    Time off of work?

I work in IT. I took off one week. I think that returning to normal as soon as possible was far more beneficial to me than sitting around the house for an extra week.

    Since it looks like there will only be 6 of us, what do you all think about this to make things a little more interesting: QB - 1 WR - 4 RB - 1 TE - 1 K - 1 DEF - 1 D - 2 BN - 4
  4. I'm still experimenting with soft foods to determine which agree with me and which don't. Friendly foods: oatmeal Yogurt Most Soups Applesauce Refried Beans Oscar Mayer Carving Board smoked turkey Unfriendly foods (tend to make my sleeve feel like it's clogged up even when chewed well): Scrambled eggs Canned meats See my ticker below for my progress.
  5. Two weeks post-op = down 24 pounds.
  6. Surgery Monday, stopped pain meds Thursday, drove home Friday.
  7. I decided to try VitaFusion's chewable Calcium Vitamins (2 per day) with one regular Flintstones multivitamin. So far, so good. The VitaFusions are 15 calories each and have sugar in them, but considering I've lost nearly 20 pounds in 2 weeks, that's sacrifice I'm willing to make to avoid the horse pills. lol Also, I don't recall hearing anything about gummy vitamins being off-limits for sleevers. They don't seem to be causing me any problem at the moment. I could see how they would be a problem for lap-banders, tho.
  8. I think these "Bariatric Best" Vitamins that my surgeon's office gave me are actually for horses. They're way too big to swallow comfortably after surgery. Any recommendations on something that has the equivalent nutritional value but in a more tolerable size?

We can still play with 6, but 10 would be more fun.

  11. IMO, pre-op diets are pretty pointless unless there's a medical necessity (fatty liver, etc.). I do think you should put your best effort into following the diet because your surgeon did ask you to do it (for whatever reason), but don't beat yourself up if you have trouble with it.
  12. I had the same pre-op diet: only clear liquids after noon the day before, nothing by mouth after midnight day of. I'm now post-op Day 9, on soft foods, and doing great.
  13. @@Beth Pets - it doesn't SAY chewable on the bottle, so I ASSUME that they are not. For now let's just say they're not chewable so that I don't feel like an idiot for asking this question and I'll try chewing one next time. lol.

The draft is next Monday, August 25, so be sure to join the league ASAP!!!
  15. Remember that thirst and hunger feel basically the same. I've noticed that if I've been busy and not drinking my Water like I should, I start to feel "hungry." If it's your normal meal time, go ahead and eat, but if it's outside that time, drink some water first and see how you feel. Quick update at post-op day 8: I'm down 10 pounds in the week since surgery. Yay! I went back to work yesterday, and the morning was kinda tough because my energy level was very low. However, upon review, I realized it was my own damn fault. I reverted to a pre-op habit of not eating Breakfast until I got to the office, so on top of the general fatigue leftover from major surgery, I added even more fatigue from going to work without breakfast. Lesson learned. My post-op diet plan said to return to soft foods (mashable with a fork) on day 8, but I made an executive decision to start my soft foods stage half a day early to combat that fatigue, and boy did that help a lot with the fatigue. My first soft foods meal was about 1/2 a can of chicken with about 3 or 4 tablespoons of refried Beans. I ate about 85% of that. The sensation was definitely different than the full liquids stage... not pain exactly, but more of a discomfort in the stomach. As long as I chewed thoroughly and took small bites, it wasn't bad. I'm expecting that pain/discomfort to decrease as my stomach heals (again, I'm only a 8 days post-op, so I have several weeks of healing left). I feel about 90% back to normal today. Soreness has actually increased around the incision sites, probably because they're continuing to heal (no redness or anything to indicate an infection), but otherwise everything's going very well.
  16. We can't use straws? What's the reasoning on that?

    HICCUPS!

My hiccups were very uncomfortable frustrating but only lasted about 24 hours after surgery. Deep breathing usually helped. I would run that one by your surgeon at your next post-op appointment or by phone if you don't have one for awhile.

I can commish. I created a Yahoo league here if you guys want to use that. https://yho.com/nfl?l=976933&k=6fcd1a7e59267c85 Standard Yahoo scoring and positions. It's set for 10 teams right now but can be expanded up to 20 if there's interest.
  20. @@VSGAnn2014 - yeah, there's a huge range on post-op diets, though I'm not really sure why. My surgeon seemed to take the approach that it was better to be back on normal foods--albeit in smaller portions and with healthier ingredients--as soon as physically possible. I can start soft foods mashable with a fork, like scrambled eggs and refried Beans, on Tuesday, just 8 days post-op. I suppose we'll see if that works, but so far, so good. @@dreamgirl45 - now you're talkin'. Either of those probably will be tasty, and now I have a mission for tomorrow morning!
  21. So, Post Op Day 5. The Cream of Things stage continues. I've become a big fan of pureed or strained cream of chicken. I'm still experimenting with cream of wheat; my pre-op cream of wheat recipe was bascially three parts cream of wheat, one part margarine, and one part sugar. lol. I tried a small dab of whipped butter and a pinch of sugar in my cream of wheat yesterday, and it was gross. I think I'll stick with just plain cream of wheat, though now that I think about it, a pinch of cinnamon might be good. Today I'm adding thinned Campbell's broccoli and cheese soup. The label looked like it didn't have any big chunks in it, but if it does, I'll strain them out. My big problem right now continues to be energy levels. I don't feel particularly weak, but even the lightest activity leaves me a sweaty, exhausted mess for about 15-30 minutes, and then I'm fine. Otherwise, all my fluids and full-liquid foods are going down well, and my hunger level is more of a "I should probably do something about that eventually" feeling than the pre-op "OMG I'm going to die if I don't eat all the things immediately." I think I like that. Pro-tip: if you can afford it, schedule a house cleaner for the first weekend post surgery. Mine is here cleaning the kitchen right now, and it's the best idea I've had in years. haha. @@Linvega - I slept on my back until last night. I discovered that at this point I can sleep on my left side but not my right. Small victories. haha. PS to mods: I hadn't intended this to be a running blog, so if you think it's more appropriate to move this thread to another forum, it won't hurt my feelings.
  22. Surgery day +3: I finally slept all night for the first time since surgery. The night in the hospital sucked because the nurses had to wake me up every couple hours to check my vitals, so I got very little sleep. The next night at home I tried sleeping on the couch because I was worried about trying to get in and out of bed, and that wasn't much better than the night in the hospital. But last night I decided "screw it" and went to bed, and I slept like a freakin' rock. I was actually more sore when I woke up this morning I think because my body finally had a good opportunity to start healing itself. Despite that, I felt so much better having gotten some rest. Otherwise, today has been uneventful. I didn't walk as much today because my energy levels have been pretty low. But, I did finally eat some real food: thinned cream of wheat for lunch with pureed cream of chicken Soup for dinner plus a couple Premier Protein shakes as Snacks. Also, cherry sugar-free popsicles are absolutely magical after a few walking laps around the pool in the Texas heat. I spent most of the rest of the day just watching tv with my parents and doing fantasy football mock drafts. Could be worse. haha. Also, @@marfar7 , funny you mention that. There seems to be a wide range of approaches to recovery by individual surgeons. I know mine used a robot for the actual surgery, and I've read that doing so reduces recovery time. I'm on pain meds only as needed (a couple times a day right now). I wonder if that had something to do with it.

Yep, count me in. Can we use Yahoo?
  24. Surgery day + 2: my fever finally broke around noon, so I've been feeling pretty good today. I walked around the backyard for awhile and got a couple Protein shakes down. My doc includes thinned hot cereals and cream of mushroom in the full liquids stage (as long as they're not chunky), so I'm going to give those a try tomorrow. I'm starting to regain my interest in food, but it's different than before surgery. Sorta hard to explain... like I want to eat, and whatever my parents are eating does smell good, but I don't feel compelled to stuff my face, and a simple Protein shake is satisfying. I won't lie, tho: I'm looking forward to having a scrambled egg with some refried Beans in a week or so.
