HotLikeHer replied to Lisa*in*NJ's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I called and talked to my Insurance-Empire BCBS and the lady I talked to was awesome, she had the RNY 14 months ago, and went from a 22 to a "4". and she said she was on the horizon BCBS also. She was so nice and tried to help me with what I needed to have Dr submit etc.... I am just starting this to. I go for my Psych eval tomorrow.. -
looks cool to me, thanks

Aww hunny, I am sorry you are going through this... I also am pre band. Try showing your husband all the before and after pics, and tell them these people were just like you, yo-yo dieting, that this is a tool to help you eat less, and if you over eat you will be in pain. etc. Go to a seminar and have him go with you. It is easy for them to doubt, like the boy who cried wolf. But try talking to him, if your relationship is open enough, and let him know that for the first time you see the light at the end of the tunnel. Like there is hope for the first time to start living your life-healthier. And that you want to try and get this done now rather than another 100 lbs from now, and while you are healthy enough to get it done now and might now be later. Go to a Psychologist that has bariatric surgery experience and talk with them. Dont let those that doubt you bring you down or change your mind.... If you know you can do it, Then GO FOR IT!!!!!!!!!. Whats to lose? just some of you-that isnt you... Only you can ruin what the band can do for you.. But as your husband tell him you need his support in this that it is important to you and your health, and you dont want to regret not doing it. Or him regret not supporting you if something happens and you die from Obesity related health problems....cuz you didnt get this done..... Good luck......

Hey congrats on the victory there and keep it up!!!!!!!!!OR down,,,lol

Sounds like extra money to me.... like well you are going to break your leg anyways so we will just put a cast on it now... My surgeon will not do that unless there are sever issues with the persons gallbladder. He said there is to much risk of infection from the bile in the gall bladder and tried to avoid it at all risks, if an infection gets in there then you can get erosion or other problems. I wouldnt get it taken out personally. There are no laws that say you have to have your gall bladder out with the band. Yes many more women than men have issues with the rapid weight loss and stones, but it was normally done with the By-pass- my understanding. Also many women get gallstones when they are pregnant, but it isnt required to come out to get prego... Not meaning to sound harsh or sarcastic, just dont quite get the DR's "preventative medicine" Seems not quite right to me.....

With all due respect,, I am not a Vet, but I worked as a vet tech for quite some time and also with a trainer that used to train our sheriffs dpt dogs. I own 2 great danes and work with great dane breeders and show-ers. The dog needs to be evaluated by a behaviourist (sp). It is never never ok for a dog to bite a person like that. She could very much be an Alpha Bit#h dog, but people are always alpha over the dog. I know you love the dog, and are terrified of her in ways and she knows it, and uses that to its advantage. You are afraid of what she might do to a kid.. Accidents happen, and it might end up being impossible to keep the dog and 3 yr old apart every second. Dogs are fast little buggers, and sneaky smart. Imagine how you would feel if that dog gets ahold of the kid and mangles its face for life or kills it... You would hate yourself a whole lot longer than you would by putting it to sleep. The dog may just not be right in the head also, and so if by putting it to sleep you may be helping it out of its misery... Kind of like when a person has depression, they just dont know why and hate that they cant control their own thoughts. In some way the dog may have the same type of situation that it cant help its behaviour. But have it evaluated by a specialist, not just a regular obedience trainer, and be ready for the worst which may actually be the best for you and the dog,, by putting it to sleep. Rehoming it still leaves you with a liability due to serious aggression and biting history already. PTS is a very peacful thing, I hate it and it is tuff, but you can be there while the dog gets sent to Rainbow Bridge, free from any bothers to be a free pup again.... Please have it evaluated,,,, Hope this helps some........

Dr Rehnke is awesome, and his partner Dr Grossbard, I assume by the date and county that is the seminar you are going to.... -

I am going to go to Dr Rehnke. so is my friend. Wanting to have the LapBand,,I have met him and his staff in person, gone through a seminar and orientation with him... He even had us follow him after the orientation to the office and then our hotel so we wouldnt be lost, and then had to go back to the Hospital to do 2 more surgeries... He is in the St Petersburg area, you can go to obesitynomorefl and check things out there. Just add the WWW. and the .Com to that. It is the Palms of Pasadena Hospital website, they have a special are in the Hospital for bariatrics. There is also a message board there too... Jenn -
Dr rehnkes office numbs the skin with a spray first, is what they said.. So I'm not worried to much there, but maybe cuz I dont have my band yet.....

What is EMLA, where can people get it?
-
Today actually I was telling my 6 yr old about 4th of July -independance day etc.. and she said I know mommy, like when Mrs Starkey takes independence, you know when we are all there... LOL she meant attendance...lol
-
Whoa, I just re read the dates, Honey if you arent ready, plase change the surgery date... and research some more, I dont know your Dr, but in one way this is a BIG RED FLAG, to run, this is a life altering experience, and he shouldnt give it to you just like that, People are supposed to have a Psych eval to see if they are ready or can handle this etc. Handle the changes that will happen etc.. Please do more checking into this and your Dr....... Jenn

Hmmm, tuff one for you.. My friend is 5'3" and 229. She is getting the lap band done also, provided all goes well with her 2nd mortgage. But since her surgery date got moved to a later date, now she is starting to rationalize why not to get teh surgery done. Asking if she can do it on her own w/out the lap band-even though she has tried and tried again. Also she says that 17K is a lot to spend on herself and it could be used for the family instead. And maybe she can get it done at some other time in her life.. So I asked her if she means when she is 50 and not 36 and 450 lbs rather than 230. She is at a healthier point to get it done now rather than later and miss out on even more of her life and her kids life by sitting on the couch... Did your Dr have you go to a Psychiatrist or Psychologist that has experience in Weight loss surgery? If not, then I would Cx this appnt and wait to get more research and other things done. As it was put to me, we have to give up our best freind--- food......... Jenn

not super funny, but my friends 10 year old girl came up and asked her--- "Mommy if you are getting the lap-band on your tummy and it make your tummy smaller- what about your but and legs? Why would you only want your tummy smaller,, She just didnt get it, about the losing weight and then the rest will kind of follow....

Man oh man,,, My friend just had a gastric bypass by Dr Leiberman. She is just "OK" with him.. I have been doing lots and lots of reading on the lap band, and only 1 website even mentioned his name. My friend that is checking into the lapband called down there and left 3 messages over 2 days, no one called back, on the 3rd day, she actually got to talk to a person, and they told her he didnt do lap bands. Then later is when we found his name on 1 website- that was it. So we called back a few more times, finally got a person and they said well yes he does them, and has been doing them for a long time, but the person that knows anything about them isnt here today. So she had to leave a message. Later that day the office called back. They were arrogant to her. they charged close to 20K for the lap band and the fills are not included and varied in price. No clear explanation. So even though this guy is only 45 mons away from me- no way on God's Green Earth am I goin to go to him. Each and every time I have called Dr Rehnkes office, I have spoken to a real person and if it was something that person did not know, someone called me back that same day. 1st impressions are by the office staff and Dr Liebermans office totally needs to learn how to treat people better there. Even my friend that had the Gastric bypass doesnt like how she is treated, but was so desperate to get this done. However she cannot eat any meats whatsoever, and is constantly throwing up so now they said to her somehting is wrong and they have to go back in... She has lost almost 70 lbs in 2 1/2 months. Good and bad........
