Got 'stuck' yesterday, now nothing will go down, need urgent advice pls!

From experience , your pouch/stoma is most likely a bit irritated and tender. Do a day of protein shakes and mushy foods to let the irritation subside. -
How (if at all) do you tell a new guy about your band?
Cota129 replied to AmIDoneYet's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
VegasGrace......LMAO. Thank you for a great perspective! I am divorcing, thinking about dating someday, and was wondering about how to talk about the lapband. Never throught about it in the same terms as pap smears and colonscopies!! -
I was just diagnosed with diverticulitis on Wed. I have been having cramps that would double me over and just about knock me off my feet. This past Wed. the pain was so bad that I was fainting from it. Was diagnosed with it, given 2 antibiotics, and have to have a colonoscopy when I'm done with the meds. Is diverticulitis common with lap bands?

My rant about drivers..... Dear Dumbass, Stores, restaurants, gas stations, and yes, even your home, all have garbage cans. Please quit throwing your garbage, and I mean any of the amazing things I have seen coming out of a car window, onto the roadway where it clutters up the environment. How hard is it to keep it in your car until you get near a garbage can? I'm sick and tired of seeing your beer bottles, soda cans, fast food bags, cigarette butts, condoms, furniture, etc. on the side of the road. Grow up and respect the earth. It's the only one we have!

I can eat hard bread like croutons or the hard crust from, say, garlic bread. Pasta, I have recently been able to eat very small amounts. Forget rice. In the long run, not being able to have these items in my diet like I used to is a very small trade off for the way I feel and look now. In the past months, food has taken on such a different role in my life. It used to have a big one. Now, food is not that important. I don't think about it, I really don't care about it. Don't get me wrong, I love food. It just isn't something that is a big deal anymore.

Do you use liquid Motrin (Ibuprofen)?
Cota129 replied to TerriDoodle's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I use 2-3 junior tablets if I need them. That's the lowest adult dose. Before surgery, because my knees and back hurt all the time, I was taking 800-1000 mg. of Motrin every morning . With the weight I've lost, I no longer hurt and just need it occasionally. -

I use the Junior chewable motrin when I need to. I like the grape flavor the best. 2 is worth one adult Motrin -
What I have found over the months is that my ability to eat meat varies on the cut, how moist it is, and the temperment of my band on any given day. There are some days that no matter how much I chew and no matter how small the pieces are, meat just won't go down well. On other days, as long as I eat slowly, tiny pieces, and lots of chewing; meat is not a problem. I can never eat much. 2-3 oz. is generally my max at any meal.

Okay Seriously how much do you eat?
Cota129 replied to armywife4life's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am one of the lucky ones that had restriction right from the beginning. I had 3cc put in at surgery. From the get go, I have not been able to eat more than a few bites of anything. I found out quickly that I can't eat any rice, bread, pasta, etc. I eat protein, fruits, and vegetables and get full very quickly. I'm now at 6.25 cc and have excellent restriction. Overeating for me has very sudden, very nasty consequences (sliming, vomiting, etc.) so stretching is not a concern for me. I've learned to eat very slowly, chew like crazy and stop at the hint of full. -

I flat out refuse to weigh and measure my food. I eat what I can eat, then I am done. I don't eat alot. I am very careful about making good choices. Part of the reason for getting the band was that I did not want to be on a "diet". I fail at diets. I want to eat like a "normal" person and I can now. I love it! -
If she's your friend, she should understand if you say that money is tight and you can only contribute XX amount of money toward her meal as her gift from you. To expect anyone to pay for a meal without discussion beforehand is so rude. My best friend of 41 years and I decided a long time ago to stop doing gifts and we generally go dutch. It makes it easier, especially when one of us is going through a tough period. If she doesn't understand and gets pissy, thats not much of a friend.

I never thought it would happen to me.....
Cota129 replied to JennyLynn's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wow....I just found out last week, 7/7, that my husband has been having an affair with a woman from his job for the past few years. I guess I knew in my gut that there was someone else, but I have been in big denial. We've been married for 22 years and have 3 children. It came to the front last Monday when my husband was having an angiogram and she called to see how he was. My husband had been telling her that we were getting divorced, and it would be final this summer, so she was as surprised as I was to find that he was still involved with me. She and I were living in a life of lots of denial. Now the term "fool in love" takes on a whole new meaning. Well, he is now getting his divorce and she can have him. I am devastated. This was the man that, despite having some significant marriage struggles, I love with all my heart. I can't eat, I can't sleep, I wake up every morning crying. The future is so scary right now. Hang in there. I hear life gets better as time goes on. -
How many fills to find your "Sweet Spot"?
Cota129 replied to LB4Life's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have only 8 months of experience under my belt, but I can tell you I had a really good first fill that was probably darn close to my "sweet spot" Three weeks ago I felt like I needed an adjustment as I was having a much easier time eating. I only had .5cc put in, but it turned out to be too much and I had a helluva bad 24 hrs. before I could get unfilled. I had a large portion taken out since I was so irritated. I had a good fill with 6.5cc, went to 7cc which was too tight. I had all taken out with the exception of 1.5, bumped up to 5 a few days later because I was still somewhat irritated, waited 2 weeks and am now back to 6.25cc. It seems to me that it can be hit or miss for some ppl. It also depends on the size of the band and a variety of other factors. Amount needed in the band and number of adjustments are a very individual thing. -
How bad is the pain from the surgery?
Cota129 replied to Startingover!'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'd say the pain the first few days was a 5 when I moved. I also had a large hernia repair. However, it was never bad enough that I needed to take a pain pill. After the first couple of days, I was sore, but moving around with no problem. I slept on my back the first week and then was able to sleep on my stomach with no problem. No, you can't feel the band in you, but you can feel the port if you look around a bit. -
Just went through this last week-end. I thought I would loosen up a bit with warm liquids. I was able to drink small amounts over a period of HOURS and then it would start coming back up. Coughing started, my band got tighter and tighter, and I wasn't able to swallow my own spit. Sounds like you're too tight. Get a small unfill.

My goodness.....a whore? Well then, I'm one, too, and lovin' it!!

Isopure fruity drink thingies...
Cota129 replied to MicheleK's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I buy mine at The Vitamin Shoppe. They do have an online store. Bought a carton of 12-42g bullets today for $35. The carton of 12-24 g are $33, so the 42g are more cost effective. -
Isopure fruity drink thingies...
Cota129 replied to MicheleK's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My opinion, Isopure is not worth it. You can get singles ar GNC and Vitamin Shoppe, but they are very expensive and taste horrible. If you want a high protein supplement, I like the New Whey Bullets that come in 24g or 42 g of protein. The fruit punch is really good. They taste nasty if you drink them straight from the tube, but are Kool-aid-ish tasting if you add them to a bottle of water. -
I think my insicion is infected....
Cota129 replied to jeremiahsmommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Could possibly be infected. That can happen to any incision/cut/wound, etc. Call your doctor ASAP. -
I had a very successful first fill in December and needed a small (.5) tweak yesterday because I was feeling like I was getting significantly looser after losing some weight. My doc puts no restrictions on what kind of food to eat after a fill. I had some cottge cheese a couple of hours later, ate it with no problem, but last night I wasn't able to eat much of anything without sliming like crazy. I can drink slowly and keep down fluids, but food isn't liking me right now. I've never experienced tight, just good restriction. I read on here that many people have restrictions for just liquids for the first couple of days after a fill (which is what I'm doing now). How do you tell the difference between too tight or swollen?

How does/did your spouse react when you were in the process of getting the surgery?
Cota129 replied to mphsmommy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My husband is very supportive, but doesn't say alot. All he said when I told him what I was doing was "I'm glad you made that decision. I worry about you." For him to say that much is pretty good. He doesn't make a lot of comments now, but will say how different I feel and yesterday he said "Hey!! I can pick you up now!" He's a man of few words, but I know he's really happy with my decision. -
Not only do you get huge gobs of saliva that you have to spit out, but your stomach makes more mucus stuff that is going to come up whether you want it to or not. It's like hacking up a HUGE lugie. Gross, but true. That's the reason for chew, chew, chew.
