My O My, I was banded 6-21-05 and I am still on and I quote from the dietician at the Dr's office "anything that can be taken through a straw" So I have been on broth with a little instant mashed potatoes for a thicker consistency. I have also been trying to choke down some protein drinks since I have noticed that I have been sluggish since I had not been getting enough protein. I drink tons of water - but it feels like it gets stuck once in a while. I still have some swelling inside and was told to take ibuprofen to aid with the swelling. I would really make a phone call to the Dr about that. Up until today, the gas had been horrendous. Mostly because it was up in my shoulder and so painful for me:cry Another problem is that I have to be on a college campus for the next six weeks 4 days a week away from my family and I think that they gave me the LAST room in the LAST dorm building on the FARTHEST side of campus from where I need to be so I have gotten some major walking in as well as lugging around a backpack that weighs like 40 pounds! side note: I love to get rid of that heavy packpack - I wonder what it will be like when we are 40 pounds lighter! I can't wait!!!

I went shopping for my meds at our local Wal Mart and discovered a medicine named "PhaZyme" which contains 180 mg of simethicone where Gas-X contains only 120 mg of the active ingredient that helps the gas pain. It has worked wonderfully for me.

My O My, try to take some ibuprofen - the children's liquid stuff if you have to. that seemed to help me with the swelling. I am 10 days post banding and am still swollen. I took between 400-800 mg at a time. I can now take a pill. At first, I could only take the liquid. The children's variety of Motrin (generic, it's less expensive, same meds) offers only 6 doses at 400 mg. Expensive, I know, but I needed it and you may also. Of course, consult with your doctor about it. I am only 4'11" and it seems to still be swollen to a degree that I still feel like I have a baby head stuck in my ribs. I am serious. When the gases come on, I can look down and see a huge lump there just like when I was pregnant. Weird. Anyway, best of luck to you. As I am sure that you already know, your body needs the liquid, so keep trying!

I so need the support! Please count me in to lose at least 10 in 10. Of course, I am shooting for the moon and if I miss, at least I will be among stars:banana

Hello All, My name is Wendy and I was just banded on Tuesday, June 21, 2005. I have three children 21, 16, and 11. I am also one year away from my teaching degree with certification to teach grades k-8. About the band... I am really missing 'REAL' food since I need to intake only Clear liquids. Any ideas what could possibly help? Also, does anybody else feel like there is a baby head stuck up in their ribs like me? Is it swelling inside? What could possibly feel like that? It feels really weird. :nervous Also, don't have any idea how anybody could go to work the next day - I am two days post-op and can hardly bend over and pick stuff up from the floor. I seem to have a lot of pain in my five incisions. Each time I bend over I feel like my insides are going to explode out of my guts.

I did not make Breakfast for anyone today and reminded them that Cereal was on the refri if they wanted it. I am not going to church either. I am just going to take this opportunity to rest while the house is empty. Thank you for the good advice! One more question... Does the gas ever go away completely? I am so full! I am taking Gas-X and also went to Wal-Mart and purchased another gas remedy with the name of "PhaZyme" that has more "simethicone" than Gas-X does. It never seems to end, however.:sick :tired

Will the gas ever go away for good without the aid of pills and such? I had thought that it was just for the first few weeks since they had opened up our body cavities and air is now inside. Please help!?!?! -
You girls will do great! I am sure of it! I too have three children and was beside myself with worry and it did not help at all. Worry is like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do, but it gets you absolutely nowhere! You have begun a wonderful journey! You are in my prayers.

I have been roaming around this site for months and you are the first person that I have read about being able to have "mushies" right out of the hospital! How many days were you in the hospital? Mine was a day surgery - in at 1:30 and out at 5:00pm and then a 3-hr. ride home *sigh* This thing is still stuck in my ribs like a baby head and I think I am hungry just because I have not chewed - mental - I know - but still... I think I just need some support and encouragement. Here I am fixing supper for everyone in my house and I made the most delicious roasted chicken with veggies - low salt, no butter and I CAN'T EAT ANY!!! waa... Thanks for letting me unload... I think I'll go melt yet, some more Jello in my mouth and pretend like it is food and not horses hoofs that I am eating

Demetria, Thanks for your response. What are you doing about the food? I decided to mix a little bit of instant mashed potatoes with my beef broth tonight - felt good - but now I feel nauseated. .....not sure what to do.... ....grrrrrr......

Hello, my name is Wendy and I live in the Wenatchee area. I was just banded on Tuesday 6.21.05 by Dr. Watkins at NW Weightloss Clinic in Kirkland. They specialize in banding only so they have a huge amount of experience. I felt confident going into surgery and even now. The only problems are that I had heard that people could back to work one to three days post-op and that is so not happening for me. If I bend over, I feel like my insides will fall out! Also, I feel as if I am seven months pregnant because of the gas! I keep walking hoping to get things moving, but not much luck yet! I am sooooo hungry I could eat a cow! I guess I just want to chew on something, even if it is shoe leather - haha Anybody else go kinda crazy in the clear liquid stage also? I would appreciate any tips or ideas!
