  1. Success does not come from having to follow bandster rules SUCCESS comes from wanting to follow bandster rules.

64lbs Lost! 3 Months Post Op

I can see the joy you are sharing through your words. The band journey certainly is easier when you have support from your loved ones. Often times those that are close to do not want us to succeed.
  5. For me it was easier for me to share my surgery and I got and still get a lot if support As a result several other co workers have gotten WLS, from the sleeve, gastric bypass and some like me the lapband. Some have lost 100 lbs or more and some have gained back the weight they have lost. I still believe I made the right choice to go for the band and let my supervisors know.

    cheated..feeling guilty

Wow only a 2 lb gain and you cheated not bad, please do not beat yourself up. After getting down to 190 in late 2009 by the end of 2012 I was back up to 250. Now that is something to feel bad about. But I am not, just recommitted myself in January 2013 and down over 40 lbs this year and I am by no stretch of the imagination a perfect bandster. It's all about make more good choices then bad choices.

    Share Your NSVs Here Please!

My Favorite NSV's are: Not having to ask for an extension on an airplane Walking down an aisle of an airplane without apologizing for almost knocking someone out. Getting off the coach on the first try Crossing my legs Getting dressed without sitting down Being able to ride any coaster at an amusement park Not having to worry if the ladder is going to hold me or not Tying my shoes without almost passing out. Taking the golf ball out of the hole without getting on my knees first Having the grand kids get tired before I do Leaving food on the plate without feeling guilty

    Compliments

In my case I like it when the young ones (under 55 years of Age ) give me a compliment Of course just being alive and active is the biggest compliment I can give to myself

    Small victory!!

Love being able to sit at a booth and have to pull the table in. This week I had to travel around Alaska on 8 flights 6 of the 8 flights I had to tighten the seat belt rather than loosen. I also love it that the tray table is no where near my stomach.

    A caution about fills

I have 1.5 cc in a 4 cc band any more than that any I am to tight. I Love ice cream shakes but it would not mater how tight the band was ice cream and chocolate will always slide down for me. So just because I love them does not mean I can have them every day. Fortunately for me I make more good choices than Bad choices and I concentrate on The NSV's.

    boycotting CVS....

    Hooray for Hollywood!
  12. Never to late to "reboot" I just past six years banded and from a low of 190 in 2009 made my way back up to 250 last Christmas. Most of the time that I was gaining I was too tight so slider foods and lots of ice cream shakes were the norm. "Recommitted" myself on 1/1/13. Have re-lost about 45 lbs this year. The band has done its job at meal time my main problem was eating after 9:00 pm. So I need to make sure I go to bed before 9:00. Which means I get up earlier between 4 & 5 in the morning so I use this time to either walk or do resistance band training. I also have had to limit the number of bad choices to the bare minimum. Such as putting extra butter on butter popcorn. Instead of eating the biggest snickers bar I can fine I settle for a little bite size snicker and take tiny bites and let the favor linger in my mouth as long as I can. I have also increased my Water intake. "For me" making more good choices than bad choices seems to work.
  13. Taking time to savor food instead focusing on how much I can cram in the shortest time possible. What a concept.

    another silly question!

Protein over lettuce any day. When I do eat a salad I have the dressing on the side dip the fork in the dressing and the get a little salad this way I taste the dressing without over doing it. Really a true carnivore at heart.
  16. Silly me I told the truth on my License. I currently weigh 80 lbs less than what is on my License I get Lot of funny looks from the TSA at airport security. On occasion I will get a compliment.

    Would you have WLS again?

Still alive and kicking so For me the answer is yes I would do the surgery again.
  20. Never easy to lose a furry loved one. So very nice that he was able to pass away at home rather than away from those that cared about him.
  21. Welcome to the Forum, Congratulation on your start on this lab band journey. Remember to not get caught up what the scale is saying but concentrate more on how your life is changing. There is nothing better than being a parent, (I do have to admit Being a Grampa is just pure fun. You are heading in the right direction because you will need all the energy you can muster to keep up with the youngster. Take care.
  22. Enjoying life as it comes and not getting bog down in the small stuff!

  23. You have certainly had your share of troubles and certainly have more than just physical pain. For Me the Lap band has indeed been a life saver, I have had more than one relatives die because of obese related issues. I did not want to be one of them. I no longer take meds for diabetes, no longer have knee and back pains, no longer have sleep apnea, no longer have breathing problems, no longer have chronic bronchitis twice a year, Every surgery has risks and no matter what WLS you chose it may or not be the correct choice for you. I have known some individuals who have had various WLS from the Lap band, the sleeve, and the Gastric bypass and they have been very successful along with some who have gained all the weight back and more. Your situation does encourages those who have not made the decision to have WLS to make sure that the benefits to be had far outweigh the risks.

    Longer term Success

Wow terrific advise to stay focus and sweat the little stuff. When I want to have a pity party for myself I concentrate on my ever increasing NSV's. Not being concern if the ladder I am on will hold me. When I was 330 lbs I was climbing on an old wooden ladder on a Water tank and I broke 3 steps. Walking up and down stairs without losing my breath. Not worrying if the chair in the cafe will hold me. Take care
  25. My wife and I were banded on 9/12/07. While the journey has not been easy we both agree that it is one of the best decisions we have ever made. Like you my wife is my best friend. At the hospital she went first and they put n a 10 cc band and I went in an hour later and they put in a 4 cc band. The nurses thought it was cute that we did it together. They were kind of shocked to see a man and a women in the same room. Be sure to take it easy and let your body heal. For me walking really helped and following the plan that the doctor and staff had put together. I got transferred in July 2008 and have gone to 4 other doctors. The current doctor is very supportive and very honest yet concerned for our well being.
