I am down 56lbs so far and down 4 dress sizes. It's only been with this last 10lbs that I've been having the most lovely compliments about how I'm looking and how healthy and happy I look!! Needless to say, this is boosting my zero confident some what!! Thank you gastric band as I feel like I am regaining my life back!! I have more energy, I am happy, motivated and making lovely friends. My husband looks at me like I am the most gorgeous thing on earth again!!! Happy happy happy!! Probably about 40lbs to go to my target weight but slowly but surely getting there! If I had any doubts along the way, I certainly don't have now. Good luck to all of you just post op with your incredible journey ahead xx

Vomiting and chest pains.
messagetosiobhan replied to messagetosiobhan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks. I'm a nurse so I had an ECG done at work and it's fine so it's probably stress related! The vomiting stopped after about 4 hours but I've not been able to keep anything really solid down now since this. Just softer foods! I'm not sure if something has happened? I had a fill at the very beginning of December and I was doing ok but I could really feel the difference even though it was only a small amount!! -
For the last few days I've been having pains in the chest intermittently and even woke in the night with it (never suffered with heart burn before so I thought it was this) and tonight I stupidly had a little home made pizza with the kids (first time since the band inserted) and now I can't stop vomiting and the pains are so bad. Not sure if it's just heart burn and maybe something is stuck or what!!!

I started my weightloss journey on the 1st July 2014 at 104kg and I am currently 89kg. I must say up until the most recent fill (2 days ago) I was stArting to think the band wasn't going to be very successful as I was still able to eat a lot of food and quite often finding myself hungry and wanting to munch!! Just had my 2nd fill and I have now got 6mls in my band. 2 days of liquids and just starting to eat soft foods today. I can already feel a big difference as I've not felt hungry at all and even such a small amount has kept me feeling really full. I'm hoping that this lasts!! I am finding even before my last fill that I'm bringing a bit back up again. Clearly I'm still having trouble with knowing when enough is enough and not chewing enough. Does it get easier? Does it become the norm?

You look amazing! You have done so well!!! We don't have any support groups here that I know of. I seem to do a little better now, I'm certainly changing my opinion on food. It was always such a treat and I looked forward to eating anything and everything! Now I see it as challenging and I only think about it when I really have to eat. It's such a different relationship with food now and I'm down another 3kg since my 2nd fill recently! Chew chew chew is the key!! And to take small amounts and wait for a bit in between! Being sick is not quite so often anymore. -
Hi, I was adjusted 8 days ago by another 2 mls to make a total of 6 mls in my band that can take up to 9mls. I first thought it was just the swelling and it would ease. I'm only managing tiny amounts and then I feel disgusting and full and uncomfortable. (Not even 5mouthfuls at times for this to happen) and I find I can't eat in the morning and I can't eat later than 4pm without being sick as it's stuck. This is only my 2nd adjustment I've had as I was only banded at the beginning of July this year. Any thoughts? Could it still be the swelling?

Good luck!! It has settled down a lot now but I'm realising a lot of what the problems were, were due to me not chewing enough and eating far far too quickly! I am really not seeing food in such a positive light anymore as it's always a bit of a challenge to keep things down and end up throwing up most days. my appetite had decreased greatly though! No more snacking at all. I keep meaning to ring my dr and ask their opinion (if I'm too tight or not) but I keep thinking it'll be ok and I must be in the green zone or something? -
I am drinking well, slowly as I am sure I can feel it pooling before it drains. But it's really put me off eating as I don't want to keep bringing stuff up! I had 2.5mls in at the time of surgery. I think the surgeon put a reasonable amount in this time because my portions were bigger to keep me full. But it's gone pretty full circle! I literally have to move around after a little bit of food to move things around!

Thanks for the advice! Well the weight has certainly been coming off these last few days after my 2nd fill. However, lunch is the only meal I'm really able to eat more than a few bites and that's only I think because it's a stew and really soft already! Drinking is not a problem either, just a bit slower. Breakfast and dinner seem to be a bit difficult but as I'm only 6 days post adjustment I'm just wondering if it still maybe the swelling from it still and that it may calm down? I know that if it's too tight I wouldn't be able to eat anything or drink anything without it coming up so I'm not sure what the deal is! -

Thanks so much for the replies! Well, so far after this 2nd adjustment I can hardly eat! It all feels so difficult to get down. My portion size is less than half a tea plate and I can't even manage that. Trying to eat breakfast isn't easy. I give up after 1 mouthful. I'm hoping things will loosen up a little bit as I am hardly eating anything at all! Feels like it gets stuck! Certainly starting to lose weight now!!! -
I wasn't expecting any pain the day after my first fill. My stomach around the port and pretty much all over my abdomen is cramping and really painful. I'm able to swallow liquids which is good. Is this pain normal?

First fill today and words of advice would be appreciated

I'm so nervous, this is my first appointment since the surgery on the 1st July 2014 and this will be for my band fill too!! They only put an empty band in during surgery so I'm feeling anxious about how it's going to be afterwards! Since the 3rd week post surgery my appetite has been big and I've eaten a fair amount! I'm feeling like a bit of a failure to be honest as I went abroad with my husband, kids and parents (my parents don't know I've had this surgery and wouldn't understand either) and I pretty much ate as I always did before but in smaller portions this time which is not good. I'm hoping that after this fill my appetite will decrease and I can start as I mean to go on and since I got back from holidays on Tuesday I've been eating a lot better. I've lost only 10kg to bring me to 91kg since pre op so I'm hoping to really notice the difference after today. Any words of encouragement or advice would be really appreciated, thanks x -

It went ok thanks. Very nervous going in there but i forgot to ask how much he put in to the band! It didn't hurt which was surprising! I could feel when I drank the water that there was a bit if constriction. He says if I don't feel after 10-15 days enough constriction he may see me again but if all ok, he will do another fill in about 6 weeks time. -

Thanks, I think I kinda knew that it wasn't going to be instant from what everyone else has said on other posts. I'm just hoping it does something! But now I'm back from my holidays I'm eating much better and a lot less so hopefully that'll help until the 'green zone' is achieved!! My appointment is in an hours time so I'm getting super nervous now but can't wait!! -
Removing the dressings off the wounds
messagetosiobhan replied to messagetosiobhan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I thought it might have been! I think I can feel the ridge of it too! Although I won't be investigating it too much as I feel a bit giddy when I think of what's inside my body now -
Hi, I'm day 10 post lap band surgery. I was told to take off my dressings today which I have done. However, I have steri-strips over each of the wounds. I'm sure I remember in my post anaesthetic state the surgeon saying he used dissolvable sutures! Do you think I should try taking the steri-strips off as well or leave them on until they fall off?

Thanks everyone! I left them be and by this morning they have all come off by showering etc! 4 out of the 5 wounds look amazing but the one which I'm guessing the port is in and they put the band through is a bit bigger and very bruised! Feeling so great today! So glad I have made this decision and I'm at the end of the recovery part now at nearly 3 weeks post op. Managing very small portions but 3 times per day and drinking as much as I can tolerate! Band fill is due on the 6th august!! X -
Recovery is going well. When I woke up in recovery they were amazing at treating the nausea and pain and to be honest I was so sleepy I don't remember the pain now at all from it. The next morning, I was only allowed sips of water and had iv fluids and iv paracetamol going. I was discharged and on way home by 10:30! Lots of walking has taken place in the last few days! Even managed to get to the supermarket with my husband and kids! Recovery is going extremely well and each day I wake up in feel better and better. Word of advice: get lots of big fluffy pillows to keep you propped up at night for those first few nights! It's so amazing how a good night sleep helps!!!

Hi all, I was banded on the 1st July! So day 6 post op. Best thing I ever did so far! On liquid diet still and not much hunger at all. How is everyone getting on with their pre op diet? I had to do mine for 10 days prior to surgery xx
-
HI guys, I'm new to this forum and am very nervous as I am having the band fitted tomorrow! I've been on the pre op diet for 10 days which I've found quite challenging-only due to the fat I wanted to enjoy all the foods I enjoyed for the last time!! Any support and advice would be very appreciated! Thanks xx

I'm having the Gastric band tomorrow!
messagetosiobhan replied to messagetosiobhan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Day 5 today and feeling good. A little pain inside and around the wound still and unbelievable amount of heart burn (I think) whenever I drink anything at all. But mobilising well and getting back to normal life again! -
Feeling incredibly sore today but my surgery was delayed until 6pm yesterday so not quite 24 hours in! No sickness or gas to note just feeling very uncomfortable! Very bumpy journey home but once in my bed I had a little snooze and now awake waiting for my husband and 2 sons to come home. I haven't had too much to drink today as feeling so nervous on how much is too much etc.... But my mouth Is so dry and must keep sipping. I think today I'll just stick with water and maybe try some soup or something tomorrow.
