'Hostage situation' portrays killers as Christians

I agree. I believe that was Leatha's point...it's the "acceptable" politically correct target of bigotry these days.

'Hostage situation' portrays killers as Christians

I have not researched this, but I bet someone will (or has...or will want to): How many people have been killed in right-wing bomber attacks on abortion clinics? How many people have been killed when "things have been blown up" in the name of Allah? I am not seeing the equivalency.

Thank you, green. It is so refreshing to find rational thought.

I've never been in the summer, so I'll probaby faint! I enjoy Christmas there. But, it's something new, and the cruise will be different, too. How's Abi doing this week? If I don't answer right back, it's cuz I have to take Hay to choir... Hugs!

When the truth is inconvenient . . .

Some of us are roughly in the same age bracket...does anyone know how our push to remove flouro-carbons from hairspray and deoderant impacted the environment. I so clearly remember the beginning of Earth Day...well, maybe not all that clearly, but somewhere around the age of 13 or so. We were going to save the world and clean it up, and one of the first things to do was get rid of that spray deoderant. Was that the culprit? If so, shouldn't things be improved? No one uses spray deoderant anymore, do they? That said, I do enjoy the personal challenge of keeping power cost low, and also compost for the yard/garden...the computers probably suck the most power around here (in more ways than one!) :heh:

Phooey. Just hoping you were planning the trip for this summer...but any trip to the World is a great trip! I love planning them almost as much as going there!

Welcome to you new gals! As an intro to you, I live in Texas, in the Denton area. Mandy, I'll be in the World June 15-20, then on the DCL from 21-24. When are you goin? Get a swimsuit girl...even I have a suit and am braving it by going to Blizzard Beach this trip! Cellulite, flappy arms and all. Power to the people! LOL! Or, as Eileen would say....WTF? No one's really lookin' anyways.

Another good point, Leatha. I do think that expecting something near perfection out of anybody is a recipe for living a life of disappointment... Hmmmmmm.
  10. Hopefully, your PB's will be very few! I've made it a goal for myself. I've had some "golfballs" but no PBs and I hope it stays that way. If I eat too fast, or too big of bites, or don't chew well...that's the "golfball" feeling time! Bandster life is one of imposed discipline in many ways, which I have welcomed.

    What is a good reply?

That's a great point, Jack...I've noticed in gatherings now that I spend more time actually engaged with people, instead of circling the table like a shark! LOL!

    Positive..what can you do now?

Thanks! There are sooo many inspirations around here! I hope some more of them see your post and write in response! You remind me of those early days, waiting on my surgery...my BMI was 45. I think it's now 34 or something....maybe less. I'm still officially overweight, but I've gone from a size 26 to a size 16 (sometimes 18, you know how it is!). I couldn't even imagine going below the 20s in size! but, here I am, doing just that....and I'm still losing. It's slow, but it's worth it!

    Positive..what can you do now?

One of my favorite topics! I can walk long distances without hurting as much. I have some tendon problems in my ankles, undoubtedly from too many years of too much weight. But the improvement is remarkable! I can bend over and pick up stuff without thinking I'm going to pass out! I can fit comfortably in an airline seat, and buckle the seatbelt! That goes for amusement park rides, too! My blood work levels are all in the "optimal" range...and that's going from levels that were once alarming and dangerous and indicated future heart problems. For example, I had trigylceride levels over 500, and now they are 128. My list is soooooo long...and I know everyone who has lost a good deal of weight has lists like this! It doesn't happen overnight, but it will happen!

    What is a good reply?

Tell everyone to calm down! I still go out to eat, and eat most of the same foods as everyone else. No matter where we choose to eat, I can find something on the menu. I even go to buffets! I just don't pigout anymore! I hope you can trust me on this...I do remember wondering the very same thing before my surgery. I couldn't imagine what the future held...but it's a year and half now, and my life is simply better. I go to Italian, Chinese, Mexican, BBQ....family dinners, school picnics with my DD, EVERYTHING! I just choose what I can eat (and that's very individual, and you'll figure that out as you go), and I don't talk about it incessantly, or even tell everybody about it. Most people know I am banded, but it's not like I tell the stranger next to me in the buffet line, "I'm not piling my plate 4 inches high with food because I have a lapband." LOL! So, relax...you'll still enjoy your social life, and if you loved cooking and entertaining, you still will. I love cooking just as much as ever! Hope this helps you...and reassures your family. Good luck! Cindy

When the truth is inconvenient . . .

Once again, whether it is considered merely ironic or clearly hypocritical, the idea of double standards does seem to exist. If not that, then it's just Bush-hatred again. Or, it could be ignorance of Gore's background? The point of the original post is not how many houses, or how big the houses are, or who the parents are or how much assistance in the children's success the parents gave...it is the media exposure to the TRUTH...thus, the "inconvenient truth" phrase. Also, it is the arrogance of taking a message to the public without the ability to self-examine...can you not look at your life and lifestyle and think that it might not be examined and found somehow to be coming up a little short in the "role model" department as measured to your message? This is something that is hammered at time aftr time in people delivering other messages, specifically religious ones; when they fall short of their messages, the media absolutely delights in pointing that out. Why the double standard? Is it so difficult to even think about this, or do you have to buy the Gore message hook, line, and sinker...and hold him unaccountable?

When the truth is inconvenient . . .

Hey, I don't care HOW MUCH power people use; just don't tell me how much to use. And don't try to sell me that poopie about carbon offsets. My moderate home houses an office also...of course, I drive a regular car and don't have to fly around in jets or use security. If you need that kind of thing, by all means, use it. But, dang it, don't be so preachy to the rest of us, when all you are doing to change your own personal lifestyle is...oh yeah, those carbon offsets. I do guess I qualify as a "right-winger" or a "right thinker" and I think I have those figured out. I think I've said this before, but I rather admire and enjoy rich people. More power to those who can own vacation homes and jets. Enjoy them...don't assuage your guilt about it by telling the little people to turn off their lights, sell their SUVs and buy curly light bulbs. (Personally, I like the curly lightbulbs, but I'd like to decide that for myself.)

Game results: DD's team won, 11-2. She got her first RBI, too! She was out at first, but got one of her teammates across the plate for a score! She had fun, which is the most important part! And she looks cute with her little ponytail sticking out of her baseball cap! Awwwwww. I have to pinch myself sometimes. Where' that baby? She was here a few days ago....

    Hello from Texas!

Welcome to Bandland and LBT! Very nice people here...LOTS of info and support. I have not one minute ever regretted my decision to have lapband surgery! Hands down, one of the very best decisions regarding my health I have ever made. Good luck to you, and hope to see you often here! I'm in the Denton area...another Texan! Cindy

Road Trip! I'm up for it, schedule allowing. Definitely run it by me, and I'll do my best! That would be a blast! I get to go to DD's first ever softball game today, if it doesn't rain out. It will be full of fun, I'm sure! I just wish we didn't have to drive down to the big city to go to her away games... Pat, sorry about the lost post. That is the biggest URRRGGGHH of all times! See ya'll later... Cindy

Hi gals! Poor Pat with your back! You've gotta get better so you can ride your Harley...Betty, too! We've gotta get our Harley girls back on the road! Dianne, I don't think it's a good idea to let the patients dictate the conditions of the meeting. If I was in your shoes, I would go. You will be the one shouldering the responsibility of the decisions made there, for the most part. 'Nuf said, I think. Beanie, what is the plan with I20 and Kat? Did I miss a post? Eileen, yippee! Friday off! What are you doing for Easter? We're doing the normal getting the whole family together for brunch kinda thing. Today, I finally found a jacket to go with a skirt I already had, so I have my "Easter dress". I guess that's all for now.. Hi, Patty! Still sending prayers your way! Hi, Darcy! My miles for March are 68...not as good as last month, but still moving! Hugs, Cindy

I don't why I never remember it's a new month! I'd probably still be posting in December if left to my own devices...LOL! Dianne, you are doing great to be getting around as much as you are! Do get your rest, though...you are still recovering from big deal surgery! Sherry, you sure are a busy one! Eileen, HUGS girl. I know that feeling...there is only one thing to do, shed a tear and tell your friends, and the day passes. I am too new to the major grief recovery to be a big help, but Betty has helped me in the past year and a half, and she's here by your side today, too. ((Big hug)) DD decided to make a fancy meal tonight, which means I did a lot of the work, but she bossed me around. She planned the menu: smoothies, salad, crabcakes, and chess pie. The crabcakes were delicious! I can only eat one...she had FOUR! It's bedtime, and I've gotta get going...I'll visit longer tomorrow. Nighty night! Cindy
  24. I chose "wouldn't affect my vote" because I was not going to vote for Edwards anyway, which should not be a big surprise to anyone. I do pray for Mrs. Edwards and the family as they face the continued battle with cancer. My heart goes out to them.
