Help! Everything makes me sick!
oweemytoe replied to Browneyedgirl818's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
If you are not able to tolerate milk and milk based Protein shakes, nectar makes a great line of protein powders that make a "juice". -
Bariatric Advantage Nectar Protein
oweemytoe replied to tissiegirl's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I tried the Nectar sample pack and fell in love with the Twisted Cherry flavor. I add a scoop on the powder to 20 oz of water plus 1 packet of sugar free kool aid.. = protein packed yummy juice! -
First Pre Op Appointment, Dr blew me off
oweemytoe replied to FindingSassy's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
If you find that you are lactose intolerant they do make protein powders out there that make a juice instead of a shake. Could throwing up come from eating too quickly? -
It can't be just me
oweemytoe replied to newlanashegog's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Before this surgery, I lived to eat and eat and binge and indulge.. now I just eat to live. It is strange how that switched both physically and mentally. -
I have lost 27 pounds so far.

Actual surgical procedure question
oweemytoe replied to MamaTo3inNH's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My lowest incision is to the left of my belly button. -
I am 3.5 weeks out from a RNY. I have no appetite and have had many complications. I have cravings for things like cucumbers and hummus or raw apples but no cravings for sweets at all. I just started soft pureed foods on 12/22/2014 and will be in this stage for another 6 weeks before I can even try solids. I get the majority of my fluids from Protein shakes, Water and Crystal light and am able to get about 60 -65 oz in a day. I have lost almost 30 pounds so far.

painful swallowing
oweemytoe replied to chrysalis2butterfly's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Do you have painful swallowing or pain when the liquid reaches your pouch? Either way this is not normal and you should contact your Dr as soon as possible. -
How long before you returned to work?
oweemytoe replied to chuck415's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had the RNY on 12/3/2014, I was able to return to my part time desk job after 2 weeks, due to complications. I have not gotten medical clearance yet to return to my CNA job. -
Oh definitely taste and sense of smell have both been known to change after this surgery.

4weeks out & I have questions....
oweemytoe replied to MisR's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would call again and ask to see the surgeon . Ask for an appointment, and tell them you are worried and just want someone to look at it, particularly because it just showed up and you have pain when anything touches the stitches and the area . Be a pain in the ass. Sometimes you have to be, to advocate for yourself, especially if you have reached someone who sounds a bit burned out. -
Maggie gave great advice, call your Drs and let us know how u are doing too!

I had food get stuck tonight and the pain and pressure was horrible. Had to walk around as sitting was not comfy at all. Took about 1/2 hr to go away.

4weeks out & I have questions....
oweemytoe replied to MisR's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would definitely call your surgeon's office too! -
I have been in full liquids for 3 weeks due to complications from surgery, believe me, they fill you up. Protein shakes, sf puddings, applesauce, soups, sf jello , by the time you get to eat the soft pureed foods (today was day 1 for me) , I realized the full liquids is just easier. No cravings on the full liquids, now that I can chew food, I find I have more head hunger than before.

Pain in stomach when I sip water
oweemytoe replied to krisstep's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Um.. Don't know if it is normal or not, I would let your surgical team know what's happening. But, my surgeon has said that he has heard that for whatever reason (they are unsure) plain water is painful for a lot of people and suggested I try Crystal Light or any other sf drink mix, which I have and it makes a difference. -
keeping my fingers crossed for you too!! Same thing happened to me and it took nearly 8 months from start to surgery .. but don't give up hope. The extra time really does help!

To keep the rash down under your belly and / or under your breasts, cut strips of old clean tshirts and after you put on your lotion or powder, whichever you get, place one strip on top of the medication between your belly or breasts and skin below to act as a barrier between skin to skin contact. Good thing about using old tshirts is they are washable and reusable and will help a lot! If it is not a fungal infection, I use Desitin or any other baby heat rash ointment, works like a charm. Hope it helps!

I agree with Mel. At least get up and get dressed. That usually works for me when my Depression is at it's worst , that and get some quality dog or cat time. Animals perk me up immensely and spending time with one seems to help. If I can be of any help.. like encouraging texts or emails or phone calls let me know. I understand Depression too well.

No I meant therapy as in a counselor.. not breathing exercises, which would maybe help with anxiety but wouldn't with depression. As for your surgical team, are they an all inclusive facility.. did you have to go talk to a Nutritionist, Psychologist etc? If so, I would definitely get in touch with the Psychologist and make an appointment to go in and talk to them. I would also call your Primary Care, your body may not be absorbing your medications (if you take them) as well as they did before.

Are you going to a therapist? And are you in contact with your surgical team?

I hope surgery went well and I wish you a speedy recovery.. don't forget to sip sip sip that water!

What's for breakfast?
oweemytoe replied to tamg26k's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Right now, pre op, I have a Protein shake every morning made with : 8 oz soymilk, 2 scoops Protein powder and one 6 oz container of Dannon Light and Fit Greek yogurt, comes out to about 27 grams of protein and 9 grams of sugar. Plus it counts towards my liquid intake and with the yogurt, I can switch the taste up with the flavor of yogurt I use.
