I know the port is there and I can feel the port quite easily. Occasionally I touch the port location and remind myself that I am not really dreaming and I have actually lost weight.

I ate some solid foods before the proper time period and I did just fine as well. Just remember to always chew your few well are you will get uncomfortable in a hurry.

I use a pill splitter and cut the pill in half and have no problem taking pills with water.

Banded Together? huband/wife at the same time
jfc193 replied to srknepler's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My wife and I were banded on the same day on 9-12-07. Since her sister lives with us they allowed us to have it done on the same day since we would have someone to drive us home. We stayed overnight and shared a hospital room and waved each other as we got up at different times to use the restroom and walk around. We have been each other best friends for so many years why not do it together. -
Try not to get to concern if some weeks you do not lose or even gain a pound here and there. Even though we feel we should be rewarded by losing weight every week the body adjust along the way. The basic idea is to follow the plan and pick up on little victories along the way and enjoy your new life.

What weight did you use as your starting point your highes or weight on surgery day ?
jfc193 replied to ivyrose325's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I use my highest weight 317 lbs which was the weight I was when I was diagnosed with Diabetes. I had lost about 80 lbs and I was on a low dosage of my diabetes medication. I needed to use a cpap machine to breathe and sleep at night. As I have done before I started gaining the weight back. I had regained most of the weight and then when I reached 300 lbs maybe higher my scales wont go any higher my sugar was over 300 as well and I decided I needed to do something in order to keep living. My pre surgery weight is 285 and that is a date I want to track because it is the beginning of my lap band journey. At the time of this writing I am 217 lbs and am almost off my medicine. I no longer use the cpap machine. So in my case both the highest weight and my starting surgery weight have equal importance to me. -
Finally have lost 100 lbs from my highest weight of 317. I have not been at this weight for 18 years. It has not been easy journey but I do like the restriction that the band brings to my life.

I am almost off the diabetic medicine most likely one more month. I also no longer use a cpap machine.

I have had good support and really not a lot of bad feedback. I have many who are watching how I am doing and are considering the lap band for themselves. I have lost 50 to 60 pounds in the past only to gain it back this last time before band I had gain back 40 pounds of what I had lost so they are watching to see if I gain it back again. This time I believe I have found what I have been looking for. My problem was I was a binge eater and I was always hungry from 9 pm to 12 am, so I go to bed at 9 and get up at 5 to go walking for a couple of hours. Needless to say the band does not permit me to binge.

I just had to rely on will power till I got my second fill and then I had pretty good restriction. Now after 6 weeks I am eating a little more and have to rely more on will power I will be going in this Thursday to get my third fill which hopefully I will not need any more fills for awhile.

I live in the San Francisco Bay area and I am always cold while others around me are warm. I am fortunate that in my office I have my own thermostat so I can keep it warmer then the rest of the office.

Anyone turned down due to fen/phen use?
jfc193 replied to PeeJay1031's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Both my wife and I used fen/phen and reported that to the doctor and had no problem being banded. Besides if you are being covered by the same insurance they would already have a record of it. -
Congratulations AZPete! I believe that it is good for us to blow our horn once and awhile.

Do you think there is discrimination against obese people?
jfc193 replied to milton5a's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have an MBA and some people treat me like I am not very bright. But the ones that drive me nuts are people who raise their voice as by speaking louder might help me to understand them. -

What is Perfect Restriction
jfc193 replied to want2beme's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Kbinaz, jack and wombat have good information. Wendel has a sticky thread in the FAQ section that explains the process quite well http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f73/how-lap-band-actually-works-fills-refills-45563/ In any case please do not give up. -
I have eaten popcorn on two occasion but not very much. Before the lapband I would eat all the popcorn insight. I could never understand how thin people at the movies would leave their half eaten popcorn in their seats. I always wanted to go and pick it up and eat it but never did. I can not believe that I am satisfied after just a couple of handfuls does not seem very fair.

I had to change PCP since she did not believe in WLS, She was monitoring my diabetes and I really like her but I was tired of losing and gaining weight back. I switch to a PCP who made a recommendation to a doctor for a lap band and have been very pleased with my process so far.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> I hope that in two months I will not be on any medication. I also had to use a CPAP machine prior to the lap band but I no longer have to use one.
