  1. But celebrations will always be planned; several times a year. You have to try and find choices you can have at these eating events. If you are allowed to, bring a veggie dish. If it's at a restaurant, well, you know what to do. The different foods are not going to go away because we had surgery. We just have to make choices that will be beneficial to this new lifestyle we have voluntarily chosen. Happy birthday.
  2. Yep, after surgery I could no longer stand the disgustingly sweet and thick shake. I now drink unflavored protein powder in skim milk and I love it. I almost wish I could just do that for my meals as I seem to have little interest in exploring food.
  3. Why do you think it maybe cancelled? Are you running a fever or was told that your wound is infected? Have you returned your foot surgeon since going to urgent care?
  4. Well do all these people know you had the surgery, including your mother? While 70 pounds is alot, and I do congratulate you, it may also depend on where the weigh had come off and also, if you are still wearing the same clothes. Either way, you should be encouraged by your own progress. I know we all want to be validated, but don't this to yourself. Please be pleased and happy for you, that you have lost 70pounds!
  5. Well is there something that can be done to fix this? What has your PCP suggested? Is this something that you have experienced before? Try to get some answers.

    Recovery time

You will recover at your own rate. As you know everyone is different. On here there are some who returned to work in a week, went shopping, cleaned house and did gardening in a few days. I was on only broth and water, with a drain for 10 days. I had zero energy and besides walking around my house, didn't do much else. Coffee, it's supposed to cause dehydration. I had a serious coffee/caffeine addiction. I was strongly advised by my surgeon and NUT to give up the habit before surgery. Actually I was told to start the process when I met with the surgeon three months before my surgery. Of course I ignored them. Waited until my two week pre op diet and thought I was going to die. You don't want to be going through caffeine withdrawal symptoms when trying to recover from your surgery. Best.

Welcome. My only suggestion, be careful about stocking up on the protein shakes. Your taste may likely change after surgery. Several, including myself, have experienced this. Best wishes on your journey.

    Angry

Hi, why are you eating egg and cheese if you are supposed to be on liquids? Please be careful that you don't hurt your new healing tummy.

    Aversion to sweet protein drinks

@Bufflehead. Thanks for the info. I'm not a cold/ice beverage girl. I even drink my water at room temp.

    Aversion to sweet protein drinks

Thanks fr the tip. The brand I use says not to add to liquids above 140 degrees or it will clump. I like my coffee and soup HOT. I'll try what you recommended.

    Aversion to sweet protein drinks

I too was unable to tolerate the super sweet shakes after surgery. I drink unflavored Protein powder in non fat lactaid milk, and I love it. Added Peanut Butter and coco a few times, but I prefer it plain and basically it just taste like milk. I like my Soup hot enough to burn my mouth so I do not put it in my soup. Wish I could.
  13. Of course there is tenderness and soreness. They took a knife and cut you open. While the outside may look healed and maybe the tapes have fallen off, the layers inside of you is not.

    Vomiting

Yesterday I went 5 hours between breakfast and lunch. Wasn't planned, just happened. Well, since my surgery I have not had one single incident of nausea, vomiting, slimming (need a new word), or any yucky stomach incidents. So after getting a rotisserie chicken for the family dinner, I proceeded to sit in my car and stuff, yes stuff, my face with 4 very large quick bites of chicken breast. I now know what slimming (need a new word), and vomiting after eating TOO fast means. I will not try that ever again. Period. I've learned my lesson.

    Pain Meds

Extra strength Tylenol will do the trick very nicely!
  16. In the US there would normally be a rehabilitation phase to help you gain your strength back, after such a very long hospital stay. First, so happy for you that you made it through this crisis. Hope the healing continues. But more importantly, were you not given any eating guidelines now that you are healed and back home? What type of post op support is being provided to you?

    Anyone else

So what is your surgeon or team sayiny about your results?

    Ok I'm mad!

    Me too!
  19. I guess you have already told the surgeon about your previous surgeries, right? Not everyone forms scar tissue. She told me as she was completing the sleeve and leaving my tummy I was already forming scar tissue. So I guess I'm just made that way. All the best.
  20. I went to a baby christening 9 days post op, with a drain attached to me. I drove there and enjoyed the evening, but was not able to eat the dinner as I was still on clear liquids. I had fun thou. You do what your body will allow you to do.Best.
  21. I had scar tissue from four previous open abdominal surgeries. My sleeve surgery was 5 1/2 hours as my surgeon had to remove the scar tissue before she could proceed. Hoping for a good outcome for you.
