    What is your food weakness?...

Definitely, my biggest food weakness is ice cream. Confession: before banding, I ate probably 2 cups every night! And I'd throw in a Sonic Blast (ice cream blended with M&Ms) about 3-4 times a week, if possible! The other weakness was bowls--huge bowls--of cereal. Now, if I eat cereal at all, it's about 10 Frosted mini-wheats in a little tiny bowl I used to serve condiments like pickles or something in! What a difference! I have eaten ice cream since the band, but it's like a 1/2 cup...and I'm satisfied! What a concept! Cindy

  4. Hi Anne, I think everyone has said all the good stuff, so that leaves me with the gentle pats and a big hug for you. Getting the lap band is just the first step to help us with our food issues. Now, there's a long journey ahead. Let's find joy in the journey, keep after it, and claim victory in the end! I just know you'll find the right things to do. Blessings, Cindy

I Made It Through My First Fill - Barely

Hi, I had my first fill yesterday...they put in .5cc. After reading other posts, I know it could take a few weeks for it to kick in. I just ate some mushy food today, and I have noticed that I am feeling fuller longer than I was without the fill, and that's great for me! Cindy

out of network after the fact

I don't know if this helps, but my surgery center was out of network. When I asked about the insurance payment on it, they told me they would accept the in-network allowance, and not penalize me for it. Maybe this is the same for you. Good luck! Cindy

    Too Big in Texas!

Hi Spydr...is that "spider" or spy doctor? I'm in Texas, too....ask all the questions you want, someone will know the answer. What part of Texas? Glad to have you around, Cindy

    Rollercoaster

Hey, Kathy, did you live in Dallas, or just visiting? There is a club called Trees and lotf of pretty good alternative bands play there. I spent more time than I care to mention there, before I got married 9 years ago...Ohio Players performed at a club called Club Clearview.

    Joining the hyster sisterhood

Hi, Zoe, I had a hysterectomy in Nov. 03. I was 48 when I had it, but for a different reason than yours...I found a website that helped answer a lot of my questions called Hystersisters.com There are lots of versions of hysterectomies, and different methods, too. Mine was vaginal, left the ovaries, plus a bladder sling and assorted other procedures not to fun to talk about. I was off work for 6 weeks, but I felt lots better after 3. Try to find the Hystersister website; nice people there. Cindy

    Does everyone take vitamins?

From some advice I received here, I found Source of Life liquid multivitamin. It's kinda tangy, but not gross. Easy to take. I would like to say I take it eachand every day, but I hae forgotten several times.

    sugar free or fat free?

Everyone has different reasons they eat, different foods they like and don't like, different body chemisty...what I'm getting at is do what is good for you. You did a good thing in altering your choice of what ice cream you would eat, or how much you would eat....be proud of yourself for that! All these little decisions will add up to the result you want. I've been trying to act like a normal eater! They don't stress and worry about every bite they put in t heir mouth. They just make healthy choices about 80% of the time, and they don't hae 6 servings of ice cream when 1 is sufficient. It's weird, but kinda fun to act normal about food! Cindy

    Rollercoaster

Ohio Players! I actually saw them live at a small venue in Deep Ellum, which is in Dallas. That was probably about 15 years ago...of course, the song is a bit older than that. Thanks for the rewind! Cindy
  15. Good job! Take it nice and slow and let yourself heal. Glad you are doing well. Cindy

    For struggling new bandsters

I'm a newbie, and haven't had a fill yet, but will on Thursday. I love being reminded of the rules and feel fortunate to have the kind of people on the board who are willing to say the hard things, in a firm and caring way, so we don't lose our way and our focus. Thank you. Cindy

    Have you motivated others?

Time will tell...I have had LOTS of questions come my way....I am very open about my surgery so I guess I make it easy for people to ask me about it.

    Protein Bars and protein

I love the Unjury products, especially the unflavored, and someone has already sent you the link. I like the Zone Perfect bars, the EAS bars, Atkins CarbAdvantage shakes, Body for Life shakes (EAS also). Some of them are very dense and require lots of chewing, but that can be a good thing! I feel sure you can find whatever you need online, somewhere! Cindy
  21. Just want to say hi, and welcome you to a great site! I think it's great that there are so many of you from Australia! I learned a lot reading everything here, and I still continue to learn. If you have questions, just ask. Someone around here will know something about it! Good luck! Cindy

    calories and caloric breakdown

Hi, bandbuddy! I was banded the same day as you were, and I have lost 26 official pounds, which I count from my surgical consult on 7-13. I had lost a few from my highest ever before that. YOU ARE DOING GREAT! I am writing to let you know that I had a week where my weight went up and down the same 5 lbs, just as you described. It is frustrating, but I told myself my body needed to catch up, which I believe is the case. I was also keeping my calories down, and consciously jacked them up a little after reading that weight loss can be slowed with very low caloric intake. I keep my calories between 800-1300. Usually never make it to 1300, but on occasion I have. My average is more like 900-1000. I use fitday.com, too...I really appreciate all the reports it gives you, and that you can enter custom foods in. After that up and down stuck kinda week, I started losing again. I get a fill next week, Thursday, when's yours? Good to hear from you, Cindy

    Hi all

Hi Teri! You will find pretty much all the answers in the website...use the search feature as a first step. My insurance co. covered my band at 70%, without a lot of hoop jumping, either. Other co.'s are different; so start with a search on "insurance." I got started with a rec. from an orthopedic surgeon...referred to a surgeon for the lapband, talked to their office, filled out all the paperwork for the insurance co., went to a seminar, went to a consultation, had some pre-op tests done, scheduled the lap band surgery and voila! It took about a month, maybe a little over, from when I started, to when I had my surgey. That seems pretty quick; others took lots longer. Keep reading everything you can find, learn about the advantages, the problems, etc., and you'll be on your way, if you decide it's right for you. Glad to have you around! Cindy
