Calling all July losers!!!! :-) :-) Wanted to reach out and check in to see how everyone is doing. I know several of us are finally coming out of the initial aches and pains of the surgery, so I was interested in any updates you want to share! Losses, victories, stalls, anything...the floor's open!

@@mamie60 and @@pik - hey!!!! I am doing well! My eating is faaaar from where it should be, so I need to get better with that. I've also lost focus on keeping up with my Vitamins and other supplements. I think I got to a point where I spend so much time thinking about what to eat, when to eat, how much to eat, what pill to take a what time, blah blah blah. I'm due to see my doctor and nutritionist later today for my follow up, and I fully expect to get scolded for my behavior. Mentally, it's been a bit tough because there are so many stressful things that have happened in the last 60 days - it's truly shown me how much of my eating is mental. Luckily, I still can only eat about 1/2-3/4 cup at any one sitting, and I try to keep myself moving so I don't have enough time to think about all the crap going on. I hit my 60 pounds down mark today and am glad about that. I'm sure it could have been more had my eating and intake been better, but I'm happy with where I am. I've also noticed that the faster I lose, the more I look like a melted candle - not cute! LOL Physically - I feel fabulous! Lots of energy and have been doing more walking than I used to - another happy point. So for now, I'm good. Hopeful to when things can settle down and some of the stress ease up :-)

I'm so disappointed in myself. Every single month I fail miserably when it comes to that 'time' of the month. I download more carbs than iTunes downloads music! I still eat in small portions but I crave them terribly and can't seem to get it under control. I'm still losing, but I know if I don't get this resolved, having 75% of my stomach removed will have been done for nothing. Any suggestions?

Awesome! Congratulations! If anyone deserves an accomplishment, it's definitely you! ????????????

Anybody have surgery with Dr. Davis at Emory midtown?
-
Hi! I'm about 20 mins outside of Atlanta in Covington. Had surgery on July 8th
-
I am so glad you shared that. I thought I was going nuts because I have absolutely NO interest in eating. I'm good on fluids but as far as eating, I know I'm not getting the calories that I should. I can't even begin to get down the amounts that my NUT has outlined so I'm not sure what to do. I guess I need to reach out to her for some guidance.

Just checking in to see how everyone is doing. It's great to read everyone's highs and lows and what's working for them. We have a few that have really had a tough time of it, and it's nice to see the support from the group encouraging them along. I've FINALLY broken through that first stall and have resumed losing again - thought it would never happen. I learned today that broccoli is not my friend, no matter how soft I cook it. Guess that's a pre-op food that I won't get to enjoy anymore. Not that it's anything to be proud of, but I had two jelly Beans today - and I think I saw angels float across the room! Those little ditties tasted like gold!!!! I certainly won't make it a habit, but I needed something small and easy to conceal to kill a sweet craving I was having during a training session at work, and they fit the bill! Hope everyone is continuing to enjoy this journey!

Is it just me, or has anyone one else noticed a significant change in your PMS symptoms? I am much more of a crabby Patty than before and the sweet/salt cravings are 1000 times worse.
-
So true terry1118. Food getting stuck is the worst!!!! I am full food now but after the one incident I had with a piece of carrot getting stuck, it damn near sent me back to purées! Do you meet with a nutritionist yet? They may have some suggestions for you.
-
@@pik NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I check the page every few days specifically to see how you're doing. I am so sorry this is still not resolving. You have had such an uphill battle with recovering. Have you considered a second opinion or having another doctor review your case? If not, ask your doc what he/she believes is a 'normal' estimated timeframe that you should start feeling better. That will at least give you something to shoot for and gives your doc a soft timeline as well. I'll keep checking in on you. GET WELL'ER' SOON!!!!! :-) :-) :-)

I had lapro RNY this past Tuesday and am still very sore and using my pain meds. I'm looking to hear how others' recovery is coming along that had the same surgery within the last 7-10 days.

my first experience with dumping.
Angel❤️ replied to jtickle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yesterday was my first experience with something getting stuck. It was one of the worst feelings EVER!!! I felt like I had swollen a bowling ball covered in shrapnel and NOTHING was getting past it. I too thought I was going to have to call 911 for fear I was having a heart attack. Lol Luckily, after vomiting every 10 mins for about two hours, it moved. I'm half tempted to live on purées and shakes for the rest of my life so I never have to experience that again!!!!! -
RNY - how are you feeling?
Angel❤️ replied to Angel❤️'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I struggled with constipation and took two tiny laxative pills that I got from the dollar store (their version of dulcolax) and it solved it overnight. Tiny bit of cramping, but well worth it because it solved it and I haven't had an issue since. I've also since been eating regular foods, including more veggies, so I'm sure that's helped as well. -
Yes, my doc took mine at each appt - but guess who was too goofy to ask for them? I'll have to send them a note to get them so I can keep track of that as well. Especially since I've GAINED a pound in the last two weeks. Ugh. I need all the positive stuff I can get!

I don't think throwing up intentionally is the answer. It's probably going to lead you to a place you'd rather not go AND may end up stretching your pouch way out, defeating the purpose for having the surgery in the first place (not to mention what repeated vomiting can do to your tooth enamel) If I find I'm eating too quickly, I stop and wait it out. I will usually get a pain that signals to me that I better not put another bite in my mouth. If you're not paying attention to those signals, you may want to take the other posting suggestion and let eating be the only thing you do at one time, focus on how you feel 10-15 mins in, and then continue with small, well chewed bites. You also may want to take it back to basics - Kraft Mac n cheese isn't really a nutrient rich food and may pack on pounds with the high fat/carb content. Just my two cents. Good luck!

How about your jewelry (rings) after surgery?
Angel❤️ replied to pik's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey @@pik! Call me crazy, but THAT RING IS FRIGGIN GORGEOUS and I'd have it somewhere in a safe or safety deposit box until I got married!!! LOLOLOL I think you said it's a year or so out, so that little bundle o' joy would be sized one time only - when I was ready to walk down the aisle. That's an awesome NSV to look forward to and losing a little wear time now to preserve the integrity and have to only have it sized once, would be well worth the sacrifice. I'd buy a cheaper 'transition' ring for now. That's just my two cents. By the way, did I mention that your ring is FRIGGIN GORGEOUS?!?!?!?!? :-) -
@@pik - hey! We're around the same date and I still have dizziness as well. I'm sure much of it is your body still being on the rebound. I'd run it past your doc but my guess is you'll feel less of it as you get in more foods/liquids/calories. Hopefully, you're feeling a tiny but better each day or every few days.
-
Thanks for the suggestions - I had a post on here asking about not getting enough calories and that might be my issue. I typically have 400-500 calories a day and if I walk, I lose about 170 of those calories. I do get in a lot of water and about 80-90g of protein a day, so maybe it's the caloric intake. Having said that, for dinner I forced myself to eat 2oz of salmon, 2 tbls of rice and 2 tbls of veggies and it took me every bit of 50 mins to get it down. That's the largest meal I've had since surgery. According to my meal plan I'm supposed to have 6 tbls of applesauce right now but I can't even begin to try to put another bite in my mouth.

I'm starting to wonder why the hell I had this surgery. I'm 4 weeks post op and my loss has slowed to an almost non-existent crawl. Week one lost 3.6 Week two lost 5.6 Week three lost 2.8 Week four lost .8 (yep, that's POINT 8!!) What gives? These are numbers people lose all the time without having been cut every way to Sunday!! I lost more weight in my pre-op process and that was only 8 weeks. After getting off the treadmill today, I called my husband, fussed about this whole blasted process and told him I was going to get my shower then go get me a whopper with cheese!!! Uuugh! :-{ (I'm not crazy enough to do the whopper but I sure as hell am frustrated enough!!!)
-
Hun what procedure did you have RNY 7/8/14
-
Started pre-op diet today for procedure on the 8th. Anyone in the same boat?
-
@@pik I know you are just sick and tired of the hospital at this point. You have had the toughest time, I believe, of all the stories I've read recently. I'm so sorry. I think I'd be regretting everything too, but hopefully they will get you well FOR GOOD and back on the healing path. I'm sure it's hard but try to think positive that at some point you WILL enjoy the weight loss and all of this other stuff will be behind you. Prayers for a speedy recovery. :-)

Does anyone who had RNY early July mind sharing what your activity level is at this point? What do you do for exercise for a typical day? How long? Do you experience any discomfort with exercise? How much are you eating? I'm curious because I'm not losing much and getting a little frustrated. Not sure if it's my food or activity level or both. Thanks!

RNY - how are you feeling?
Angel❤️ replied to Angel❤️'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just got over this issue yesterday. Maime60 - my surgeon suggested an over the counter laxative that worked beautifully, but some natural stimulants are diluted prune juice or diluted white grape juice. Maybe they will give you some relief. He advised the Colace will just make going easier, but the laxative (dulcolax, milk of magnesia, etc) will get you going 'now'). Good luck because I know it feels awful being constipated.
