    Tufts health plan

Tufts approved my surgery but it was a 6 month waiting period. 1 month to submit (started April 1st with my PHP submission to Tufts) another 3 - 4 weeks before the mandatory 6 month counseling phone calls started. 4/29 was my first available phone call with the "I Can Change Program" then once you reach the last phone call it takes a few days for the approval to go through. My last call was on 10/29 and my surgery date was 11/12 (I booked in Sept with my bariatric surgeon). I wanted to heal before the snow fell to shovel here in the northeast - and so far no accumulating snow since before Thanksgiving. I should be in the clear to lift after I go for my post-op follow-up visit next week.
  2. Hi, I live about 45 minutes away from Nashua in North - Central, MA. area. I was sleeved on 11/12 at Emerson Hospital in Concord, MA. Everything is going fine for me after surgery but waiting for the big day was a long process due to a 6 month waiting requirement from my provider Tufts. My advice is to keep on track with the program at LGH and their staff, attend any support meetings they offer and feel free to message me with any questions.

    Numbness after surgery?

Hi - I just wanted to share my situation since it is so similar. I also was sleeved on 11/12 and have pain and numbness in my left thigh especially at night preventing my sleeping for more that a few hrs at a time. I am not a doctor but suspect this pain is from one of the Heprin (blood thinner) shots I received in the thigh every 6 hrs while in the hospital. The needle for the shot is small and acording to my sister who is a nurse it is not supposed to go deep enough to hit a small nerve (peripheral nerve) but I believe in my case one of these shots did. It felt like an electric shock. I suspect it is a peripheral nerve since as it is above my knee to mid-thigh área and the pain does not travel as if were a larger nerve like sciática, I hope the damaged nerve will regenerate in a few months. I have asked my dr for a prescriptión lidocaine patch as I have been using over the counter pain Patches from the drug store since surgery. They help but are not strong enough. I go back to work tomorrow and need the lidocaine patch prescriptión filled (still pending approval from my healthcare provider) as I can't afford to miss any more sleep.
  4. I am scheduled on Wednesday 11/12 too. I don't know what time yet as the surgeon's office calls a few days in advance to confirm. I will pack next weekend. They advised make sure you wear something loose to and from surgery. Pre-op diet is going well. I have plenty of sugar free Jello, broth and herbal tea to curb my appetite in between 2 shakes and one small low carb meal at night. I have a variety of proteín shakes to mix up the flavors so it's not boring. EAS vanilla, Premier Protein chocolate, and GNC Lean Shakes strawberry and Orange. I hope my taste buds agree with these after surgery...
