Do any of you think I would be able to drive at 9 or 10 days post-op? I'm in the process of planning surgery in Mexico as well as summer college courses that I have to take asap. So I'm also trying to decide if I can swing both.

BlondBomb, Liquid Cinnamon Bark Herb- Where do you get this? Do you have a brand name you can share or a link to where I can find it? I've never heard of it and would be interested in checking it out. Thank you for all the new replies! I really appreciate it!!

Thank you both for your replies. I too have really bad GERD. When the hernia was found I started to have hopes I could do the sleeve and be fine afterwards once it was repaired. So that is why I am asking everyone for their story. Thank you again!!

Summer Rain did you have any reflux prior to surgery?

I had the same results. I have GERD and I'm hoping to hear people say once their hernia was repaired the GERD did not return. Hopefully it's not wishful thinking.

I notice the activity on this board is almost non-existent. Is there a reason for that? Should I not be considering RNY Gastric Bypass in Mexico?

For all the veteran's who've had RNY Gastric Bypass I would like to ask you if you find yourself hungry at all once you adjusted to your new life? With the sleeve one of the side effects is lack of hunger because of the reduction in the Grehlin hormone, is it the same with the RNY? Thank you, S.

I find myself wondering if it's fine to use V-8 juice as your source of getting in all of your vegetables or is it a complete no-no? Would it be okay once in awhile, all the time, or never? If not V-8 juice then how about homemade vegetable juice? Just curious what everyone thinks about this topic and/or what your doctors have said about it. Thank You, S.

Could someone please explain to me if the procedures are essentially the same why does the MGB have bile backwash (GERD) and the RNY does not?

Thank you everyone for the continued feedback.

WOW!! Incredible Brians147! Did you go thru the BariatricPals deal? If so we're you pleased with everything? And what are your thoughts on Dr. Ponce DeLeon and his staff? Thanks for the information.

Sorry I didn't mean to hi-jack your thread Okiebon. I did find this on hunger and the gastric bypass though if you-re interested: The RYGB is restrictive and malabsorptive and it affects your appetite hormones. Restrictive: Right after surgery, the top portion can hold only about one ounce, or two tablespoons, of food. This forces you to have smaller meals you fill up faster Malabsorptive: With RYGB, food doesn't go into your duodenum, which is where a lot of nutrient absorption usually occurs. Absorbing less Protein, fat and carbohydrate leads to fewer calories and faster weight loss. Hormonal:1 2 changes in your hormones after RYGB can decrease hunger. Ghrelin: a hormone that causes hunger and whose levels decrease after RYGB PYY: (neuropeptide YY) a hormone that reduces hunger and whose levels increase after RYGB GLP-1: (glucagon-like peptide 1) a hormone that reduces hunger and whose levels increase after RYGB

I have finally decided on the RNY because I already have GERD pretty bad and I honestly would love to be rid of it. You raised a good question that I will have to ask veteran bypassers about the hunger issue. I'll let you know what I find out.

GERD . . . Which Weight Loss surgery is best option?
sh1211 posted a topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
I originally wanted the gastric sleeve, but recently I keep seeing people who have GERD either have the gastric bypass or have a revision to the gastric bypass. So now it has got me wondering if the gastric sleeve is not the right way to go for me. I do not want to have surgery again later because the GERD is worse than it is now. So I was hoping people will chime in on this issue. Which surgery is the best option for someone who has GERD? It can get pretty bad if I'm not careful in what I eat, how much I eat, etc. I've been woken up at night from the reflux coming all the way up... so not fun. Is the mini gastric bypass an option? When I look at photos it seems like it is a combination of the gastric sleeve surgery and the gastric bypass surgeries. Please tell me your stories. -

I live in Benson. May I ask you about your experience in Tijuana? Who was your surgeon? What facility did you go to? Did it go smoothly? And do you see your regular doctor for aftercare or did you have to go to someone new? Did you even talk to your regular doctor about it before going down for the surgery? I don't know who to go to or what to do about physician aftercare once I return home. Did you end up finding a weight loss buddy?
