stuff and one thing I wanted to know the most is the pain! So after I finally get to have some liquids I will come back and let you know how it goes. For all those getting sleeved soon I wish you the best of luck. I hope this helps someone. -
Calling all August Sleevers!

I know my surgery day is fast approaching...... I have gone through all the steps, doctors appointments, my pre-op diet, I just feel like it hasn't totally hit me as a reality. When I do think about this overwhelming anxiety comes to me. I know it's just the thought of surgery. I am, however, super excited about the outcome afterwards. I wish it was here and I was healing already. LOL I love this website. I have spent countless hours the past couple months reading over everyone's experiences, stories, concerns, questions. I just have to throw a big THANK YOU out there to everyone on this site and who take it seriously. I know I haven't posted to much but I have definitely read a whole lot, and it has helped me prepare for this so really thank you. -
Learning how to say no to things. It kills me how much food can take over my thoughts.
-
I hear you... I had so many things I'd eat just triggered by habit. My son asked me for money yesterday to stop by McDonalds and I automatically said "get me chocolate chip cookies" before I even thought about it. I loved those cookies but they'd probably make me sick as a dog if I had them now. He laughed at me and didn't buy the cookies.
I'm hoping it gets easier with time.

LOL I know it's all about learning to say no to stuff. I get so mad at myself that I couldnt just say no before and had to come to surgery. I have also learned that it is not just that easy. I am excited and nervous for my new "tool". A friend of mine had the sleeve done this year in February and she said it also has seem to change her taste for things as well. She doesn't seem to care for sweets as much anymore. I sure hope that's the case for me, but I know everyone is different.
