You've had major surgery, and the body uses a lot of energy to repair itself. It's natural and expected to feel tired. I had very low energy levels through about week 5 or 6. Yesterday I ran 2 miles. You'll get there.

Beans, beans, they're good for your heart--the more you eat, the more you... aren't constipated as much. Benefiber mixed in with Crystal Light also helps.

I tell them I had weight loss surgery. I'm a year in and so far haven't encountered a single negative reaction, so maybe I'm lucky. If I did encounter a negative reaction, I don't expect to change anything because of it. I did what I did for me; I don't really care what anyone else thinks.

When did you start running after surgery?
kd5wzr replied to F4T-TRAP's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started the C25K app yesterday. I was really impressed with myself for doing the entire first day jogging workout without quitting. I would never have even considered doing anything close to this in my pre-sleeve days. It was even... dare I say... fun! -
I still drink beer. VSG has changed my philosophy on beer from "quantity" to "quality." Instead of a six pack of some crap beer, I'll have 2 or 3 quality microbrews and call it good. My surgeon's RN would probably smack me for that because the calories are still pretty high, but I like beer, and she doesn't need to know. Haven't tried pizza yet--no real desire for it. I could probably do a really thin crust pizza or just pick off the toppings, but there's really no point in trying to eat the crust. It's not going to fit. haha.

August post op sleevers: Check in
kd5wzr replied to motherof5's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Grazing and snacking has been my biggest challenge as well. I can't eat very much at any one sitting, which is great, but I have to be careful not to allow myself to eat too often. Otherwise, everything's going great. -
Hospital stay and How long were you out of work?
kd5wzr replied to Vikingsfan8178's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was in the hospital one night. I have a desk job and took a week off. If I had to do it again, I'd take two weeks off. That first week back was tough due to low energy levels, even just sitting there at the computer all day. Give yourself as much time to heal as you can. -

My three month follow-up appointment was yesterday. Aside from some heartburn when I forget to take my Prilosec, everything looks good. -
August post op sleevers: Check in
kd5wzr replied to motherof5's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm still alive. Weight loss has been slower than I wanted, but I'm getting there. I'm trying to talk myself into getting a personal trainer and/or joining a gym by the end of the year. If nothing else, I feel a lot better than I did before surgery. -
Will I ever feel better?
kd5wzr replied to Febes1800's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you're going through hell, keep going! I felt like crap for the first couple of weeks, but now--9 weeks later--I feel great. You'll get there. -

How Long After Surgery Can Someone Eat Hotdogs
kd5wzr replied to drelex210's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I doubt I could eat more than half of a standard hot dog (wiener with bun and condiments). And even that would be a real challenge. Personally, I'd throw away the bun and condiments, then slice up the wiener and mix it into a single-serving can of pork 'n Beans and make Beanie Weenie out of it. The sodium and fat would be higher than what's ideal, but the Fiber and Protein would be pretty good. -
Asking all you post sleevers: What do you wish you had known or done before surgery?
kd5wzr replied to Sydney Little Merlette's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This. Your body will adjust before your mind will. Just be prepared for that. -
Did You Freak Out About Surgery on the Day Of?
kd5wzr replied to mnmlst's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I thought of surgery as almost a reward for all the stupid bullshit I spent 6 months fighting through leading up to it. Arguing with the insurance company, seeing a specialist for this, seeing a specialist for that, having 55 gallons of blood drawn, convincing people that I wasn't going to die, etc., etc. All I had to do for surgery was show up and get naked. -
I'm +8 weeks and can finally eat scrambled eggs, but only if they're not overcooked/rubbery.

9 days post and no energy at all.....Normal?
kd5wzr replied to Lateese92's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had no energy for about 3 or 4 weeks. I'm at 8 weeks now and energy levels are as good and often better that pre-surgery. -

Who said tuna was a soft food ?
kd5wzr replied to alyce20's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only meat I could tolerate for the first couple weeks of "soft foods" was Oscar Mayer Carving Board smoked turkey. Canned tuna felt like eating bits of rubber. -
when you were 4 days post op

August post op sleevers: Check in
kd5wzr replied to motherof5's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
5 1/2 weeks out. I'm eating 4-5 small meals a day for about 1,000 calories a day and feeling pretty good. My weight loss stalled for a week between weeks 3 and 4, but I'm still averaging 5 pounds a week. I'm not focusing on any significant exercise program because exercise simply generates a desire to eat that isn't helpful right now. I walk my dog once or twice a day for 20 minutes at a time and call it good. -
Confused...I am 5 days post-op.
kd5wzr replied to JM26's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Right now the most important thing to do is hydrate. Dehydration at this stage is a real danger, so sip sip sip that Water. I wasn't even on Protein shakes until after day 7. Protein shakes also count toward the water intake goal. If you're going to be drinking water, it might as well be a protein shake. OP: you might try something like unjury mixed with Crystal Light if your surgeon is okay with it at your stage. -
Major Social Functions - How do you handle it?
kd5wzr replied to MommyMeghan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Unless they are close friends or family, I would tell any adult that openly questions how much I eat to mind their own goddamn business. But that's just me. -
3rd week post op, cannot tolerate scrambled eggs, anyone else?
kd5wzr replied to beatrizdallago's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
eggs are a no-go with me as well. Before surgery, I used to love a big buttery pile of scrambled eggs. Now, there's something about the texture that causes my sleeve to begin cramping immediately after the first bite. I've switched to greek yogurt for Breakfast Protein and moved on. -
They tell me that I'm still alive, but I'm not sure I believe them. Haha Seriously tho, not too bad so far. Pain is mild right now, tho it's all I can do to stay awake. And this TV does NOT have HD channels. Ugh. More updates to follow over the next few days.
