Harder than I thought
jfc193 replied to jessicawinston's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Speaking from my experience I had many bumps along the road. Making bad food choices have been one of them. Having too tight of a band Stop exercising Eating in front of the TV Choosing to eat so call comfort foods (mash potatoes, chips, ice cream etc) Drinking with my meals eating after 10:00 pm Wandering why I am not losing weight Things I like about the band I have reasonable restriction Hardly every forget to chew my food throughly Nose starts to run when I eat to much Get up early so I am ready to go to bed before 10 pm to avoid late night snacking. rarely drink with my meal eat my protean first never fill my plate to reduce the temptation to try to over eat. The fact is that in my journey I have lost over 100 pounds with out the band I am positive that I would be well over 350 pounds, since previous attempts to lose weight I would love 40 pounds but gain 60. I had sleep apnea and had to use a breathing machine at night now I do not use a breathing machine I had to take medicine for diabetes now no longer take any medication had pains in the back and knees now pain free. The journey is hard but I seem to make more correct choices then bad ones. -
Remember me? I was down thinking i failed my LP.

Terrific that you are back, I was banded in September of 07 and it has been qutie the journey. Going back to see the doctor is quite the challenge. Glad you were able to find a doctor and get back on Track. -
Greetings from another Newbie

welcome, first off your are not alone and your experiences are very similar keep your head up and stay on track, if you get off track get back on track. Most of my weight gains have take place when I stay away from this board. -
Ah big brother seems to be watching over you or perhaps an angel.
-
I agree kinda of scary for a moment. Any NSV is terrific. Putting on a pair of socks without sitting down.
-
Though I have plenty of hair on top of my head my stomach is free of hair and did not have to worry about that kind of pain. Your experience sure brought a smile to my face give me the courage to face the day and thank the genes that reside in me. Take care

Congratulations on your new adventure. Like the others you will benefit from all the knowledge on this forum. When I stay away from the forum then I tend to get sloppy with my eating habits.

Walking and Isometrics are what works for me. Be careful and take it easy you have a lifetime ahead of you.

My grand children are convinced that I have an alien in my stomach because of the Crazy and weird voices. Not much of a burper either.
-
Congratulations I know how you feel. It has been nearly 4 years since I stop taking medication for diabetes medicines also do not have sleep apnea anymore.

Congratulation anytime you have those NSV you should Celebrate. I just love tnot having to use a belt extender on a plane, not having to walk side ways down the airplane aisle. Not losing my breathe when walking down the jetway. -
I love to eat always have. What the band does is help me with the amount that I eat. As long as I eat slow and chew and chew and not drink fluids with my meal the hunger passes. Of course the so called comfort foods Ice cream and chocolate go down quickly no matter what. What I lean on is that in the past I would lose 40 pounds and gain 60 so I I guess it is a victory that at least I am not doing that.

Frederic is correct, regarding setting realistic goals. Some will lose fast and some lose slow in any case I know that without the lap band I more than likely be over 400 lbs with an overabundance of medical issues. Take care

There is always tomorrow. can not afford to get down on your self Hope you enjoyed yourself and got back on track.

Congratulation on the start of your journey.

Do You Still Have Your Gall Bladder?
jfc193 replied to mslynn's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Had my gall bladder removed on March 10, 2013 -
I have triouble eating Steak can not seem to get it small enough, Orange and apples are difficult can tolerate a small amount of grapes.
-
Even in Sunny California I have a tendency to be cold, I usually have a sweater at work and wear socks to bed at night. My wife on the other hands tends to be warmer.
-
my wife and I were banded on the same day and even shared the hospital room. the Nurses thought it was cute. Having both of us on the same journey even though the journey has not been easy and I still have a ways to go I would not trade my band for anything in the world.
-
What ever your reasons health is very important. I have not taken any meds or used my cpap breathing machine for four years.
-
Last week I had to have to my gallbladder removed due to severe pancreatitis. I am still doing OK I am back down to 230 and the 100 pound mark. I know that without my band I would be over 330 lbs.
-
Usually a "Premier Protein" shake with 30g protein in the morning.
-
I know how difficult life journey can be. I was banded in 2007 so it has been awhile. I too have gained weight and gained back around 40 lbs to 250 but currently am back to 230, For a few seconds I did flirt with being under 200 but I was to tight and lost weight because I could not hold anything down not to healthy. I know that without my band I would still be over 330 pounds with diabities and sleep apnea. I still appreciate my band because I am at a proper fill and it is up to me not to overdue all those comfort foods. In any case I went away from this board where my support came from. Hopefully I will not make that mistake again.
