    Wanted: September Sleevers!

Good luck!! I'll be looking forward to hearing how it goes for you. I have Dr. Shah. I think what you're bringing is fine. I don't think you take vitamins until after they clear you at your 2 week follow-up.

    September Sleevers!

Hello All! Scheduled for 9/29. I have pre-op on 9/15 and one last psych visit on 9/16. Went away for the weekend with my hubby and let's just say I had fun (French Toast sticks and a small waffle for breakfast) I don't have to do a pre-op diet really except 2 days before where I have to be on full liquids but after the fun I had I am going to try shakes and a bar as meal replacement as well as veggies and protein for dinner this week so I have a good weigh in for pre-op. Good luck to everyone! I am especially enjoying the post-op check ins!

Janny - I also scheduled for 9/29! Best of luck! Krystle - is the sparkling ice carbonated? Of so I wouldn't be allowed that on my plan. Otherwise it sounds fine.

"I thought you did this yourself." ...?

Look how beautiful you are! You know how hard you're working! Don't let anyone steal your joy!
  11. Woah woah woah...complications are less than 1% not 10% Let's not scare people needlessly. If it were 10% no one would want to do it! Now that's not to say there isn't the chance of discomfort or difficulties...but there's a big difference between a complication and some struggle. That said, it is going to be a lifestyle change. If you are going to be successful you will need to weigh and measure and plan your meals. It won't be easy. It's totally normal to feel nervous (I'm pre-op and yes I am nervous!) but I am more nervous about ever increasing diabetic medications, high blood pressure, increased risk of stroke, cancer and heart problems. I trust my surgeon and I have faith that I am making the right decision to save my life.

Suggestions for Zumba DVDs and a great blog!

Look for Zumba Gold...it's an easier version of Zumba designed for older people or those who want a less intense workout. They have a 3 DVD set http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B009HSDC2Y?pc_redir=1408113671&robot_redir=1 They also have Zumba Gold classes if you're looking for a class. You can find them by looking on the Zumba website

    Wanted: September Sleevers!

Oh God yes! Mostly I am excited. I am dreaming of all the good things that will be forthcoming like no more diabetes meds, cute clothes from stores I always wanted to shop in and getting to do more fun things like buying a nice bike and going on long rides. But I have my moments. Last night I got pretty anxious and started worrying about how hard it's going to be. I'm also worried about telling people. I'm probably telling my husband's parents tomorrow and I don't know how they'll react. The other day I was obsessing about people at work talking about me once I have a noticeable loss (I have only told my best friend at work and my boss and that's probably the only two people I'm going to tell)

    Wanted: September Sleevers!

No you're not alone! I still have to lose 6 pounds to reach the goal my surgeon gave me. I have 6 weeks to get there but yeah, I am enjoying myself too. Today I had a lobster roll, onion rings (shared with hubby) and ice cream. The weekend after Labor Day we are going away for the weekend and there is a place that has a Sunday breakfast buffet we love with the best French toast sticks and I am planning to enjoy some (will try not to go crazy) I know one day I'll be able to have these things again in moderation but I feel like I need to enjoy them one last time before surgery. I plan to follow the plan my nutritionist gave me to get me to where the surgeon wants me (2 protein shakes a day...or three and a protein bar as a snack, plus a healthy dinner of veggies, protein and whole grains) 98% of the time until surgery (I don't have to do all liquids or anything special except for two days before) but I am having a few fond farewells in between now and then.

    Pregnancy?

I would ask your surgeon. I'm nearing 40 so mine told me if I have any interest in trying to get pregnant I would have to wait about 9 months. If I were younger her recommendation would be to wait until at least 18 months out.

    Wanted: September Sleevers!

I'm Steph...also in Boston and having my surgery at Tufts. My date is September 29. I just turned 39 and I am anxious and excited. Have only told 4 people so far my husband, 2 of my best friends and my boss. I am telling my in-laws and my brother and sister this weekend....nervous about their reactions. I may tell a couple of other close friends (3 or so) before surgery but not sure if I'll tell anyone else. If so, might not tell them until later. Good luck to everyone! I am looking forward to sharing the journey with you all!

    NEWBIES..... LETS STICK TOGETHER

I wouldn't worry too much about getting too skinny. You have to take into consideration how tall you are and your bone structure. Someone who got down to a size 2 May very well be healthy at that weight. Me...not so much as I am 5'9" and know that the weight I want to be might get me to a 10 or 8 and will give me a healthy BMI. If you want to see what someone at your height looks like based on their weight and size check out mybodygallery.com - that helped me to see what I might look like at goal and helped me decide what would be too low for me. Initially your calorie count will be low as you heal and get used to your sleeve. As you get more comfortable and get closer to your goal weight you'll eat more. If you ever feel like your weight is too low or your calorie count is preventing you from maintaining at a weight you're comfortable with, see your nutritionist and work on a plan that will keep you where you want to be and are healthiest at. As long as you realize you will have an ongoing relationship with your nutritionist and the rest of your care team you'll be fine! Good luck!! =)

    Potential fall sleevers?

I am lucky in that the weight goal my surgeon gave me isn't too crazy. She was happy that I've already lost weight and she said if I lose 5 more she'll be satisfied...I'd like to lose 9-14 more but we'll see. That said I am currently trying different Protein drinks. So far I love Muscle Milk, Premier Protein and unjury. Ensure High Protein is decent. I am going to order some samples from Nashua Nutrition too..specifically Chike and Syntrax nectar in case I end up not feeling the chocolate/vanilla/strawberry ones later. I might try the Isopure Protein Drinks too. I am ordering my Vitamins as the Nut wants me to bring them to my next appointment in 2 weeks. The other Nut at the practice told us that if we got the Bariatric Advantage Advanced EA the only other supplement we would need would be Calcium Citrate so I am leaning towards that. I am going to make a spreadsheet of my options and do a cost comparison. If I don't go that route I'll need a multi with Iron, Vitamin D, Vitamin B12 and the calcium citrate. I am on vacation this week so Monday I'll go to HR and see what my options are as far as time off goes. I have nearly 2 weeks of sick time in the bank and about 3 weeks of vacation left. I am only planning on 3 weeks off but will put in for FMLA in case I need more....it's just a matter of how I get paid. I am hoping I can use some vacation time as I am a manager of 11 associates and don't want to take vacation and other time away for surgery...sounds silly but I like my job and I am very busy and don't want to be away too long. I am also looking into options for local support groups post-op and considering Overeaters Anonymous and therapy (I was in therapy for several years but moved last year and quit going) I am also finding out where local thrift stores and consignment shops as I want to wait until I get to goal to spend lots of money on clothes.
