No worries. you will get approved. and i was told by my surgery coordinator that Aetna only requires 3 year medical history even though i think they say differently on their website. so your husband may not have anything to worry about. let me know how everything goes and I will say a prayer for the both of you. God is good, just keep the faith and he will take care of everything else.

I feel like such a fool! Warning this post contains a "break-up" email*

Honey, i know somewhat about what you are going through. my co-workers and one of my freinds whose has had gastric bypass 4 years ago all turned on me and treated me like dirt when they heard i was approved for the surgery. i think it is alot to do with jealousy. there are alot of people out there that pretend they want others to be happy and will be supportive about choices they make until they make them. and the one friend that had the bypass of mine, the last time i talked to her she was joking on fat people and saying very rude things and warning me about the surgery and saying bad things about the lapband. that was 3 months ago, she has called about 10 times since i has left 10 messages on my machine because i am done with her. i hope this surgery does nto make me that Shallow. -
I have Aetna PPO and was approved for the lapband surgery within 48 hours. my bmi is 48, 30 years old. i had 5 years history of obesity, psy eval, 6 month well documented diet( be sure the diet included a low calorie diet, diet pill tried even if you don't get them filled and ask your doctor to put in the diet that you have been advised about behavior modification and counseled on nutrition. i also have mild sleep apnea. good luck everyone. and yes, i have heard that Aetna sucks but they were very nice to me and very quick. not sure why except that i had everything that wanted.

one more thing, make sure your diet says that you have tried diet pills. Aetna ask for that documentation to be in the 6 month diet also. even if you don't get them filled, ask your doctor to put you on some and make sure he documents it!

I have Aetna PPO and it took them 2 days to approve me. i had the psy eval, 6 month diet with notes about nutrition and being on a low calorie diet and that i was advised by my PCP about behavior modification. THIS IS IMPORTANT TO INCLUDE IN YOUR 6 MONTH DIET WITH AETNA!. i did have 5 years medical history of obesity and sleep apnea test. and a letter from my pcp saying that i needed the surgery and that he felt it would benefit me. Aetna was very nice and i had no issues. just remember to ask your doctor to include all that stuff in the diet because that is the main reason they will deny you. Good luck and God bless. i have my surgery Nov 30th. 2007. my BMI is 48. 30 years old.

Welcome. so again, has anyone here had lapband done through Cahaba Valley Surgical Center? they are in Alabaster. my surgeon is Dr. Vincent Gardner. just want some feedback on him. like was he a good surgeon , did you seem to care about your well being, did he give pain meds after. stuff like that. i got the impression that he is a good Christian man and i liked him but just want others who have used him opinions. thanks. my surgery date is November 30th. VERY EXCITED AND VERY, VERY SCARED!!!!!!!!!!

so, i was approved by Aetna to have the lapband surgery. spent alot of money out of pocket, drove 100 miles to surgeon, did everything on the list. so, i get a call from the surgery coordinator . i am thinking she is going to give me my Pre Op appt. WRONG. she told me that the surgeon may refuse to do my surgery because AETNA is not paying him enough. can you believe that? He is actually thinking of backing out on me for 1200.00. that is what the difference is in his standard pay for the surgery and what Aetna will pay him. i will know something tomorrow. has anyone ever heard of such a thing? please reply....... thanks.....:help:

so, i think i have learned a lesson trial by error. i found a surgeon, i knew that lap band was covered by my insurance carrier, AETNA ppo. but what i didn't know is that the surgeon was not in my network. so, now i am waiting for the insurance company to approve a referell i had to submit asking that they treat him like he is a network provider and allow me to choose him to do the surgery. anyone had this happen? any help would be appreciated. just stressed. :whoo::help:
