Where are all the 50 something bypass patients?
Mbstas replied to choosehope's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I agree with all the advantages previously stated. One disadvantage for me at 56 when I had my surgery 18 months ago is the definite lack of elasticity in my skin. If I had had my bypass at a much younger age, I maybe wouldn't have had such flabby, hanging skin! -

Mbstas replied to Dream4tc's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I have both the Fitbit Flex and The Zip.I wear the Flex most days but use the Zip underneath my clothes if I am dressing up. My app is MyFitnessPal. -
Gurgling Upper digestive tract after eating?
Mbstas replied to freelee's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Perfectly normal and it lessens over time. -
IBS and Fibromyalgia. Will gastric sleeve make things worse?
Mbstas replied to Dawn306's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I also have IBS and FMS. Both are 100% better since I had the surgery 16 months ago. I am able to tolerate most all foods. I still have some constipation but I handle it with stool softeners and Miralax. -
I am 16 months post-op with no complications.

Worried about dumping syndrome with gastric bypass....advice...thoughts?
Mbstas replied to lanaml2015's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
No dumping here also. I also just get sick if I overeat. Fifteen months and 120 pounds down. -
Fifteen months out, 120 pounds with no complications or regrets!

None for me as well but I also did a lot of walking.

I am a year post-op from bypass surgery and left the hospital not needing to take the Metformin any more. I had no complications and continue to do well. Have lost 120 lbs and am 5 pounds from my goal weight.

No pain with the drain in and just a slight uncomfortable feeling when they were removing it.

I found exercising before my surgery helped me so much with my pre-surgery weight loss. It also started me on a routine that I was motivated to continue after surgery.

Not everyone loses their hair. I had very little hair loss. I did start biotin before my surgery and made sure I got all my protein in after surgery. Throughout the whole process I continued to have my hair colored and got highlights every six weeks. I am convinced the hair loss is just random. Many get pixie cuts. I got one once I had lost over 100 pounds and I love the look and the ease of the cut. Just try to keep your hair as healthy as you can and you will be fine. If it does happen, it will grow back.

I am a couple of weeks from being 1 year post-op. I have lost 115 pounds with 10 more to go. At this stage, I still have feelings of being overweight and am sometimes surprised by what I see in the mirror and pictures. I don't see a person that is overweight per se but not a thin person either. I weigh 135 and am 5'4".

I have trouble with the carbonation also. A glass of wine sipped slowly works for me.

I had RNY in March 2014 and have lost 115 pounds with just 10 left to go. I weighed 253 and now weigh 136. I was diabetic and l was able to leave the hospital with normal blood sugar levels. Best decision for me.

My hairdresser does not like Pantene either as well as shampoos with sulfates. I also use a salon shampoo. I am almost 1 year post-op RNY and have had very little hair loss. My hair is much coarser though than before the surgery.

Lent starts Wednesday! Do you give anything up?
Mbstas replied to AvaFern's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am also going to use Lent to try to get my last 10 pounds off. I plan to restrict my eating to just the three meals a day with no snacks. On fast days I will have one meal along with 2 protein shakes a day, one for breakfast and one more for lunch. That should help keep my protein levels up. -
My fibromyalgia is so much better since my RNY almost one year ago. I have lost 115 pounds and feel like a new person.

Will I Ever be able to drink wine again?
Mbstas replied to icandoit!'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I drink the occasional glass of white wine. Can't handle any alcohol with carbonation. -
I am 57 and have lost 115 pounds. I do not have hanging skin. It is just wrinkly. Pretty funny looking actually!
-
I'm 60. Anyone else over 50 doing RNY?
Mbstas replied to Pam Peltz's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
57 and 10 months post-op RNY. Have lost 115. -
I get the unbuttered small version at the movies and am able to just eat 1/3 of it.
-
I feel years younger and have so much more energy now. My skin is loose, nothing really hanging, but pretty wrinkled. At my age there isn't much elasticity left. I am able to cover it with clothes and am hoping the lifting routine will tighten things up some. I am realistic though. I am not really interested in plastics, just happy for a return to health.
