I'm 3 months out and still having a tough time too. I had a tiny piece of turkey and a little mac and cheese for Christmas dinner and threw it all up and felt horrible. Sometimes I can eat something and the next time I try, it makes me sick.

Everyday is a new day
*Lexie* replied to Justoperated's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 3 months post op (as of today) and I am still figuring out my new sleeve. Some days I can tolerate certain foods and other days everything makes me sick. Hopefully over the next few months, I really start figuring things out. Best of luck to you, hang in there. -
Merry Christmas! I had a little turkey and macaroni and cheese but it didn't stay in my stomach very long.

Should I be proud or?
*Lexie* replied to BobbieVSG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've lost 31lbs in 12 weeks so I'm right there with you. Once I got past my 3 week stall, I have consistently lost 1-3 pounds a week so I've made peace with it. It really bothered me at first but it's not doing me any good to be constantly frustrated. My doctor said they expect me to lose 4-6 pounds a month and I'm exceeding that goal right now. -
Does anyone actually like their protein drink?
*Lexie* replied to AvaFern's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nope, I don't like any of it. But I can tolerate Premier Protein. Low sugar, high carb and it's grab and go. Do you like beef Jerky? It's salty and good and I get to chew, chew, chew so it lasts a long time. 2oz is around 160 calories and 28g of protein. -
Is eating fruit okay?
*Lexie* replied to pinkbunies's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor approved fruit but just warned against any with seeds like strawberries which might irritate. Most mornings I have either a scrambled egg (or eggbeaters) with a scoop of sausage cooked into it and a small amount of cheddar cheese on top. It's a good Protein rich Breakfast. If I'm in a hurry, I have a hot chocolate with a scoop of GENEPRO Protein powder. I eat beef Jerky as a snack. I don't need to drink as many Protein shakes if I have some beef jerky. And it's delicious. -
I am almost 3 months out and I've tried just the pizza toppings and it's awful painful. Anything too greasy causes me pain. I hope you were able to enjoy a little pizza.

When are we actually able to call ourselves thin?
*Lexie* replied to MichiganChic's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@IcanMakeit Looking at your stats, I think you are skinny. I would call myself skinny at that weight. @Rogofulm Boys are allowed to have opinions too. I always enjoy reading your posts. I had read that article and didn't think much of it until you posted this. Definitely good discussion that I enjoyed. I went into a department store the other day and happened across a pair of 00 jeans and we joked that they might be tight on my friend's 9 year old daughter and we were not in the kids section. It's crazy! -
Others finding solid foods unpleasant?
*Lexie* replied to Lallylocks's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree! My dietitian wants us on solid foods quickly and not relying on soft or puree. I understand why because sometime I really want to go back to what's easy and doesn't make me uncomfortable. But I lose more steadily on solids so I've been trying to stick with it. -
Checking to see if anyone from September is still here and how you are doing. How's your weight loss at this stage? I had my 3 month appt today (my actual 3 months is Christmas Eve). Everything went well. Doctor is happy with my weight loss and said their expectation is 4-6 pounds a month. It was nice to find out what they think is good. I have been averaging 2-3 pounds per week and I'm happy that it's been steady. I throw up a few times per week. Just when I think I can tolerate something, everything changes. I had salmon on Saturday with no issues and had leftovers that I took to work today. Today the 2 oz of salmon made me sick. I still haven't figured everything out. Right now I can tolerate around 2-3 oz. I feel like I have the same restriction that I had when I first started regular food. Things I can't eat: bread Pasta fried foods pizza without the crust salmon Yeah, I know I shouldn't be eating most of those things to begin with. That's why it's good news that I get a negative reinforcement when I tried them. Things I can eat: chocolate - darn it! lettuce celery My doctor said that the honeymoon phase is the first year. I've read that it's the first 6 months. Anyone want to weigh in on this? Of course I'd be happy if it is a year.

Do you notice how much others eat?
*Lexie* replied to *Lexie*'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@athena3127 I completely agree. I had the same issue with my son and his pediatrician told me to go with the flow with his eating patterns because they may go a day or two barely eating anything but then they'll eat a ton and make up for it. When we force them to eat on schedule, we teach them to stop trusting their hunger signals. My son is 8 now and I still follow the doctor's advice. Some days he skips meals and barely eats and then tonight he ate 2 hamburgers at dinner. And more importantly, I don't have to fight with him to try to get him to eat. -
When did you try Steak again?
*Lexie* replied to SeahawksFan's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm close to 3 months and I've tried a lot of things but I am not yet brave enough to try steak. -
Going out to eat for the 1st time
*Lexie* replied to Debbieduck4's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
refried Beans or Soup of some sort. If it was a different type of restaurant, I would suggest mashed potatoes. Stay away from the rice, could be very painful. I'm almost 3 months out and still afraid to try rice. -
Do you notice how much others eat?
*Lexie* replied to *Lexie*'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@beachplum Share your tips on how to make it look like you're eating more than you are. I struggle at work dinners because I don't want to draw attention to the fact that I'm not eating that much. I've had a few people ask me already if I liked my food or comment that I didn't eat that much. -
This week was my first work trip since having surgery. Before surgery, I would gain 2-4 pounds on average every time I traveled. Eating out every meal is tough like that. I did fantastic this time. Stuck to salads with grilled chicken, no snacking and last night at our fancy dinner, I had about a third of a lobster tail. And I worked out in the hotel. I have a good feeling about my weigh in tomorrow!

And then spend the collection money on new smaller clothes.

How Long Was Your 3 Week Stall?
*Lexie* replied to beachgurl84's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine started around the 2 week mark as well and it lasted for 3 weeks. Very frustrating! But since then I've lost steadily each week. I hope I don't hit another stall for a long time. Hang in there, it really stinks to go through this. I thought I was going to lose my mind. -
Convenience foods made me fat. These food are keeping me thin.
*Lexie* replied to LipstickLady's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I try to keep beef Jerky handy. I know it's high in sodium but it has so much Protein and I love it. I make egg salad (which is basically lazy deviled eggs), tuna salad and buffalo dip. Buffalo dip is canned chicken with Frank's Red Hot Buffalo sauce, a little cream cheese, blue cheese dressing and shredded cheddar. I usually scoop it up with celery (that luckily I can tolerate). It's a little bit of heaven and worked well for me on the puree stage (without the celery). I also like ground beef. Sometimes I use it as taco meat and mix it with lettuce and shredded cheese. Sometimes I like to add a little A1 to it and eat it plain. I haven't tried any steak yet, I probably need to wait until my sleeve is a little more mature. LOL I am going to look for the quiches. -
Low Carb/Atkins -vs- Sleeve
*Lexie* replied to Mike4132's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've tried Atkins in the past and for me there are many differences. I'm on Atkins and go to a restaurant with plans to have a lean piece of fish and vegetables and they bring a bowl of bread to the table. I want that bread. I would love to have some Pasta instead of fish since I already ate some bread and ruined my diet. It is about choice and I would usually give in and cheat on my diet. Fast forward to now and we go to Red Lobster and I plan to have some crab meat and a little bit of salad. They bring those delicious biscuits to the table and I look at them with horror because the last time I tried to eat a half slice of toast, I was in agony for 2 hours. I don't want pasta because I threw up the last time I had a 1/4 cup of it. It really stinks to get sick but it's one hell of a reinforcer. If I eat bread, pasta or anything fried, I get sick. I am forced into making healthier choices. I'm sure someday I'll probably be able to tolerate these foods but I sort of hope it doesn't change or maybe I'll just get so used to not having them that I won't miss them. And as for other foods that I can tolerate that don't fall into my eating plan such as the 1/3 piece of pumpkin pie I had on Thanksgiving. That's where my restriction helps me a lot. Even if I eat something fattening, I can only handle a few bites. That helps me physically stay on plan and psychologically not feel defeated because I didn't have 3 pieces of pie and blow my diet. I just had a few bites. I'm on a few months post op and right now I feel like I would have to try pretty hard to fail at this. I know that as the restriction lessens, this will not be the case. that's why now is the perfect time to build new habits and get in a healthy routine. -

5 Months Post op today!
*Lexie* replied to dannilynn1's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Very inspiring. I am going to make sure I get my Protein in every day. -
My weight loss definitely is feast or famine (no pun intended). I don't often have to force myself to eat. food still always sounds good to me, I just can't eat as much of it as I would like. I have to work hard on eating slowly so I don't get sick. I measure but sometimes I still eat a bite too much and get sick.

Surgery tomorrow, very scared.
*Lexie* replied to tfarr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Very normal. Any surgery can elicit this fear. But when it's elective, we start to wonder if it's worth the risk. You can survey everyone on this site and you'll be hard pressed to find someone say that it's not worth the risk. Hang in there, once it's over, you will feel so relieved. -
As part of your exercise program, maybe you should take some self defense or boxing classes. It's a great workout and very empowering. It'll keep you feeling like a bad a$$ as you lose weight.

How do you guys eat out...
*Lexie* replied to TeacherMommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to agree that the Chik fil a grilled nuggets are really good. I get the kids meal with 4 nuggets and applesauce. I have gotten crab legs (added on to my husbands meal, not a whole meal for myself), grilled shrimp, salmon, pulled pork or grilled chicken. Sometimes I just order a side salad and eat a little of that.
