    Is throwing up bad?

ladykate, I think both of these posts have some important information for you. Throwing up is not normal or acceptable according to my surgeon. Plus, I notice that you had your surgery in May 2014? Isn't it too soon to be eating heavy carbs? You might want to call your doctor ASAP. Hoping for the best for you.
  2. Can anyone tell me how to update the weight ticker? I've tried multiple times and can't get it to hold the info. I've lost 46 lbs. and I'm pretty proud of the accomplishment! Thanks! ~Vicki

    Anyone else saying...

Ladies, I can't begin to explain how many times I've read comments about the liquid diet - and they-re never good! However, your new pouch will appreciate it when you can get the liquids down as it's not ready - at least for 3-4 weeks - to take on digesting solid foods. Before my gastric bypass on 6/18, I had been on liquids for 2 weeks to help shrink the liver and stomach prior to surgery. I did wonderfully with the Atkins RTD Advantage Protein shakes, broth and SF popsicles. But, once I had the surgery, I could not stand the taste of the shakes in ANY flavor! Of course, I had purchased 12 packs of various flavors but none of them worked. So, I called my dietician and asked if I could make my own "homemade" Soup. She said "yes" - and here's my recipe. 1 Family size can of Campbell's condensed cream of chicken soup 1 can of Water (or skim or 1% milk if it can be tolerated) 1 package of unjury unflavored Protein powder Mix soup and water or milk together and heat on stove top or in microwave until warm. Add unflavored protein powder. Blend well with whisk so powder is completely blended with liquid. Serve in 1/2 C. servings or whatever measurement that can be tolerated by pouch. (Once protein powder is added to soup, do NOT heat about 140 degrees as it will change the protein.) When I was able to move to the soft foods/mushy stage, I would make the soup, pour 1/2 C. into bowl and add 2 oz. of chicken and 1/4 C. soft cooked carrots to each serving. It was heaven! (When I ran short of chicken breasts that I had cooked in the crockpot, I used a can of chicken from Walmart and it was tasty but a little salty.) Also, I immediately got online and ordered the Jay Robb strawberry whey isolate protein powder and started drinking it with milk once it arrived. I drank it in liquid form and would eat it semi-frozen - yum! Hopefully, this will help get you over the "hump" of the liquid days. Get ready because REAL food is going to taste SO good! Good luck! ~Vicki

Help with the full liquid diet

Hi bugsandpie! Wow, can I truly relate to your statements! From what I experienced and have read, your comments are completely normal for 5 days post op - everything hurts! The overall pain keeps you from wanting to do much of anything but it will help the gas pain if you can walk every 2 hours. You don't have to go far but you do have to keep moving and gently swing your arms. I am now 4 weeks and 2 days post op and it makes ALL the difference in the world. When I was 2 days post op, I told my sister that I had made a "major mistake" and wanted to talk to the doctor about reversal. Fortunately, I didn't and can now say I'm glad I made the decision to have the surgery. By Day 5, I could no longer drink the Protein shakes without throwing them up so I got creative and made me some protein soup, pudding and yogurt! Campbell's condensed cream of chicken soup with Water and an unjury protein package became MY source of protein as I ate it 5 times a day! And my water had to be chilled but not ice cold or room temperature. Most of all, you must remember to take it slow as this was a major operation that you had. Give yourself some time to get adjusted and then try some new things. And don't forget that you have a whole community of friends here at the Bariatric Pal site who will help you. Best wishes . . . and prayers! ~Vicki

    Protein Powders/Supplements

Hi Angel, my surgery was 6/18/2014 and I too wanted to be prepared. So, I sampled MANY shakes and supplements and decided on two: Atkins RTD Advantage shakes and Jay Robb strawberry. Well, a funny thing happened after my surgery - I can't stand the taste of chocolate!! Who would ever have thought it?! So, I'm "making do" with the vanilla or strawberry Akins shakes, the Jay Robb strawberry (blended with water) and some New Direction chicken Soup that I can eat at room temperature. Looking back, I personally don't think that two choices of shakes pre-surgery are sufficient. I would suggest you have 3-4 at home with samples or very small size containers. Sometimes the large economy size is not the best value. But be sure to have someone lined up who can get more Protein for you as you probably won't feel like going to the store. Good luck with your surgery! I'll be watching for your posts! Blessings!
  6. Hey Latido, since I'm only 2 weeks post-surgery, I'm going to refer to the WLS manual for gastric bypass that was given to me. This is what it says: "When planning meal time, STOP drinking any liquids 30 minutes prior to meal and do not resume until 30 minutes past the conclusion of the meal. Meals should last NOT less than 20 minutes and not more than 30 minutes." This is what I use - and I hope it helps you! Blessings!

    Oh, Food Glorious Food!

That sounds marvelous! I will be going to the "mushy" stage tomorrow and will have to remember your special chicken soup recipe. TYFS!

    3 days out of surgery

Wow, it sounds as if you are doing SUPER! My RNY surgery was on 6/18/2014 so I am nine days out. By Day 5, I was gagging from drinking the shakes so, with the NUT's approval, I started on hi-pro Soups and Greek yogurt thinned with part of my shake. I thought I'd made heaven - hahaha! Today, the NUT allowed me to eat non-fat refried Beans thinned with chicken broth - yummy! The beans and the yogurt should have been on the 2 Week food Phase but everything looked so I got early approval. Don't be afraid to ask what you might be able to move up in the food phases. And, ALWAYS check with your NUT before making any changes! Great changes are coming our way - woo hoo!!
