Thanks for all of the good wishes. I am doing fine. I have to admit that this surgery didn't leave me nearly as sore as the lapband surgery. I am glad that both surgeries are behind me. I miss lifting my beautiful twin grandbabies.

Do You Still Have Your Gall Bladder?
showboatgirl replied to mslynn's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Gall bladder update. I had mine removed Aug. 9, 2006. I have been having some discomfort and my surgeon said that it would be better to take it out before i got really sick. While he was poking around in there, he checked my band. He said that my band is fine. Glad the surgery is over. -
How is weight loss for people over 50?
showboatgirl replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded Aug. 29, 2005. I have lost about 78 pounds. Everyone tells me that i don't need to lose any more weight. I am happy if I don't lose another pound--but I don't want to gain any. My weight loss has slowed down. But, it sure is great to be wearing a size 12 or medium! I will be 58 in September. -
I Finally found a Protein & Energy Drink I like
showboatgirl replied to cindy032969's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My sister and I had a lot of different products that we had tried. We took two large bags of protein, vitamins, calcium, etc. to our weight loss support group. Most of the people in the group are gastric bypass. They were thrilled to get the different products free. They were like kids on Christmas morning when they went saw our goodies. We tried a lot of different stuff and it was too expensive to throw it away. We got rid of it and it probably helped some people. Needless to say, we were the hit of support group. -
I bought a month supply of nutrisystem from one of the home shopping channels. I tried a few of the meals and I didn't like it at all. Everything tasted the same. Fortunately, they let me return it. Because it is expensive. I think I would use low calorie frozen dinners instead. They are definitely more tasty. Since I have been banded, I can eat anything--just a lot less that I did preband.

It sounds like you are on the right track. You are a beautiful young woman. When you lose 20 to 30 more pounds, you will be gorgeous. Keep on working with your band. It works! -
How aware are you of your port?
showboatgirl replied to justduckie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My port doesn't bother me but I sure know it is there. I notice it the most when I am trying to get comfortable in bed. When I lie on my back, i can really feel it. -
For my 3 meals, I don't count calories--I just try to estimate a cup of food. I do check calorie amounts on foods that I snack on. I try to keep the calories low on my 2 or 3 daily snacks. Counting calories, counting weight watcher points, and counting carbs--that is too much trouble for me! I don't eat until I am full. I just try to think of that cup of food.

I love chocolate too. I use Adora calcium. I order it over the internet. I eat 2 pieces daily. It is a chocolate treat with 60 calories. It provides me with my daily calcium. It come in milk or semi sweet chocolate. It is kind of expensive, but it's worth it.

Isn't it fun when your clothes are too big? Don't spend very much money on new clothes because your new clothes will be too big in the near future.

I had an ultrasound a couple of years ago because I had experienced some discomfort in my chest and back. I do have stones, but have never had a really bad attack. I asked my surgeon if I should have the gall bladder removed before my band surgery. He told me that if it wasn't giving me trouble, that I could go ahead with the band surgery. It has been 11 months since my band surgery. One day last week, I had a heaviness in my chest and discomfort in my back. It felt like indigestion and it lasted most of the day. My son says that gall bladder surgery is a snap compared to a really bad gall bladder attack. I hate being operated on again--but I don't want to wait too long. I see my surgeon for a regular band appointment this week. I think I will ask him about it. If he recommends removing it, I think I will have him do it because he is more familiar with my insides than a local surgeon. I don't want surgery again! Whine!Whine! -
Problems swallowing calcium capsules?!
showboatgirl replied to Stephanie MG's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I order Adora calcium over the internet. It is like a piece of candy. You can get milk chocolate or semi sweet chocolate. There is a small number of calories in each one--but it is worth it. I couldn't stand the gritty chewable calcium or tums. They are sort of expensive, but so was lap band surgery. We're worth it. -
Happy Anniversary!

Omg!!! I Never Thought I Would Make It! Update On Me!
showboatgirl replied to coyotegirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Way to go! Congratulations! -
I went to K Mart today and bought a new bathing suit. It fit perfectly--a size 12! I haven't been in a size 12 for 18 years. I was so happy that I took that little leopard print size 12 home and modeled it for my DH. I have been floating on a cloud. The band works!

That is FANTASTIC!

My sister and I were at K Mart today. They had a lot of sales. We saw the bathing suits and decided that we needed new bathing suits since our weight loss. We tried on a size 14 and a size 12. (last year we wore 1X or 2X) I was thrilled that I could wear a size 12. So I bought that little leopard print size 12 and took it home. I even modeled it for my DH.:clap2: I have been floating on a cloud ever since. I never dreamed that I would be in size 12 again. The last time I wore a size 12 was 18 years ago. What a great feeling! The band works!

Do You Still Have Your Gall Bladder?
showboatgirl replied to mslynn's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I still have mine. I have stones, too. But, I haven't had any attacks, so I will keep mine a while longer. -
I eat lunch at fast food restaurants often. When I eat a sandwich, I only eat half of the bread. My main focus is portion control--no more than a cup. I do make an exception with salad. My dietian told me that I could have a small plate or bowl of salad.

Since lap band is an elective surgery, it is natural to be scared and wonder if you are doing the right thing. If the surgery were a matter of life and death, we wouldn't think twice about it. Lap band is not a matter of life and death, but it is the chance for a better, healthier life. I looked at lapband surgery as an investment in my health. I was banded 08/29/05 and have lost 73 pounds. I am very happy with my band.
