  1. My stomach made all sorts of noises for a few weeks after surgery. It's quieted down since then. Congrats on your surgery, you'll get under that 200 mark very soon. And then it'll be on to the next milestone.

    Coworker outed me

Nope, that would make me mad too. Plus it sounds like she is discounting your hard work. Maybe she's jealous or just doesn't have any respect for other people's business.
  3. Love this topic! My pet peeve is my family wanting to go to restaurants that I have no use for anymore. I got a promotion a few months back and my husband wanted to Celebrate by going to Cheesecake Factory. That really wasn't a celebration for me, I would rather have a new outfit. And every dish at that place is huge, there was nothing I could order. The other thing is choosing between eating and drinking. Sometimes when we go out, I want something tasty to drink like a flavored ice tea. But if I get that, I can't eat and vice versa. For me it's not just about following the rules, I literally get sick if I eat and drink at the same time. (probably for the best)

    Vomiting postop

I'm 10 months out and have had issues with vomiting since starting solids. My surgeon says it's likely to go away after a year or so. With meat, I've noticed I have more issues if it's dry at all. I can only handle chicken breast if it's really moist. I store mine with Water so it doesn't dry out. If I eat too much or too fast, I also throw up. Also can't eat anything spicy or fried or anything too sweet. Don't really need those last two anyway but it would be nice to have spicy food, I miss it.

    Calcium Chews

I use Caltrate Soft Chews, chocolate Truffle. I love the taste of them and look forward to taking those every day. Tastes a little like tootsie rolls. I get them from Amazon.

How long was your longest stall?

My longest stall was 3 weeks and it started 3 weeks post op to around 6 weeks. After that, I've gone maybe a week or two at most without losing but then it's always followed by a pretty decent loss. I feel like there was nothing I could do to budge the scale during that first stall so I'm not sure there's anything you could do. I tried increasing my calories and then decreasing, drinking more Water, more Protein, less protein. I was half crazy over it. But just know that it will end eventually and that scale will move.

    Cheated myself

I agree with @@wantingabetterlife I occasionally change things up with carbs and it's helped my weight loss.
  9. I put together a plan with spreadsheets (because I'm a little geeky like that) and immerse myself in tracking and measuring. When it comes to exercise all I have to do is sign up for an event like a 5K. That gives me a deadline and a training plan to focus on. I do better when I'm working towards something.

    Running after surgery

Probably a few weeks after. I started slow with walking and elliptical but here I am 10 months out and ran 10 miles today. Every pound lost makes running a little easier.
  11. I'm one of the lucky ones too. Love my dietitian. I had to attend an 8 week mandatory class with her and the psychiatrist prior to surgery. We left with a giant binder of information. She's checked in with me in every post op appointment and offers advice for my current stage. For example, at my 9 month appointment, she told me to keep an eye on my carbs because this is around the time people start relaxing on the plan and the carbs creep back in and the weight loss slows.

    Carbs Before Workout

I agree, you are getting enough for what you're doing. I don't eat anything prior to my workouts with the exception of my weekly long run (approx 2 hour workout) and I have oatmeal before.

How long until I feel well again?

Yes, take tiny sips. You're probably taking too big of drinks. But the good news is, this will pass once the swelling goes down. I can take gulps now without that feeling (though not too many gulps in a row). Hang in there, it gets a lot easier.
  14. I used to describe myself as a slow loser but I've lost 90lbs in 10 months which is faster and more than I've ever lost before in the same amount of time. In retrospect, it doesn't seem very slow to me now. BTW, even with my relative slow weight loss I have loose skin. Not trying to burst your bubble but if it's going to happen, it'll happen. I'm hopeful it will firm up over the next year but if it doesn't, I'll still look fantastic in clothes.

    1st day post op

I don't know why but when I read posts like this, I feel your excitement and remember the excitement I felt right after my surgery. The excitement will die down a bit and then every once in a while, it comes back full force. Like when you hit One-derland or when you get into regular sized jeans, etc. Best of luck to you, you are starting a life changing journey.
  18. You have gained half of your weight back and that is unfortunate. But if you had not had the surgery, you may have continued to gain weight over the last few years and be well over 200 pounds and much less healthy. I feel like this is one of those 'why don't you just try diet and exercise to lose weight instead of taking the easy way out' things.

Had my 6 month post op doctor's visit

And you've added countless years to your life. Congrats on your success!
  20. @@glitterpockets I didn't have any staples, they glued my incisions shut. I was all prepared for gas pains, I wish my doctor would have mentioned beforehand that he removes the gas at the end of the surgery. Not one gas pain. Seriously, ask your doctor if he does this and if the answer is no, my next question would be why not. Otherwise, I feel like I was pretty well educated about what to expect. The post op recovery is a very brief part of the process. It becomes a faint memory very quickly.
  21. I don't feel like I've lost fast but I've lost pretty consistently over the last 10 months. Just this morning, I went through my journal from the date of surgery to present. I noticed that I didn't lose that much the first week. The second week, I had a pretty strong weight loss and then week 3 - 6, I hit that 3 week stall and everything shut down. I remember at my 6 week visit, the doctor was concerned that I hadn't lost as much as they expected. From then on, my weight loss has been pretty steady. I agree with previous posters that you have IV fluids in you and not to mention that pain meds can shut down business in the bathroom. All sorts of factors there. These early weeks are no indication of how you will lose long term.

    More food....

That is great news! I've had to play all sorts of tricks on the scale to keep it moving in the right direction.

    Sleeve fears

Everything you are concerned about is completely normal. Even those of us that have had surgery previously get nervous about surgery. The surgery is one day and recovery is fast. But the benefits of surgery are much longer so don't let one day worry you too much. About the loose skin, not much you can do about that. It's mostly genetics. You are young so your skin might bounce back. But I would rather have loose skin than skin full of fat. Though running to the gym is not a bad idea. It'll help with the weight loss and you'll have so much more energy to work out once the weight starts coming off.
