  1. yes!! its NORMAL! I was a nervous wreck I was excited anxous for myself..I had been wanting this done for yrs..did all my research had everything ready but I swear I was having every emotion imaginable...its going to be ok! its a big lifesstyle change but you wouldnt have gotten this far if you really werent ready! I had mine in July...I have went from 260 to 188...BEST decision!! my surgeon was right...the first month is the hardest..Im not going to lie about it..but Im sure you have already talked about this an your dr discussed it. but believe me...I had my doubts the first month but I lost almost 30 pds the first month! I knew then it would actually work for me... stick to your plan..call your dr when your in doubt..you will get thru...wish you the best an hang in there...get some rest tonight if all possible...keep us posted...for me coming out of surgery was rough..I had gas in my chest..some do some dont...I took gas x strips with me to the hospital an chapstick...I stayed 2 nights..I also had hernia repair..I spasmed in my esophagas..so I couldnt drink much..so I told my surgeon leave me another night to stay hooked up to fluids...by the end of the second day I was ready to go home...walk walk walk !!!!! drink your fluids if all possible.
  2. I had blood insulin levels were going up an down have hashis an was insulin resistance ..i had sleeve done 3 months ago down 64 pds off metformin since day one an went on armour thyroid doing good! If you have already living a life of free sugars an junk food you are a step ahead- its hard I'm not going to lie, but a person has to be willing to do a drastic lifestyle change for life to be sucessful- ppl can put weight back on but its from goin back to bad eating habits usually not always. My insulin levels stay around 70 now..do research..not on the cons aspect bc it will turn you away, but as my surgeon said thy have come along ways..death rate is down to extremely low. The benefits outweigh the risk. Im soooo happy i did this i wish i had done it yrs ago. An i didn't discuss this with family or friends just immediate 3 my hubs was one--didnt want to hear everyone's comments or opinions. Their irrelivant..best wishes!!

    DO WE ALL NEED THERAPY?

Iv been in therapy for 3 yrs..it took me a yr to get to the bottom of my emotional soothing. an then when I finally reached the underlyning issues it was like a light bulb moment. your subconscince will work on you when you have been wronged. Behavior changes has to take place. emotional eating is a behavior. when we change one behavior we must replace with another. yea, Iv been in therapy for a while it has helped me termendously. I didnt go thru all of this to myself to end up like this again..BUT..logically right? it will take constant effort for me to NOT eat out of bordom, emotions, big family gatherings that luv to be centered around food, etc...thats why when we go thru the psych eval they learn some things about each one and thats also why they are available during this journey. I would take advantage of it as much as possible an not be afraid to use it. I see mine once monthly sometimes up to 3 months in between. thats my input therapy puts things in percpective.

    Lupus and the Sleeve

I have several autoimmune diseases lupus being one of them..its not up to the rhumatologists to make that desicion for you if I was you I would make another app to see her ...I dont know how lupus is affecting you or the meds you take an so on an so on..but when I brought it up to my rhumey that I was going thru the process an I just asked her for her opinion shes kinda a large women herself, but she said she does have a pt who had it done an losing the weight was good . thats all she commented on. thank goodness I didnt need release from all my drs, my biggest one to release was psych an my endocrinologists. I was insulin resistance an prediabetic an hashimoto, she told me this is the reasons why she referred me to have it done bc my weight would do nothing but go up!! losing weight might help your joints..however I have been in major flair since I had this done. my lower back has locked up on twice now. just prepare yourself. it could happen. I belong on a lupus support group an thres a few of us that has had it done. if you dont mind me asking why is your rhumey not being supportive? hope all goes well. keep us posted.

    doing okay but frustrated!

I bought a jug of unflavored protein 20 gram serving an I put it in everything! from my coffee, hot tea, I was eating tomatoe soup I would add it in, I would put it in my pudding, broths..etc..even though I was only about to get an oz or 2 in at a time thats what I did. I did drink 2 chocolate shakes a day but the feeling of tired an no energy thats going to take awhile to get it back. you just had major surgery your body is using what lil calories its getting to use toward healing. its going to take time. Im 3 months out an still have to pace myself. make sure you get your fluids.it was a lil while before I could get all requirments in just do the best you can an improve it daily. I was gagging over shakes an all of it after 2 or 3 wks! I also went thru mourning process of not able to eat regular food. it was bad for me. even though I was fully aware of it going thru this psychologically it still affects you. your body is used to comfort food an releasing the brain chemicals dopamine an seratonin an it does mess with your brain an tummy.. but we all work thru it. hang in there!! it gets soo much better. I still only eat 2 oz at a setting an I make sure I eat my protein first. keep us posted!

    Really upset with psych

its good youv already put into the practice your new lifestyle. keep it up. I know what your going thru on the psych part. of course I had to see the staff affiliated with my surgeon as well, when I got to my app with their psych fortunatly she was very nice an easy to talk to. of course going thru their questions I was honest, an I told her I see this other one full time have been for yrs an I really like her to. she says they do these evaluations to see if we honestly realize what we are going to go thru the difficulties emotionally an mentally that this will cause an they have to make sure we are stable in those areas. and of course i told her I had been thinking about this off an on for over 10 yrs, an it got to the point 2 of my specialists referred me to have this done. I didnt have a problem with her but I had to get my regular psych dr to release me ...so she faxed the release papers to her an my dr agreed to everything except she made a notation at the bottom saying that at our last visit which was 2 months earlier that I "seemed" upset or on edge or uneasy. well the staff called me an told me she knew if she submitted this release to my Ins with the rest of all my paperwork that they would deny me..so I told her DO NOT send that in yet I will call an get into talk with her an see WHY she wrote that lil note. so I called that day got an app that next wk and went in and talked to her.. I convinced her I was better an that I am looking forward to this life changing step an that I am very excited. she then told me she would be happy to release me..sure enough she did . They just have to touch all bases...an yes eating disorders are a question as well. but It has been some what of a struggle mentally an emotionally the first month. it was brutal. some ppl do great some ppl struggle. I struggled some. as far as the vitamins an etc to buy from him, if its costly I would talk to him an tell him what your prepared to do, I didnt have to do that. I get mine at whole foods or a natural living. But if I was you , I know its hard to get into psychs youll need a referral, call the office an have them refer you to another one, if they dont have another one they use, or if you dont have one you personally see regularly, go to yur primary an have them refer you to one. there might be one closer. if your stuck with the one you already seen I would make another app with them asap an get in there an have along talk an ask why they or he or she said what they did. thats just me. but I would jump on this quickly it takes time to get thru this process. wish you the best..hang in there..it will happen..

    I'm officially a Loser!

CONGRATS!! good to see ur up to keeping us posted. I tried to reply earlier on phone..cant find anything on this forum to reply on it since I updated on phone..so Im on laptop..good to hear ..I am 11 wks out an feel better as the days go! have a good night.
  15. I have no clue if I responded or not..I cant find anything hardly right now! I downloaded the updated version on my phone cant find nothing on it.haha..grrr..I didnt feel nothing in the stomach area you know the part cut off...didnt feel anything! my incisions was a little discomfort but nothing like my hysterectomy I had 18 yrs ago! everyone is differant..the gas bothered up in my chest an shoulders for a few days but the first 24 hrs of it was worst. after that it was manageable. I did however have my hernia repaired and the spasms of the esophagas was the worst! had chest pains after every sip when I was able to sip. I told my surgeon leave me in another day to IV needed fluids since I couldnt drink hardly anything so he left me. those spasms last me a good wk..but eased up at day 7 an then were tolerable for another wk..after that I was fine. not going to lie to ya..for me the first month was brutal to get thru. emotionally, physically an mentally. before the month was over I had a few crying spells. I wanted a hamburger really bad! but I talked myself thru it an the hubs was my support. but let me tell ya I am 11 wks out and I still stand by my decision. next best thing I did for me...Iv done cleaned out closet gave tons of clothes away..down 60 pds...feels amazing you'll see! trust it..follow your protocol an surgeon it works!! keep us posted..
  16. Not to late!!! I don't know your postop protocol but this is what I plan to follow for life..carbs less then 40 daily, protein eat first each meal then low carb vegs, 60 to 70 protein daily, No starches, potatoes, corn, peas, crackers, wheat grains...couscous or quinoa for complex, I'm aloud no more then 10 grms sugar per serving but I'm not...do you use the myfitnesspal on phone? Best thing ever!! Its my best friend! I record everything I want...I read labels..if your not counting carbs, calories etc you can be consuming a lot more then you think..I no I sure was..that's how I ended up fat. I thought I was eating good the past several yrs...you have the tool. You can get back on tract! I don't eat over 700 calories daily,an that's bc I can't consume any more then that in a day. Another tool I use I use ketones sticks..daily..tells me if I'm burning or if I don't burn I no I have had to many carbs..need to adjust. This is what I do. I'm not 2 yrs out an who knows this might be me asking for ideas so hang in there!! You can do it!!!
  17. I bought unflavored whey an I would put a spoonful here n there whether it was in my coffee, tea, soups, flavored water..pudding anything I would add so I stayed hydrated an got protein some go ahead an some wait depends on ur tummy and or surgeon. .that's my tip..what worked for me, the more protein I could get down even if it took me an hr to finish, I sipped on something all the time..just ideas..hang in there..it gets much better!
  18. I agree first month was exhausting drinking an getting my meds in! I had no throwing up but I had the esophagus spasms they were awful. I hardly left the house the first few wks..but when I had my first wk postop visit I was ecstatic! I knew I made the right decision for me! I'm 9 wks out an 60 down! I would totally do it again. I still eat but I'm very selective protein always first..limit carbs to less then 40 daily..protein between 60to 70 ...no processed sugar, breads of any kind, potatoes, rice..etc...still working on my energy but I do take thyroid just redone bw last wk my iron was bit on low side so added it daily..Hang in there newbies! !I really started changing after 3rd wk...things became routine. ..good behavior. Everyone's different. .some start new things right after some take some adjustments with time...Its a process! Stick to your protocol. ..it works!! Gets soooo much better!

    Psych Eval

I called my insurance an told them they missed paying the nutritionist an she said since I was approved an had the surgery They were resubmitting it should have been paid since surgery was approved an these specialist are a requirement for approval.

    Psych Eval

I'm surprised your surgeon doesn't provide all of this in house..bc of everything that is required. Since surgeon doesn't provide how about goin thru your pcp? You definitely need a practitioner that takes insurance. .

    December

I'm 50 an have multiple autoimmune diseases. ..the benefits outweighs the risk! Best decision or should I say one of the best I have made for myself. I had 2 specialist refer me to surgeon. My weight was not going anywhere but up up up! I am 9 wks it An 60 down...its hard first month I'm not going to lie. My surgeon told me if u can make it thru first 4 wks you'll be good..he was right. I struggled a lot..mentally emotionally. .but I worked thru it..I did this for me my health. I didn't tell my family. I have thought about this for 15 yrs..it was time for me to get my life back. So I took control. .maybe u have tried to help them understand this is for your health I'm sure..it's a complete lifestyle change an I would just have to say they can be on board an help an support or well...I'll let you fill that in..lol... hang in there! I wish u the best!! Keep us posted!!
  22. My phase 1 was 48 hrs...went home on phase 2..was on phase 2 for 2 wks..an so on...
  23. I finally was dx hashis. .it's destroying thyroid. I take armour an not Sythroid. I don't no wat u take. I told my Dr no synthetic. .it breaks down different. I just had new bw this wk done..Iv battled with weight since I got out of school back in the 80s. .Its been a struggle. Now it's finally doing it's job..I use Mary shomons thyroid guide numbers to go by for optimon thyroid function. Helps a lot...thought I share

    Why

I follow my protocol an during the liquid phase I drank my shakes,an bought unflavored protein whey added a teaspoon here an there in everything whether it's coffee hot tea, soups..etc..it's a learning phase for sure. I had a hard time to but you'll figure it out. I'm 9 wks out an still learning. After my 4th bite I lay my fork down or spoon an rest a few minutes do something I usually look thru my phone to look busy or something then after a few minutes take another small bite if I'm satisfied I stop an push plate away. I don't keep eating like everyone else..you will learn. I'm sorry if this is vague but I hope it helps. With fluids it's different.
