  1. My surgery is on the 3rd of December and I took from the 3rd to the 17th....but I have a very flexible boss and I'm hoping to go back part time/half days around the 11th and stretch my leave a bit further...time will tell...

    12 hours from now.....

Good luck and best wishes for a speedy uncomplicated recovery!
  3. HMMMM so sweet talking the scale works...I hadn't thought of that angle....thanks! And BTW Congrats on overcoming your stall!
  4. I also thought hard about this question. I love to cook! I like to think about the menu for the week, find new recipes....the whole enchilada (pun intended). So here's my plan, I'm already looking for things that I can cook that are now going to fit my new lifestyle. Yesterday I found a chicken stock recipe (the canned stuff is awful) that I will make this weekend and freeze in an ice cube tray (perfect 1 oz portions) and I have two recipes for when I can move on to cream Soups...one is a pumpkin Soup that is really low fat! So I guess my approach is that I will eventually return to cooking for me and my guys (husband and adult brother). I will just cook different things most of the time and save the unhealthy stuff for the very rare splurge....and even then try to healthen it up a bit

    Pre-op Questions

Interesting how some folks have to some folks don't. I do. I did a blog post the evening of my psych eval and listed all the questions I could remember...check out my blog here on this site for the details...it really wasn't that bad... Good luck!

    Pre-Op nerves and worry

I am right there with you! Well, actually I'm 2 weeks behind you...I start my liquid diet next Wednesday. I just recently started the unhelpful dialogue in my own head....what happens if this doesn't work... I'm trying hard to overcome the negative spin on things....so far I'm only batting 50 50....
  8. Hey Ho! Anyone have a hiatal hernia repaired at the same time as the gastric sleeve surgery? Does it make recovery longer/hospital stay longer? I have a "medium" hernia the surgeon found during the endoscopy.

    Good News!

So I went on vacation for two weeks, only gained two pounds, lost those before my weigh-in, had my endoscopy AND...got approved! I have a surgery date of 03 December and I'm equal parts nervous and excited...

    Full Liquids

Me too....getting sleeved on the 3rd that is! I have heard that tastes change after surgery so I got powdered vanilla Protein, several sugar free Toranis and some unflavored protein powder...hoping I can get through what amounts to a month on liquids with the variety...

    Quest Bars?

Yum! Apple Pie and Lemon Bar are as good as a dessert...also eat them half a bar at a time and am also preop...
  13. So I started listening to some old music on my ipod today and two songs spoke to me in a different way than from when I listened to them back in the day. One was U2s "Some Days are Better than Others" which I used to like for the music...but today it reminded me that the journey to a healthy me is not going to be a straight line...there will be some days better than others. The second was an Alanis Morrisette song called "Not As We". The song is basically about starting over after a bad relationship...but it spoke to me in a different way as I get nearer to my surgery date. The chorus has the phrase "Day one and I'll start again" which I think is what resonated with me. So then I got to thinking wonder if other people have a song that inspires, motivates or that just resonates differently with them as they are on their own WLS journeys....
  14. Take me home county roads....heading back to WV for a visit!

Catching Up and Going on Vacation

So it's been awhile! Did you miss me? I have been so busy lately...The two day a week liquid diet had some interesting challenges. The first couple of weeks I found myself way overeating on the other 5 days. So at week three I started doing the liquid thing for bfast and lunch on the 3rd day and eating dinner. I've also played with liquid for bfast and dinner and eating lunch. The reason for the experimentation is that hubby and I are going to visit our parents for the next two weeks and I've been wondering how to NOT GAIN WEIGHT! Lots of old habits around food and our families. I plan to shake for two meals and then eat sensible portions of whatever I want for the third meal (I haven't had surgery yet). I'm also taking my walking shoes! I hope that my working eating this way for the past week will help me do it on vacation...I'll let you know how it goes. On a side note, for the lades out there...I threw away ALL of my remaining granny panties today! I replaced them with fun colors, ruffles...you get the picture...no boring white cotton! On the WooHoo front, I also was able to buy a pair of pajama's at Wal Mart...doesn't seem like much but they are really cute (pink with sheep and they say "sheep dreams'). The point is, if I hadn't started this journey back in July, I would not have been able to get them....they wouldn't have fit at all! Hope everyone is having a good week. I probably wont post for a couple of weeks...but I'll let you now how the eating plan for the vacation went! Beth
  16. I haven't had my surgery yet...its coming on 03 December. My NUT suggested unflavored Protein powder because it is so hard to get the protein in. I kinda like the idea of being able to put it in stuff like crystal light as well...so I don't have to do the shakes all the time....just my two cents...

    End of November Sleever

Welcome to the forums! Lots of good folks with lots of good advice! I'm currently scheduled for 03 Dec....near when you are.
  19. LOL so I've been working on everything since late June. Finished all the NUT classes, cardiology...yadda yadda yadda. I have a tentative date of 03 December pending insurance approval. Once the date was set, I had to go online to take a course on the surgery and one line stuck out at me..."Remember, once a portion of the stomach is removed it can't be put back." YIKES Of course I always knew that...but I guess having a date makes it more real? Anyway, I think I've calmed back down, I have a 2 week vacation to go on here in Oct then work through November and then surgery Thanks to everyone on here that has shared...you have all helped me learn, understand and appreciate what I'm getting into...

    So Humiliated...

Been there done that and more...was once on a flight for which I had requested an exit row to have a bit more leg room. As I boarded I did my customary...could you bring me a seat belt extender. Got to my seat settled in, plane is FULL and THEN the stewardess comes over in a not very quiet voice and tells me I can't sit there because if I need a seat belt extender I might block the exit...so she makes a big deal out of finding someone to switch with me and I get up and move. My face stayed red the whole flight... So I know how much it sucks! So shake it off, focus on the future when you wont need to worry about things like this EVER again and you will get there.

    Slime attack & Vomiting

OH MAN...so sorry you had to go through that. Try to get some rest and hopefully you will never ever ever have to do that again!
  22. OK, here's my outsider take...you are not the one being selfish! HE IS! Seriously, with a 3.5 yr old and a 20mth old who walks out the door two days before surgery. I agree you should do what is best for you and your kids...I would ask only one question, do you have family/friends that can help you get back on your feet/help with the little ones?...if not perhaps a postponement of a few weeks while you get arrangements made would allow you to go into surgery with a better peace of mind. You made the decision (a hard one for most) to get the tools you need to be there for your kids, you can make this one as well...
