  1. Anyone familiar with Medcost? Is there an average everyone is paying out of pocket for the actual surgery?

    Is this weird?!?

Hi..I am also getting sleeved May 4th with no pre op diet...just liquids the day before and caffeine free by the week before surgery.

    50 shades of Grey

The book was ok..the movie was dull. I fell asleep...the 3rd book is my fav.
  6. My psych evaluation in on Monday...what should I expect? I have never seen a psychiatrist before?
  7. Thanks to all who replied... that was not bad at all. Had to take 3 test about 200 questions total. Psychiatrist said I am a great candidate for WLS! Glad that is over....it was the last task I had to complete for insurance submission.
  8. I had my first visit Feb.16th and have gained 5 lbs since. I have been over indulging in all the things that I know I shouldn't be eating after surgery. My doc does not require a pre op diet other than clear liquids the day before, but does want to see some weight loss. I feel doomed....I am getting on track this week. Baby steps is what my nutritionist recommend. ..so first step I am taking is no soda. Pray for me..or ayye more so my family. .
  9. To all the VSG vets out there..I am curious about your daily routines. What is a typical breakfast, lunch, or dinner? How many "drinks" did you have on New Year's? What did you eat at your best friend's baby shower, Christmas, or Thanksgiving? I want to get a true idea of what life is like after the "honeymoon" phase. Of course I don't expect everyone to answer all of those...but hoping for a variety of answers from several veterans.
  10. @ Cowgirl Jane I love this perspective....I will definitely start paying more attention to how my fit family and friends eat. Never thought of it that way.
  11. Thanks yall....makes be feel better.
  12. @Bufflehead..I think what I am so stressed about is hearing you all talk about eating so healthy...and knowing how hard that is for me. It is so hard to imagine a surgery that can make me eat the way you all describe.
  13. Hi, I am new here..just getting the ball rolling for surgery. I have a ton of fears, and I have found that they change from day to day. I guess today I am on..the fear of not being able to make a true lifestyle change. If I could stick to eating healthy and exercising I would not be in the position to need WLS. I am afraid of failing as I have with every other diet I have tried over the years. At my first appointment I was handed a list of changes to make prior to surgery....the usual...low carbs, no sugar, no soda, high protein. I almost laughed...people...if it were that easy I would not be standing here at 275lbs! How do you all make the lifestyle changes permanent?
  14. @@Rogofulm I hope you hang onto that article do you can post it for me....when I get to that stage.
  15. I am pre op..and I understand ay this point that this is probably going to be one of the hardest things I will ever do....but to those who think it is so easy and say dumb things.... if it was the easy way out why not take it?? If it was easy everyone would be doing it. .

    Pre op worries

@@Onyx999 I personally am getting the gastric sleeve because it seems a bit more "simple" and my surgeon thought it would be best for me. However, your situation may be different....you need to discuss that with your physician and decide based on what your goals are. And I understand missing out on life....I became over weight during pregnancy and went into a deep depression. It wasn't until I turned 30 that I realized I could live a full life being overweight. Now, I am on the verge of turning 35 and feel the complications of the weight...knee and back pain, high cholesterol, short of breath, now I want to get healthy so I don't end up with chronic health problems. We all have our fears and doubts somewhere along the road. I am here for you anytime you need to talk...today I am confident and feeling great about the idea of WLS....but tomorrow I just might be flipping out again. ??? It is a true roller-coaster ride.

    Pre op worries

I am still in the pre op phase myself and have my own set of worries as a 34 yr old...but I will say....I have a good friend who had the surgery over 5 yrs ago, she seems to live a very normal life. Basically she eats what she wants, jus not a full portion size..I have seen her have a glass of wine at a dinner party. she has also maintained her weight loss (100lbs) very well. She looks amazing! I have asked her several times if she would do it again and her answer is always the same...."without a doubt".
  19. I am still in the pre op phase..but honestly it has all been hard, waiting for all the different appts, the money I have put out so far, (and so much more to go) other's opinion ' s , hearing people tell me I am not big enough to need surgery, the thoughts of loose skin, hair loss, relationship challenges, ALL of it is HARD. But that's why I am here to get the support that I need to get through it all and so far it has been a huge blessing. I hope you find support and comfort within the community as I have.
  20. Sorry I don't have any advice for you. But, I share the same feelings. It is great that we can get healthy and feel better...but it seems that we will still suffer from "hiding" our bodies and feeling less than normal.

    Biggest Fears

Thanks..your advice is always welcome here..
  22. I so understand your fears. I started the VSG journey last July and then completely freaked out and stopped the process. In Feb. I started the process over and I am already freaking out again. I also love food and almost get sad thinking about not being able to sit down with a carton of Edys and devouring the entire thing. I realize this is why I am in the position to need WLS. The sagging skin thing is probably the biggest reason I halted the first go round. I am horrified it!
