June 2014 Sleevers Check In!
livingmore replied to SnohoGal98296's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved June 30 and started my full liquid diet on Friday. All went week Friday through yesterday then BAM, all the sudden nothing tastes the same and I want to gag at each sip of protein shake or soup. Ughhh! Anyone else's tastes change suddenly? -
How many calories are you all getting per day? I'm lucky to get about 400 these days... But I am getting 60gms Protein by sipping on my shakes throughout the day. I am curious if you guys have been given a target to try to reach?

Yay! That's awesome that you are feeling better with more energy. I drove for the first time yesterday and will drive to the doctor this afternoon to have my staples removed (I have 14 total). Overall I am less sore everyday and the bruising is getting a little better. My liquids are going down easier and I can drink now about 4-5 oz at a time (in 30 mins span). I am on the full liquid diet for another week and start soft foods next Monday. The liquids don't bother me. I am not hungry at all, but the head hunger is a battle - seeing my family eat BBQ over the 4th was tough. I am on a Facebook group through my surgeon's office and apparently a woman 2 weeks post op ate a chicken finger and busted her staple line. Every time I think about real food, I think of that then go back to enjoying my Water or Protein shake!! Good luck to everyone starting week 2!

You are not alone! I have the blisters and rashes where my adhesive was too

I'm itchy too!! It means we are healing!

3 days post-op - can only drink warm liquids
livingmore posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
June 30th was my day and it went great. I had no nausea and very little gas pain. I only have 2 small issues so far and I am wondering if the are common: 1. If I sip anything cold or room temp it feels like a stabbing pain in my stomach. Warm liquids do not hurt. 2. Everytime I take a sip I feel/hear this sizzling noise and I burp involuntarily. What is that all about? I have only had Water, Gatorade, tea, and broth so far. -
I have been fantasizing and craving food too but not hungry at all. Pretty sure that is normal. I used to eat from boredom too... So now I have to find something else to do!
-
Doing pretty good. Still sore and I have lots of huge bruises around a couple of my incisions. Still on clear liquids through tomorrow. I have very little energy. It is hard to watch the rest of my family eat. Even though I am not hungry at all, I was fantasizing about food. I need to start fantasizing about what I will feel like at goal instead . Hope the rest of you are doing well!

Starting day 4 today and the pain is even less and I can drink a little more with no pain. I'm on Clear Liquids until Saturday when I can start the full liquid diet for 2 weeks. So far I would say this hasn't been nearly as bad as I thought it would be! For that, I am Very thankful. The worst part for me was waking up post-op in excruciating pain that wrapped around my body. Once that was gone everything else has been tolerable! I haven't been hungry at all so that makes this part way easier than the pre-op diet

Alabama here! Sleeved June 30th. So far so good. Just lots of stinging burning on my left incision that has a HUGE bruise! I am having a hard time getting in 64oz liquids though.

How are my fellow June 30th sleeves doing? I'm still really sore and bruised (mostly on my left side) but other than that I don't have too much to complain about!

June 2014 Sleevers Check In!
livingmore replied to SnohoGal98296's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi All, I had my sleeve done on 6/30 so barely sliding in the deadline on this group! Surgery went well! Looking forward to keeping up with you all! -
I took the gas x strips when I had the gas pain. Walking seems to do the most to get rid of it though! Good luck!
-
My surgery went well and I was home by 5 pm. The pain when I first woke up was excruciating. I think it was gas pain and it radiated all around me. Walking did help. I have to go back at 12:30 today to have the drain removed. It has by far been the grossest and most annoying part. Lastly one of my incision spots on the left is super swollen with a red circle around it... I am hoping that is not indicative of any issue Hope everyone else is doing well! I'm glad to be on the other side!

Today is the day!! I am nervous and emotional. That's normal right? Praying all goes well for all the 6-30-14 sleeves!!!
-
You look amazing! Congratulations !!!
-
The liquid diet was really hard for me yesterday and I was snappy and emotional with my family! Today is Clear liquids and bowel prep so hoping it is a better day despite that . I have to be there at 9:30 and my surgery will be at 11:30. I also wish it were earlier but it is what it is . I am ready to be on the other side of this!! I'm praying for us all on Monday!!

Did you take your multi-Vitamin, b12, b-1 (or whatever your doctor/NUT suggested) while on your pre-op diet? They wanted me to go ahead and start taking them. I RARELY get sick/nauseas, but I took my Vitamins about an hour after my Protein shake this morning and within 3 mins was vomiting. I'm almost scared to try again... I don't think I can get a "full stomach" on this liquid diet. And what does this mean for after the surgery, lol? What are you all doing?

Maybe change surgery from RNY to Sleeve?
livingmore replied to amazon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are not malabsorption issues with the sleeve (according to what I learned yesterday from my nutritionist). You still have to take the Vitamins though during the weight loss phase but not forever. My aunt had gastric bypass and she does get dumping syndrome and ulcers, and every other complication that comes with RNY. I think seeing her struggle with all that made me opt for Sleeve. I'm sure there are pros and cons to both though! -
Cheating on pre op diet.
livingmore replied to andshewaits's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will be fine with your plain veggies. Don't stress, it's in the past! It is SO hard. I feel your pain. I think having broth is helping me some... i need something salty/savory every once in a while! -
My surgery is Monday and my almost 7 yr old daughter is already asking me why I am not eating dinner with them (liquid pre op diet phase, ha)! I personally do not want to get into the details with her because I don't want to project my weight/body images issues on her or even put them in her mind. I also am only telling my mother and husband about the surgery, so don't want her to know enough details to tell people my surgery business. How are you handling this with your curious kids that are around this age?

Was anyone's sleeve surgery done outpatient and you were sent home that day? I am self pay and surgery will be that morning (6/30, yay!) then sent home late that day and will return the following day to have the drain removed in the office. I haven't seen anyone mention this here and seems like most stay overnight 2 nights. Do you think this is doable and realistic? Anything you can think if for me to ask my doctor at my last pre-op appt on Wednesday? Thanks in advance!

Outpatients? No overnight stay
livingmore replied to livingmore's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you so much for sharing Gammy10! Prayers for a speedy recovery . I usually do well with anesthesia, so I'm hoping not to have the nausea issues, but I've also never had my stomach partially removed before either, haha! -
I'm on 6/30 too!!! Good luck everyone!!! We should keep up with each other for support!
