My diet includes mushie stage 2-3oz meals 3 times per day, no snacking of anykind in between meals, just 80z Protein shake and Water. That is it folks, so I am definately eating less than most here it seems as well. But I do know from all of my classes that this is vitally important for the success of the band. You do not want to eat til you stretch your pouch and you want to get used to this small amount of foos satisfying as well. When that starts to fail is when you need a fill not more food. I am yet to be hungry. I am on full liquids until Monday when I advance to the mushies stage. I am of course looking forward to that pureed food indeed the liquid gets real old real fast. Hope this helps those who have ?.

Hi Molly: I am doing great I think, I went to my local Lap Band Support group last night, my daughter drove me and it was wonderful being able to get up and get out of the house and walk. It was nice to see others who had surgery doing so well. I am very sore today, but I expected to be. I just keep making myself get up and move. I am not at all hungry and I have to tell myself it is time to eat. I have some nausea feelings when I think about eating. I am only drinking Water right now because the Crystal light is way too sweet I am going to have to dilute it alot I can tell. The yogurt is wonderful and I am enjoying my cream Soups as well. The taste is wonderful. But I am seriously not hungry. Having lots of gas with my bowel movements, but just glad it is being passed. I am still swollen and I can feel the swelling in my esohpogus it is like something feels stuck there, even though I have not eaten anything. I was told last night it is the swelling and it will go away. Other than that I am doing great. I see my surgeon again on Thursday morning and hopefull he will release me to go back to work on Monday. Hope you are doing better today, each day it will get better. -
Hey Lady:) Glad to see you are well. I am doing good, I even went to the grocery store with my DH and mom earlier this afternoon and walked around for about 20 minutes and then came back home. Not nearly as sore as I was yesterday and I know the walking is what I need. Not the lying in my chair or in bed. I am real itchy and that has me bothered other than that I am doing alright, I am glad I go to full liquids tomorrow and can have my Protein with milk again. I am so lucky I had a little gas pain in the hospital the first night, but I have had none since I have been home and I am passing the gas either burping or farting...LOL The more I walk the more it passes. I am not eating much either. And I have no hunger at all. Just unjury chicken broth and popsicles and water that is it. Woo Hoo we are on the losing side of banded and I am so happy about it! :whoo:

Has anyone heard from Andie? She had surgery same days as me and I wanted to know how she is doing? I haven't seen any posts from her yet? Longhorn sorry to hear about your incision I hope you get the antibiotics and it helps. I feel very lucky that I don't have any of the gas issues.....yet! I have been able to pass it by belching and farting:) Thank god those never felt so goos as they do now. I just want my tummy to go down it seems swollen....to me:)

Vanessa I think they call that head hunger. I was getting it towards the end of my clear liquid diet before surgery. I think that is when we need to find other things to occupy our time, such as walking or reading or doing needlwork or something to occupy our mind so that we don't think about food. I have not had any hunger pangs or pains for days. I know that will probably not always be the case but I am actually glad that I am not hungry right now. It is easier to manage the diet this way. I am still on Clear liquids until tomorrow when I go to full liquid diet. I get to add milk and that makes me happy. I can actually enjoy the Protein shakes they are just gross mixed with Water. I am itching really bad this morning and I think it is the Liquid pain medication and I am going to switch over to my Adult strength liquid tylenol and see how I do on that. Anyone else have itching afterwards? Someone asked if any complications from my spleen being nicked and no I don't think so, except maybe more discomfort perhaps, they watched my blood count really close at the hospital and it was fine so I don't think I bled all that much from it either. They did not have to transfuse me.. This is one of the side effects that can happen with this surgery and we know that going in. I am not at all upset with my surgeon he is awesome, these things can happen. He took very good care of me and was cautious by making me stay overnight. I am going to my lap band support group meeting tomorrow night, I told my husband that I so need too do this. I think I will be up to it. The hardest part is getting in all the liquid right now. I am sipping constantly in between meals....guess I better get used to that. Other than that I am doing great I think. I am not worried about weightloss at this time, just about healing and making sure my band heals into place.....I know after losing 10 pounds in 5 days that I will do just fine with my new friend!! :clap2: Good luck to those having surgery tomorrow!!

Well I am officially a bandster as of yesterday. I had to stay over in the hospital though because he nicked my spleen. I am doing very well I think although I am very sore. No major pain from gas at all, thank god, I have been able to walk alot and I think I am sore from that. Also am coughing and that is not helping much. I have to say I am not hungry at all. I am thrilled to have this part over and to get on the road to healing. My throat is slightly sore from the tube down my throat. But other than that and my port sight I am not too bad. Hope everyone else is doing well that has been banded already this month and good luck to those still waiting.:clap2::clap2::clap2:

I was to arrive at the hospital @ 7:30am yesterday and they admitted me and I went to the surgery waiting room and then was called to go upstairs to the surgery suit. Our hospital has private pt rooms that you wait in to be taken to surgery. There they administered the heparin shot and started my IV. I waited til 9:30 I was scheduled at 9:20 so not too bad. They wheeled me in to the operating room and I got up on the table and they had me breath some oxygen and then they said I was going to take a siesta and that is all I remember until I woke up in the recovery room. The nurse kept telling me that I needed to breath I guess I kept stopping. She gave me morphine for pain and I heard her tell someone that he had nicked my spleen and that I would be staying overnight for observation. I started feeling nauseated and she gave me something for that and called the floor and said that I would be another half hour to 45 minutes. By the time I got to my room it was 3pm. I got into bed and was really having alot of pain and they gave me more morphine and it made me feel awful and I finally told the nurse that I wanted no more of that stuff and they put me on the liquid vicodin and that was so much better. I slept off and on until about 3am when I wanted to get up, I still had my catheter and it was very uncomfortable but I got up and sat in the recliner next to my bed. I ended up sleeping there for three hours. I finally saw the surgeon on call at 7am and she checked my dressing and said I looked to good to be in the hospital and I told her I felt really good and that I wanted to go home so she said fine and she went to write the orders. I was released at 9:30am and we stopped at the drugstore for my pain medicine. Thank for the person who reminded me to take a pillow for the ride home in the car that was a life saver. I arrived home and my daughter and DH were with me. Soon after that my mom and grandsons came by and that was a treat to get to seem them Adam is going to be 4 in January and Cole was 13 months old today. They are a joy to me. Then my brother and sister-n-law came over as well. I had lots of company most of the afternoon it was really nice. I must admit they ate and I had no problems with watching them eat around me. I have not had any hunger whatso ever. I actually am happy about that right now. I have ben eating my chicken unjury and popsicles and drinking Crystal Light. I feel really good considering all that my body has been through. Andie I hope yours went as well. Vanessa and Longhorn I see that you both are still doing great.!! Good luck to those who are still waiting.:clap2::clap2:

Vanessa you are doing so great,:clap2: I think the fantasies are normal, as anything else you give up it is hard at first, just remember why you are not eating right now and how your stomach is healing, and how you want to protect your band and I bet it will get easier as the days go by. I know about wanting to eat, this clear liquid diet is for the birds, I am excited about Monday when I can actually eat fullliquids...LOL I am getting ready to go to the hospital. So onward to my bandster heaven.... My surgeon says coffee is ok as long as it is decaff but he would not allow it until the full liquid phase I think. -
Vanessa and Longhorn so glad to hear that you both are back at work and doing great!! That is such a positive sign for those of us left to undergo the banding. I am so ready, this working while on clear liquids is so hard I had no idea how hard...LOL I am doing great though. I know I am losing lots of weight I just don;t know how much cause I am not letting myself get on the scale until Friday. I find out tomorrow what time the surgery will be on Friday and I will be back here to post when I can. Keep smiling and loving the band ladies!! I think you both are doing awesome.

I found out on Tuesday that I my EKG came back abnormal and they even went as far as to say I might of had a heart attack at some point. I was absolutel thrown for a loop. I have no symptoms and I have not had any that I am aware of. Now I have to have a stress test tomorrow morning at the hospital:faint:. I am seeing my surgeon today for my last visit before surgery. So we will see where this goes. They told me they get these all the time that say abnormal and nothing is wrong. So I am keeping my fingers crossed and saying prayers. They have not postponed anything yet so we will see. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE who is having surgery today!!!:clap2:

Yeah the liquid phase is no fun at all!! I am on Clear Liquids for 5 days before and 3 days after then move to Full Liquids for another 2weeks then soft or mushies as some call it for 2 more weeks then on to regular diet!! I do not have a time yet 4 my surgery I won't get that til Thursday. I am in the central time zone I am in Illinois. I will also be thinking about you and wishing you all the best and will be gald to get back here and let everyone know how it went and that we are ok!! Only a few more hours til they tie the knot...LOL -
We have a clothing swap at the monthly support group here in Peoria. Everyone brings in the clothes that they have outgrown and can pick out new ones in the size they currently are. It is really nice because in some cases you are changing sizes so quickly no one can afford that. I am giving mine away, I want them all out of my sight. I am bound and determined this is going to work and I will not see size 26 ever again. LOL Longhorn been there with you and done all of that. I know how you feel about it, but this will truly be the answer you have been searching for I am just sure of it.

Hi Andie:) I too was overwhelmed the past couple of days when I have tried to get on the site and it was down. I have begun to really depend on the things I get from this site. All the very nice and understanding and supportive people, help in between my support groups here at home. I am anxious and getting nervous, but this Clear liquid diet is killing me....LOL I am so sick of Jello and broth I will never want to see either again... How are you doing and what are you doing to pass the time? I am working clear up til the day of surgery so I have plenty to keep me busy. -
My DR allows return to exercise one week after surgery to include only walking, and he means walking.....he wants me up and moving. But no lifting or anything strenuious.
-
WOO HOO I was cleared yesterday 4 surgery, my heart is excellent and everything else looks great!! I am finishing day three of clear liquids and it is truly no fun.......I am so sick of broth and Jello and I hate jello to begin with,.......LOL Friday cannot come quickly enough for me....it seems like I have been waiting so long. I am having diarreah on this diet though, and that also sucks big time since I am still working.....LOL I will work clear up til surgery. How is everyone doing that has already been banded this month? Longhorn, Vanessa? you guys doing alright?
-
My husband and I joined a health club the end of August and I have been walking laps in the lazy river there and also doing Water Aerobics classes. I developed an allergy three weeks ago to the chlorine and I was banned from the pool til after my surgery. I am so anxious to get back in the water. I will do lots of walking as my excersie of choice. But I love doing it in the water it is like weightlessness until you get out of the water....LOL

I ordered my unjury this morning from the website. I have some in packets already but wanted to get the large bottles. From everything I have read it is the best 20 grms in once scoop and that is without adding it to a high Protein food. Part of your bloating I am sure was the gas that they used to blow up your abdomen for the surgery and the swelling as well that will go down in 3 to 4 days after surgery most likely. Keep on the road to recovery.......!!
-
Longhorn I too have a strict schedule.....my Dr requires 8 days of Clear Liquids 5 before surg 3 after and then on 2 full liquids for 3 weeks then mushies or soft for 3 weeks then try regular food bit by bit introducing only new things one a day. So it is 2 allow our stomachs time to heal before they begin being hit with regular solid meals. Everything that I have read including from the National Lap Band site states this is good practice. So I am following strictly this procedure so that my stomach can heal and not get stretched...!

Vanessa Really cleaning your house sweeite...I think not!!! Be careful you do not want to pull anything loose..... Remember you had major surgery, even though you don't have a huge insicion. Wow I can only hope to feel as good as you both are. Longhorn you are using slimfast? Wow lucky, I have to have Clear liquids 4 three days after surgery before I start full liquids...:cry I don't get gas on my Slimfast Hhigh Protein. I ran some errands this morning and picked up some last little things that I will need and I think I should be ready, getting through the next five days with working for 4 of them will be the true test. Keep up the good work ladies!!
-
Yes it sure was a relief, I still have to wait to see my internal medicine Doc on Monday for the green light so I am still nervous until I her the ok from him...LOL But I start my clear liquids tomorrow, and I am most definately ready.....to get this show on the road. Thanks for the kinds words, HOw are you feeling Vanessa? Longhorn are you still feeling bloated? I know that they say the 3rd day after any surgery is always the worst, so hopefully it won't be too bad.......you are definately in my prayers you two!
-
I had the stress test this morning and I passed!!! The cardiologist said that my EKG was normal. I am so releaved. I am ready to get this show on the road. Andie I would love to keep in touch and follow each other as we get through this. It is so wonderful to see people starting to get their surgeries done and Nov Bandsters moving right along. We have all waited for so long for this. :clap2:

Kristin1031 replied to Pattypoo1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Patty: So glad to hear you are done and on the road to recovery!! Only 7 more days for me... I am anioxus to get it done and over with. I am not lookoing forward to my clear liquid 4 8 days straight... Keep walking and drink plenty of fluids and your Protein for the energy, you will feel great in no time. -
So glad to hear that you are both doing reasonably well, in fact you both sound great:) I am glad it is all done for you and that you both are home and on the road to recovery. It is great to hear someone doing so well afterwards, since I am out patient I wanted to hear the good stories...LOL I saw the surgeon today and he said that my abnormal EKG was most likely due to lead placement being off and not to worry. I should ace my stress test in the am he said.....Hope he is right:) Good Luck Ladies and hope to talk with you later when you both are not so sleepy!!
