How do you get a dr. to approve surgery????
Mscas3 replied to MariMari's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi, I got my HMO to approve it but I had to have the referral from my general Dr. and he had to relate it ti my health issues. It took a while (2 years) but all I had to pay was $500 in the end! I have hyper tension and other issues because of weight. I also had to prove that I have tried to lose weight and was not able to keep it off. Also I was getting depressed about my weight. Godd luck and I hope it all works out! -
Hi All, Just got banded on 10/30/07. Feeling pretty good but sore and trying to figure out what normal will be with my band! I had my surgery at BIMC with Dr. Daniel Jones. Things went very well and I am back to work on Monday. Looking forward to some support groups where do I find out about them?

Welcome! It took me two years to get my done (banded on 10/30/07) Some of that was because I was not sure and some because I had to wait to hear from my insurance company. In the end they paid all except for $500. The more your Dr. can connect problems of health to your weight the better your chances of getting approved. I did not have to do 6 months of diers because I already proved that I had tried to lose weight and would but kept putting it back on! I did have to lose 10 lbs before the surgery (makes it easier to work around the liver). Good luck and hang in there it will happen before you know it:clap2:!

My nurse made me feel like a failure and a PIG
Mscas3 replied to kbear's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bad, bad nurse!:bandit -
I have the rumbling stomach and scared to eat. It has only been a few days and I am still very sore. Not such if the sounds from my stomach are hunger noises or the swelling going down. I am trying to stay on the liquids but ate some chicken soup and so far so good. I kno wthis stage will pass and I will feel better. Right now I just want to feel normal?!?!? and don't know what normal will be with the band!:help:

Gina Glad she at least came to see and try to make amends. Sometime it is not what people say but how they look at you! What took meover the edge is the way my mother would look at me as if I were some unattractive monster that just let myself get like this. She often asked how did I let myself get like this. If I knew the answer to that I would not look like this!! Anyway I am banded now and will work hard with this to change for me because it is important to me! Hang in there all!

Hi All, Just got banded on 10/30/07. Was doing great then all of sudden started feeling a little down:confused:. I am trying to get in all the requirements I need and making sure I keep drinking plenty of water but today is a little tougher. I am still happy I did it and know it will get better but feeling a little blue today. I went for a small walk yesterday and that helped. I think I'll treat myself to some orange juice this morning. Glad to hear everyone is doing well!

cheating on PREOP DIET
Mscas3 replied to Traceysfree's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did not stick as well to the pre-op diet. I don't think it made a big difference. So far I am okay a little sore but don't think that had to do with the pre-op diet. Try to hang in there I will say having done the liquids before the surgery is helping me now. All I can do is liquids. Good luck and hang in there! -
Well it finally happened! I got my band on Tuesday and so far so good. I am a little sore and finding it harder to get around than I thought. Some gas but I am moving to get that up and out. It is hard to sip but I am doing it. Ate some liquified chicken soup and so far so good. It is only day three and hope I can keep the variety in my diet. Any recipes for mush and slush food please share. Thanks for all the advice before surgery it helped and I made it so far!

Thanks! Your words helped a lot.

My date is quickly approaching and I have some of the same feeling. October 30th is the date and I can't believe it is only two days away. We will be fine and from hanging out here with all the support and information everyone shares I know it will be okay. I think our feelings are very normal. But we know this is safer than keeping on the weight. We will be healthy and happier after it is done. I'm scared too but I feel this is the best thing for a healthier, thinner and longer life! Let us know (and I will do the same) how it goes on Tuesday!:rolleyes

I agree the special K only had 10 grams of protien, did not seem like enough for the calories. I tried Cytsport Protien drinkk. It has 40 grams of protien and is only 160 claories and 0g carbs and sugar. The tropical flavor is not bad and is lactose free too! If I'm going to drink this stuff I want at least 20 grams of protien in each drinkl!:hungry:

The date is getting closer and closer. I still have some issues saying no to food and having a hard time doing the liquid diet. I think I am ready for this, I want to look and feel different about me. I want to also be attractive to me and then to others as well. I'm still too embarassed to tell folks what I am doing so I make up stories. But that is not a big issue right now. I am not sure if it is my fear of failure or just "I should have been able to do this" without the band. Either way I am doing this! I do need however someone to talk with and this journal writing is helping with meeting that need. :bandit

Just banded yesterday 10/19
Mscas3 replied to socaldixiegal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My boys are a little older and I have not said anything to them. I think kids watch what we do more than they listen to what we say:) My youngest is sixteen and makes great food choices and is very active. Nothing like me. I am not sure how I will address this when I actually have th eprocedure in 9 days. They have noticed different food in the house but mom is always on some kind of diet. My baby graduations from HS in June 2009 and I want to be in the best health and look fabulous at his graduation. One thing I do know is our kids love us and will be proud of the choices we made to be healthier and live longer! -
Things moved very quickly after my insurance said it was a go! I just had to keep up with the appointments. I had my pre-op already and just waiting for my date to arrive. Trying to do the pre-opt diet and having a little difficulty. Good luck and hope it all goes well and quickly!

justwaitin2b banded in October and a bit scared
Mscas3 replied to justwaitin2b's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
HI All, Weekends are alway tougher! I know what you mean Fanny. My Dr. said no last suppers but I am feeling like I must eat all the foods I won't be able to eat after Oct. 30th. I know I use food for emotional reasons. I also know it will be easier for us if we follow the rules now. I am going to start again tomorrow. I will do better, I wil do better I will do better...:help: -
I lost 50lbs on a liquid diet and gained back 75 pounds! I need more help in keeping it off. This is why I am doing this! It is a tool that will really help us! Hang in there!
