Hi all! I've been reading some of the posted details about long term Vitamin deficiencies and want to be proactive. I don't see my surgeon for several months, and he has been unreliable with vitamin advice (first he said I don't need any, then he said children's gummies twice a day). I'm going to have my primary care physician order blood work. I see the research indicates checking at 3 months out. What is the best practice lab sheet? Also, it's time to reorder Vitamins. I tolerate pills, is there a reason to stay with bariatric chewables? Currently I take Bariatric Advantage chewable, B12 sub-lingual, Nature plus Iron/C chewable, and a Calcium plus chewable. Critiques before I reorder, please? Thanks, Tracy

I hope it was a false positive.

Another vote for LB/Cacique. I walked in there thinking I knew what size I needed, without measuring the lady bumped me down two band sizes and up one cup, sent me to the changing room with three different bras and I no longer looked dumpy and frumpy.

Am I freaking out for nothing? Help!
tracywag replied to lilyrose245's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
1.How many of you needed your gallbladder removed? Was the option on the table to do it with the sleeve surgery? My gallbladder was removed in my late twenties, after several colicky years. I think we are at risk when we are obese, and weight loss can trigger it. 2. Long term what Vitamins do you take and how many? I already took a multi and D3. I take a multi, B12, Iron and Calcium now. I'll have my first post-op blood work in about a week and adjust if needed. 3. I got two body piercings a long time ago. Nose and ear. Both of which i got keloids from. Will my stomach react the same to the staples, infections? Anbody else who has piercings/ had keloids? I seem to be susceptible to ketoids all my life. Also have metal allergies. I've had a bunch of abdominal surgeries and get adhesions from each. I have not had any reactions or issues. 4. I have a retroverted uterus. Anbody else have it that has had this surgery? Any complications ( The two questions above are noted in my file to be discussed with my surgeon on nxt visit) I don't know, I'd ask your OBGYN as well as your surgeon. I do know this has helped my bladder and a rectocele. Losing weight helps many issues that we had had to live with. 5. Are there ever times when you can eat and drink at the same time? Even just a sip? I understand all the reasons why you shouldn't, just curious if months on out if its possible..my mind is having a hard time wrapping around that thought. This was a weird one to get used to for me. I started preop and am glad that I did. Even pre-op, I was surprised by how much sooner I was full and how much longer I stayed satisfied. I do drink right up until I eat. 6. What happens if i do all the required visits and chicken out at the last minute? The dietician visits are included in surgery cost, would I end up having to pay for them? That depends on what was negotiated with your surgeon and your insurance Keep asking questions, there is a wealth of knowledge here. Good luck! Tracy BilliLike This -

I guess the first thing I would do if it were me is try to get to WHY. Why do you think you overstretched your pouch? Why do you think you are gaining? Is it the reflux? I know in my head if I feel queasy, tired, have a headache, or other physical things going on, I want my tried and true food friends. I am doing ok finding substitutes so far, but haven't hit a real crisis to test my resolve. So start there. If you are logging, try to figure it out there. If it's a head problem, find someone who works with food issues and work there. I wish you luck.

Take it with a large glass of Water and move on. At t his point, you know your body and program better than he does. Congratulations on the hard work and great results.

I believe the drain I had saved me some bigger problems. I passed the leak test, but was draining too much for their comfort and it was bright red, so I was bleeding in my abdominal cavity. The drain let them see that before my bloodwork showed any loss, and also let them see that the issue resolved after they went in again. I ended up with mine for two weeks, hated it but think it saved me being readmitted. My advice would be trust your doctor, let go of this fear, and worry about important things like having to share a hospital room with crazy people.

Hospital stay and How long were you out of work?
tracywag replied to Vikingsfan8178's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was in the hospital for 5 days, two longer than my surgeon's norm. I had some unexplained bleeding and needed an additional surgery plus some units of blood. I was off for 6 weeks, which is surgeon's norm and I had the time to take. I work a desk job. -
Help. Sleeve was Monday. Feel like crap
tracywag replied to jnfisher's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I felt demented for not being able to sip without swallowing air! It does get better every day. For whatever reason, early out hot and cold went down more easily than room temp, a little sweet or salty better than bland. Experiment and find what works for you. -
Nov 14. Back to work this week. My biggest struggle now is getting in excercise. I have a desk job and no stairs or anything to use on breaks. I need to figure something out. Down 33 since surgery, 63 since last year at this time. People notice the difference, and I know I am in new clothes, but I don't look that different to myself.

The statistics on divorce after WLS scared me enough to postpone surgery. We have been married 17 years. My husband is a good man, but sometimes goes through bouts of depression and insecurity. Before I committed to surgery this year, I told him my concerns about how it may effect our relationship. I think being aware of it helps, also making it clear that I am not rejecting him in seeking changes. We are in a good place, and getting better. He keeps most junk out of the house, and I don't harp on him about having a beer or going to a fast food place for lunch. Just keep the lines of communication open, with each other and with yourself. Respect each other, and respect yourself enough to make good choices.

I'm just beginning to research WLS - i'm a total skeptic
tracywag replied to AimeeCakes's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It took me a long time to even consider bariatric surgery. Like you, I was convinced that I should be able to do this on my own. Then after researching, I thought the behavioral changes have to happen with or without surgery: if I can't make them without then why do I think I can make them with? So I went to a dietician, followed her plan and upped my excercise. I lost 30lbs, and while that was great, I couldn't budge past that. And I moved from pre-diabetic to diabetic. So 7 years after I began searching, I commited to a surgeon and to the sleeve. I planned the surgery around my home and work schedule, leaving myself plenty of room to back out if my gut told me to. I had the surgery on 11/14. I survived Thanksgiving and Christmas on restriction, and am now eating real foods again. I have lost another 30, putting me 60lbs down from last year. My blood glucose is normal, my blood pressure low normal. I move better, I feel better and I don't hate on myself for not having the willpower to just tough it out without this tool. Because it is only a tool, we have to do the real work ourselves. I will have to fight to make a new normal relationship with food, and fight not to slide back into what was comfortable. But I am glad I did it. I am also glad that I waited until my emotional reactions settled down. Good luck with whatever you decide. Make you decision based on facts, and on your own love for yourself. It's not a failure, and it's not a punishment - it's a gift. -
I had one just before surgery, one just after, then was supposed to be daily while I was in the hospital (plan was 2-3 days). I was bleeding excessively in my drain so they stopped them.

Second Guessing Having Surgery - What to do?
tracywag replied to Bino's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't blame you a bit for being scared, that sounds terrifying. There's no need to rush an answer, find out more about what happened and why. In the meantime be very kind to yourself and try to follow 'the rules' as much as you can. -
What have you done well and not so well?
tracywag replied to Sunnyskies2283's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm doing good on diet and liquids. Not so good on exercise. I am sore and exhausted. -
severe muscle pain at surgical site!
tracywag replied to mrsbailey921's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved 11/14 and am going through about the same thing. 9-10 days out I started have serious muscle pain, like post c-section pain. Laying on my side with a heating pad helps, and I started taking the pain killers again at my doctor's suggestion. We just need to rest and heal. -
Tofu tastes like whatever you cook it with. You can get a soft texture or a firm one. Some places even sell it seasoned.

It's not unheard of, but it''s also kind of a problem. Yes, surgery can be delayed on denied if you don't do your part. And the sleeve can fail us if we don't get ourselves together to adhere to new rules. I'm not trying to beat up on you, I've cancelled this twice. Now I am a week away and have no problems. You may need to address some issues of why you are having problems with these small goals right now with a therapist. Talk to your team, go to group support and work it out. Good luck.
