I'm almost 2 years post-op (Dec'14) and had Gastroparesis before my surgery. Once I recovered, the Gastroparesis was gone - yay! However, the past month or so I've noticed some of the symptoms I had before - the pain, bloating, nausea, constipation, etc. I have also gained 25 lbs in less than 2 months and have been swollen everywhere. I saw my surgeon today and he is going to do an upper GI, but he mentioned it could be Gastroparesis rearing its head again. I thought the part of the stomach that causes it was removed? Has anyone else had Gastroparesis return? If so, how did you treat it - same as before, or another surgery?

I was sleeved Dec 2014. I made excellent progress, starting weight 235, lowest was 153. My goal is 145. The problem is I've been stuck in a holding pattern for about 4-5 months! I've even started gaining a few pounds back. I've gone back to being extremely mindful of my Protein intake, etc, but it doesn't seem to be helping. I hate to have worked so hard and fall just short of my goal - or worse yet, undo all of the progress! Any suggestions?

I was sleeved on 12/8 and have lost 33 pounds. I know stalls happen and are normal, but TWO months? Seriously? I'm getting my Protein and Water, watching carbs and nothing is moving. I've even stopped seeing a change in clothes and other NSVs. I'm tapering off Cymbalta and to offset the horrible withdrawals, my Dr put me on Prozac until I'm off Cymbalya completely. Since then, I have been insanely hungry and it's been super hard not to graze. When I do, I try to make sure I'm eating some turkey or a cheese stick, even a few almonds. I also tore the meniscus in my right knee and haven't been able to excercise. I'm having surgery on it in 2 weeks, so it'll be even longer before I can start working out again. It's like a perfect storm of road blocks and it's SO hard not to get frustrated and feel like I'm failing this great opportunity.

I'm eating around 800-850 calories a day. I try to limit carbs to 25ish and get 65-85g of protein a day.

I was sleeved on 12/8 and have only lost 22 lbs since the surgery. I hit the dreaded 3 week stall, but it last for FOUR FLIPPING WEEKS! It finally broke and I lost 3 more lbs in 2 weeks. Now I'm in the midst of another 1 week stall. I knew to expect the first stall, but is the second one so close normal? I know it's not productive to compare myself to others, but I really am getting discouraged that I haven't lost more by this point. I'm getting my Protein & Water, watching my carbs and get about 800-900 calories a day. I'm also working out about 3 times a week. UGH!!!

No Energy 3 weeks post sleeve surgery

I was the same way, but I had some bloodwork done about 4 weeks post-op showed I was severely iron-deficient. I started on iron supplements and verrrrry tender red meat. It was amazing what a difference a week made! -
What do you recommend? Is there one brand better than others? I've been using the Bariatric Advantage, but they're huge and expensive!

I was prescribed gabapentin for small fiber neuropathy. Since i wasn't able to take it, my rheumatologist put me on Alpha Lipoic acid - it has made a world of difference with no side effects! You can get it at your vitamin shop or places like Whole Foods. -

Oy. Amitripyline is the devil. So are gabapentin & Lyrica. I gained 35 lbs on Lyrica. Hated it. I totally understand where you're coming from and I hate that you're going through this! I'm currently on Cymbalta, Flexeril, methotrexate and Humira, in addition to several others. I'd love to be off all of them, but mainly Cymbalta. The withdrawals were excruciating! I don't think it's really helping me, I'm just to scared to try to get off of it again. ???? We underwent these procedures to better our health and out quality of life, but all these damn meds are standing in the way of that happening. Sending good thoughts to all of you! -
Sleeved 12/8 and I've only lost 25 post op. Most of that was the first 2 weeks. This stall is going on about 5 weeks. I've lost 1 or 2 here and there, but then I gained it back. I'm getting 75-80 grams of protein, plenty of water, watching my carbs, and I'm working out. I know stalls are normal, but seriously - FIVE WEEKS?! I'm trying my best not to get discouraged, but it's not going so well. When can I realistically start seeing some weight loss?

This stall is kicking my butt!

To give y'all an update, I spoke to my surgeon's nurse practitioner. We went over a typical day's menu and she gave me some suggestions. While I'm getting enough Protein for the whole day, I'm not getting enough first thing in the morning to kick-start my metabolism. Also, I thought I was doing well with my carbs - 50ish - she recommended I try to stay below 40. So...fingers crossed just making a few simple changes will get me out of this stall from hell! -

I am so glad to see your post. I also have Fibro, as well as several autoimmune diseases. I'm on so many flipping meds that I have to keep them on a spreadsheet. I know without a doubt most, if not all, of the meds have either put the weight on or made it dang near impossible to get off. I was sleeved on 12/8 and am in the midst of a 5 week stall. I'm wondering if it's not the meds that are contributing to the slow loss. My goal with the sleeve was to eventually be able to wean off of some of the meds and hopefully be able to better cope with all of my symptoms. May I ask which med you eliminated? The one that I suspect is giving me the most fits is Cymbalta. It is AWFUL to come off of. I've tried to twice and I just don't know if I could handle it a third time. But, if there's light at the end of the tunnel, I may have to just suck it up and try again to taper off it. I wholeheartedly second the suggestion for aqua therapy. I can barely walk on the treadmill for 20 minutes, but I can walk laps in the pool for almost an hour. It's so much easier on the joints. I had knee surgery in July and it actually feels good to walk in the pool. Now trust me, I can totally relate with the pain of just getting out of bed in the morning. I get it. But the pool is the one place I feel I can truly move and not go into a crazy flare afterword. Good luck to you! Keep up the good work! -

My sodium has always been in line, I've got HBP in my family, so I've always been careful of sodium intake. Now- my bowels on the other hand...I was AWFUL constipated for about 2 weeks, then finally all the Smooth Move tea, colace, and Milk of Magnesium decided to do their thing just this week. I had bloodwork drawn a couple of weeks ago and I'm still waiting for results, but they did tell me I was Iron deficient. So I started taking supplements. I'm going to call my Dr tomorrow. This is just driving me crazy! -

The past few days, any time I drink Water, it makes me nauseous. I was sleeved on 12/8. I've been able to meet my water goals until these few days. I can drink hot tea and Protein shakes just fine, it's only water that does it. Any ideas? Will it get better - I've always been a huge water drinker, so this is pretty frustrating.

I'm about 3 1/2 weeks post op and just started my soft foods/puréed stage last week. Should I be concerned that I'm only getting about 750-800 calories a day? That doesn't seem like enough. But if I eat any more, I'm miserable. I haven't had a problem getting my Protein or Water, though. I've also been walking about a mile 4 times a week.

Water is making me nauseous. WTH?!

I've been adding lemon and have gone back to sipping like right after surgery. So far, so good. It's gonna be hard for me to make my goal today, though! Thanks for asking! ????
