  1. Hi everyone - I came across an interesting article today while looking at Google News: food was how I always dealt with stress, anxiety, etc. pre-surgery, and I still haven't found an adequate replacement for it post-surgery. Don't get me wrong, exercise helps, but food wass convenient and I need something 'in the moment'. What does everyone think? How do you all handle in the moment stress and anxiety?

    Lifting?

Thanks. Appreciate the response. I was just concerned about my body's ability to recover because these can be fairly rigorous programs. So far, doing pretty great with the working out, but my endurance has been a little disappointing. I'll improve that though if I stick with it.

    Lifting?

Hi everyone - My surgery was August 18th, and things have gone pretty well. My surgeon cleared me for all exercise last Tuesday, and I've joined a gym. I'm thinking about starting with StrongLifts or Starting Strength, but have heard concerns about linear progression programs and required calorie intake. Has anyone else tried these programs post-surgery? What do I need to watch out for?

    Question on protein intake

    Great advice! Thanks everybody!
  5. Hi everyone! I've got my surgery scheduled, and I finally had my nutritional consultation last week. I'm looking forward to the surgery. One weird thing that came out of the meeting with the nutritionist - they are recommending I try to hit 100 grams of Protein a day, and drink at least 80 ounces of Water. I think the usual is 60g and 60oz? So I guess I have two questions: First question: Anyone ever heard of this before? I'm a big guy - not just fat (which I am at 471 lbs), but tall (6'4") and just thickly built. Second question: This seems like it will be hard to pull off. I'm looking at an average of 16 grams of protein per meal in approximately 4-6 ounces of food by volume, I guess? Anyone have any suggestions on how to make that work? One more question for everyone - surgeon is saying I will lose 150 lbs, which pulls me down to around 320 lbs. That still seems awfully heavy to me. Are the estimates usually pretty accurate? Thanks!

    August Sleevers Check In

Checking in! August 18th! Good luck everybody!
  7. Hi everyone! This is my first post! My surgery is scheduled for Aug. 18th. I finally decided to get the surgery when a study came out a few weeks ago stating that men with specific types of fertility problems had double the chance of death of their peers. I fit that category, so it was time to do something drastic. I started research almost immediately.
