I was on broth and water for 10 days before advancing to full liquids. I'm still alive. I also had to do a two week liquid pre op diet. So basically liquids for a month. There is no way I'm not following my surgeon 's instructions. Really? It's only food. I'm now a little over two months out and still at the soft stage. I refuse to deliberately do anything to jeopardize my new stomach. So my love, get ahold of some resolve and treat your new tiny, healing tummy as a new baby who is only allowed to have breast milk or formula. That bread and cheese will be right there when tiny tummy will be able to handle a tiny taste. Best.

Goal at 15 Months Post-Op
finediva replied to NewSetOfCurves's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Well just look at you! Congrats! -
I believe it's an individual thing. I had a drain for 10 days and was quite sore on my right side. *That* was the very last thing on my mind!

Complications....so broken and sadden
finediva replied to boojak2003's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@boojak2003. Was it your choice to leave the hospital? Did they want you to stay or gave you a choice? -
Yes, I also heard that something in turkey helps with better sleep. So maybe if you have the smack before you go to sleep, you'll sleep through and not wake up hungry. Also, once your body gets used to having a snack in the middle of the night, it's going to be hard to break that habit. You should really try and not eat when you wake up in the middle of the night. I know it must be easier said than done. I am insomniac and wake up every night for long periods of time. Thankfully I an not hungry in the middle of the night. Best.

My only tip would be to stack on Protein, not the carbs. At least that's going to be my strategy. Keep cut up grill chicken and turkey, hard boiled eggs and shrimp. Try a few almonds. I don't know about you, but I cannot eat 4 crackers and be done with it; it's always half the pack! Congrats on the great loss.

I felt like crap for the first ten days because my surgeon had me sipping four ounces of water or broth per hour. Nothing else. I was probably averaging 40 calories a day, because i was unable to do the jello or popsicles. New tummy was unable to handle cold stuff and to this day I an unable to tolerate artificial sweeteners. Feels like I'm eating a bowl full of sugar. This from a person who was used to consuming sugar. So, once I was allowed full liquids on day 11, everything changed with that first 2 ozs of cream of wheat! And stop comparing yourself. I did not dance down my street, climb a mountain, shop at the mall or walk 2 miles my first 3-4 weeks. I did this at my pace and let my body heal as it wanted to. I walked a little every day, concentrated on the protein and water, which still takes ALL my energy everyday, and napped as needed. Give yourself time. You will get through this. Best.

Complications....so broken and sadden
finediva replied to boojak2003's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello my love. So, so sorry about your current experience with the surgery. First, the swallow test>>>you will drink some special kind of liquid and a scan will be done to see how it moves through your system>>sleeve>>. I had one done the day after my surgery and most people get some form of it done also. Some doctors do it during the surgery. I hope all of this clears up soon and you can be on your way to a full recovery. You seem really worried about your fiance, but you also stated he is being supportive. Try not to worry too much about him right now and instead focus all your energy on your healing and recovery moving forward. With excellent medical care and attention, your medical team will see you through this. Hopefully soon things will turn around and you will begin to feel differently about your decision. I know it's tough to do so now. Blessings. -
What do you do about birthdays?
finediva replied to CherokeeGirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Don't know what you can eat based on your program, but early happy birthday. At your 61 next year you'll be able to answer this question so much easier, and do so while shopping for that smaller size birthday outfit! -
27 and so wise. Good for you that you recognized the need to take charge of your health at an early age. Congrats on the decision and the awesome progress. Best.

Sleeved 8-27 I'm dying here! ;(
finediva replied to beckyparks's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Why are you having such a hard time? Did your surgeon give any explanation for the complications, except for lack of adequate fluids for the dehydration? I'm so very sorry you are experiencing such things. Please, feel better soon. Best. -
Well you're going to get right back to the liquid diet right? That's all you can do. Keep going with the program to a healthier and happier you. Best.

I never ever drank 64 onces of water or fluids pre sleeve surgery. Yes, I drank coffee in the am, ate some fruit and maybe on some days a couple glasses of water. I always had clear urine. I do understand that I'm now eating less and therefore no longer getting fluids naturally from my foods. Example, I no longer eat fruit. My issue is I'm two months out and have yet to get the 64 ozs in. Most days I came close to 60 ozs, but it's difficult. I have no idea how others are doing it. What with having to wait to drink before and after eating. I'm usually still trying to get my fluids in at 10 pm. I read where some are drinking 80ozs a day and I'm amazed! How do they do it? Also, I'm just not thirsty. Ever. I make the mental commitment ever day, but just hafe not reached the 64 ozs yet.

Hi, I had my surgery two months ago. To this day I have shared my decision with NO ONE. I did this for me and did not want anyone's opinion on my decision. I thank God for this forum, because it gave me a place to come and be with people going through similar experiences. I have deal with the lack of friend and family support well. The only two people who I would of shared this with, and received total support from, left this life 9 yrs ago. So, I chose to go it alone. Try to get into your own head and simply focus on your goals and dreams. Keep the debbie downers and negative nellies far away!. Some people don't know how to be kind and supportive and some just don't want to.

10 month Post op - the whole story possible tmi

What month did the stinky smell start? I wonder if this happens with a lot of people? Two months out, no smell yet> -
Exactly! I too ponders in confusion.

You go for it! I had to quit a very serious coffee, (caffeine) addiction before my surgery. It almost killed me and I was very thankful I did not kill anyone. You you asked to give up caffeine? I was advised by my nutritionist three months prior to start weaning myself off, but I choose to ignore her recommendations and waited until my 2 week pre op diet. I paid, big time! All the best on your journey. Your early commitment is an asset to you.

I had this surgery to help me reduce the amount of food I ate. I was not a junk food eater. I ate too much of the right things. Way too much and occasionally I would binge eat. It was all a vicious cycle. I am happy that having the surgery took away my desire for sugar, because when I binge ate that was my food of choice.

Hi and welcome. I was sleeved on July 18th, so we are close in surgery dates. Congrats on the decision to have the surgery. I'm still in the learning process.

Congrats . You look healthy, happy and pretty. Thanks for sharing your journey. -
You lost 26 pounds and went from a size 20 to a 10? I've lost 35 pounds and have only moved 1 comfortable size down.

@McButterpants. Thanks so much for the response. My pre op two week diet required I drank Bariatric Advantage shakes. I did the vanilla and was fine with it. After surgery I now have no tolerance for sugar or the sweetness of the shakes. I actually enjoy the unflavored protein in the skim milk. Strange, right? I'm glad that you say you still drink a shake. The shakes are the only way I'm able to meet my protein goal. I'm two months today, no weight loss in two weeks, but I'm mostly happy about my decision.

@@McButterpants I'm 2 months out tomorrow and using 16 ozs of fat free milk to make my shakes daily. It's the only way I can get the recommended amount of Protein. I'm not consuming any other carbs besides whats in the milk, which is a lot. I tried Almond milk and could not stomach it. I use unflavored protein in the skim milk. While skin milk is on my plan, I would like to know what others think about dairy and how it affects weight loss. Thanks
