oweemytoe replied to Lkk0158's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
December 3rd -
Maybe water is too cold? how about drinking it at room temperature instead?

Good to know, thanks for sharing what you are going through, now I know what to expect. I have had laporscopic operations in the past and had that same pain in the shoulder blades/ back area, from the gas they put in your body while doing the surgery, it is such an awful feeling, hope it goes away soon!!

After starting my weight loss surgery journey back in April 2014, and having my insurance company merge with another one, 3 months later, tell me I had to wait another 3 months before they would even look at an authorization for surgery, the time has come.. my surgery has been scheduled fro December 3, 2014!! FINALLY!

You will do wonderfully! All the surgeons at Wareham Surgical through Southcoast are top notch and Tobey is a great hospital as well!

I am all done with everything, unfortunately my insurance company merged with Tufts, which means I have to wait another 3 months and hopefully will get approval in November for the surgery. -

Good luck! I will keep my fingers crossed for a smooth surgery and an even smoother recovery! You can do this!! -
I started doing that when I started the supplements.. it is a bit surprising, but I don't think it is anything to worry about.

Good luck everyone! I hope you all have smooth surgeries with no complications and a speedy recovery. Keep us posted!! -
It happens right? Some of us hit a lot of bumps in the road along the way to this journey.. at least it gives me more time to prepare myself, lose some weight, go to some support group meetings and get my exercise routine in place.. I will keep my fingers crossed for you that you get rescheduled quickly!

If you are supposed to quit smoking prior to surgery, one would think that that would include pot as well. As I am sure it also affects your lung function and could lead to complications with the anesthesia, blood clots and/ or pneumonia. As for afterwards.. why would you want too? We all know that smoking pot leads to the munchies sooner or later.. why risk throwing up, going through the dumping syndrome or doing something worse to yourself by smoking it?. If you are going to put your body through a major surgery like this, why wouldn't you help yourself to become the healthiest it can be and just stay away from the drugs??

You sound like you are leaving us.. don't leave... now more than ever you need our support and we need you too! I just got news that my insurance company is requiring me to do an extra 2 months in the program I am in, before they will even consider paying for the surgery. Which is frustrating and devastating as well, but for me, I am just going to push through it, eat healthier and get a better exercise regime in place. I hope you'll stay with us..

I don't have that exact thing happening, but did have my insurance initially say that I had no pre reqs for the surgery , it just needed to be medically necessary, which it is.. and now they say they won't approve for another 2 - 3 months.. I am already 2.5 months into the whole process.. a bit frustrating.

How heart breaking to hear, Misty. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in this time of sorrow.

I have already started an exercise regime and haven't had the surgery yet. I find that the Fitbit helps me stay accountable for the number of steps I should take on a daily basis (about 10,000) and am going to go to the local YMCA that has exercise classes for patients that are pre and post bariatric surgery and do an exercise class twice a week and walk 3 -4 times a week,

Pre Operative Educational Workshops
oweemytoe posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had my first 2 hour pre op educational workshop last night. I have to go to a total of 3 workshops prior to surgery. It was an interesting mix of men and women and people having RNY and the Sleeve. I can't say that I learned anymore than I have already learned from this site and from my surgical binder, but it was informative and I got to hear other people's stories. I also have homework!! Lol, some of it is easy, like read this article , track your food and exercise for 3 days, the harder one is 4 pages of questions that are factual, not how you feel. We also had to set a food goal for the week. Mine is to try to sip Water throughout the day instead of gulping it down when I am thirsty and we had to start taking our Vitamins. Oh and we got a list of the post op support groups. I am going to go to the next one on July 26th called "Divorcing your Food Addictions". I was hoping to meet someone local so that I could have a buddy to go through the process with and to exercise with, but I don't think that will happen as we don't live near each other. I did tell everyone about this site though and how wonderful it is with the information and the support and that it is extremely user friendly. Does or did anyone else have to go through pre op educational workshops? -
No worries, we won't judge you as we have all been there. When it comes time for my pre op diet, I am not going to eat dinner with my family, the solid food would just make me hungry and the temptation to cheat would be too high. Are you getting enough Protein? That would be my main concern, as Protein shakes should hold you for awhile if the protein level is high enough and are you drinking enough of them?. A lot of what you are feeling (wanting to rip someone's face off..etc) is also your body's way of dealing with the food addiction, you are most likely going through withdrawals of not having sweets or carbs or whatever you are addicted too.

Good luck with your surgery today! Everything will go smoothly!!

how many buy threw Bariatric Advantage?
oweemytoe replied to hcabrooks197's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I buy the chewable calcium citrate through them. It resembles a chewy caramel square and is quite tasty and sugar free -
I got the Calcium Citrate from Bariatric Advantage, they are sugar free and very tasty. I got caramel flavor and not chalky at all.
