Anyone wear a medical id bracelet?

For the do-it yourselfers, I just ordered a tag from: www.DiabeticDrugStore.com. I put my name, see card in wallet, Lap Band Patient and a medication allergy on mine. I"m going to make a few different bracelets for mine. I like doing stuff like that. Just another idea, Cindy

    Can we carry a card?

That's fantastic! I know I'm in lap band boot camp, but I like to think of the days ahead when I can enjoy some solid food, and I even though I do not often eat out, I enjoy it when I get the chance! I have a friend with celiac disease, and we've found the restaurants to be really agreeable about helping her order.

    Can we carry a card?

So, how does it go when you show it to the wiater/waitress? Are the restaurants very willing to make adjustments in portions or price? Any stories? And thanks for all the great feedback...I love learning here! Cindy

    just curious

Barbara, how great to be sitting around the pool with other "lapdancers" (what my husband fondly refers to us as!). I wouldn't be comfortable at all with the situation you described at your local hospital, and Mexico sounds great from all the posts I've read! Cindy

    July 2005 band dates????

Do you mind my asking your age? I teach high school kids, and love them...not in a weird way, of course!:alien I just think kids (young adults?) are cool! I guess I'd have to...I've been teaching 27 years, and about to start my 28th!

Justbeingme, thanks for adding your story. I had never considered the age restriction...just the cost. I am glad you added your situation to the mix. I wish you all the best...you must be excited! Cindy

    I finally got a date!!!

Best of luck to you! I am a teacher, too, and was thrilled to get everything arranged for surgery on the 22nd...that gives me 2 weeks. We start Aug. 8. I don't mind that start date, as long as we don't lose our breaks at the holidays...that would really stink! Where is La Porte? Again, good luck! Cindy

    Can we carry a card?

Hey, you're right...I did get a couple of cards like that in my packet at the seminar! I think I'll get them laminated, so they hold up longer. Has anyone tried using them at a restaurant? Thanks everyone! Cindy

    Questions for the experienced!

Thanks to everyone...I continue to take advice. I"ll look at Walgreens for theTylenol Sore Throat...I bought some children's, just thought I'd multiply the dose a little, but that's a big pain in the you know what. Thanks everyone!

    just curious

I don't know as much about this as the others probably do, but basically, there are still quite a few insurance companies who do not pay for bariatric surgery...the company might, but the individual plan may have it as an exclusion. It seems to be changing, though. Which answers your other question, I think people go out of the country because it costs less...but I may be wrong on that. Please, if someone knows more, I will hold no offense if I'm corrected. Congrats on your band! I'm one of the lucky ones who had no problem with my insurance...surgery a week from tomorrow, 7/22. Cindy

    July 2005 band dates????

Hi Bonnie! Nice to meet you! I've learned lots from reading everything on these boards! Now, I have to admit sometimes I forget what I've read, but these nice people are willing to repeat it, thank goodness! Good luck! Cindy

    size 18!!!

I know the thrill you feel, but it's been quite a while for me, too. I wear a 24, well most of the time, and I am way too close to 26. Aside from being able to walk without pain, going down to the "teens" in sizing is my most anticipated goal! CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Cindy

    UK Bombings

I was far away in Texas on 9/11, but it was a life-changing and eye-opening experience for me. My sympathies to the dead and injured and their families. Please continue to support our troops AND their mission. America must be the the "go-to" country to help end terrorism, wherever it is being encouraged and supported. I submit my opinion respectfully, for I know there might be some disagreement on this subject.

    July 2005 band dates????

I was told my insurance has approved the surgery (yeah!), so I had good news in the midst of my mom's passing last week. My date, not absolute, is July 22! I meet with the surgeon on Tuesday, and do some of the preop tests Monday with my regular dr.!

what insurance co's pay for the band?

Hi! I found this info on a Dallas area bariatric surgery website: http://www.bscdallas.com/insurance.html Perhaps it will help, but like Soonergirl says, it all depends on the policy... Good luck! Cindy

    July 2005 band dates????

I hope to be...I will keep an eye on this thread and add a date if it gets set. goodluck to all of you! Cindy
  21. I'm getting all my ducks in row to be approved for the band...surgeon's office said I could go ahead and set up the psych. eval. Just wondering what is involved in that? A questionairre? A discussion? I would imagine I'd have to put words to my problems with food...or rather, why food and I are such good friends! Would anyone like to tell me about their psych eval, and was everyone required to do one? Thanks as always, Cindy
  22. mousecrazy

    What about the psych. eval...?

Thanks everyone! I feel much better informed about this now...I guess I better call and get an appt., just in case mine is one of those bajillion page ones...maybe they can mail it to me before I go!

    New Surgical Center in Hurst

Hi, Patty! I guess I'll probably see you on the 13th. Vicky at Dr. Marsden's office said if your place wasn't "in network" for me, they would do something so I am not penalized. Do you know what that means? I've heard great things about your center...how many surgeries (lapband) are done each day? Thanks, Cindy
  24. Is it common practice to get appetite suppressants after band surgery? No one's mentioned it before...remember, I'm really new, so if this is something everyone knows, I am ready to be informed! Congrats on how well you are doing! Cindy
