Just starting 3 month pre-surgery program
4me4them replied to cube68's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Welcome to the forum! Lots of good info and supporting folks here. I am two weeks into my required 3 month supervised diet in preparation for gastric sleeve. Everyone has to select their surgery, with the surgeons recommendations. They all have advantages and disadvantages. I selected the sleeve because I didn't want a permanent medical device in me and I didn't like the idea of the port/fills....but that's just me! Good luck, read all you can, listen to your surgeon and then you'll know which one is right for you. -
I hear your frustration. I would re-engage your nutritionist. I've read many books on weight loss.....many many books. One thing that seems so counterintuitive is that sometimes you can be exercising too much/not eating enough. I think talking to your nutritionist/surgeon and see if you can adjust either your diet or exercise. You've come too far to stop now....this is a mountain climb and you are stuck on the side looking for a foothold...if you give up and slide down, you'll just have start climbing again.

Hang in there....you don't sound like a raving lunatic to me

Went well with my dad....will talk to mom tomorrow. I don't think there is a right answer on this one...each person has to make her own decisions about who to confide in or not. I'm glad you have someone you can tell... PS...thanks for reading my blog...

So I'm going to tell my parents about my WLS. I'm almost 50 (in August) and my parents are in their early 70s and yet I’ve had a hard time deciding whether to tell them. See both are morbidly obese, both have weight related problems, and neither is having the retirement they dreamed of. They are, in some ways why I decided to pursue surgery. Worse than that, they have both become glass half empty kind of folks…not at all like the parents I remember from my childhood. I know they will worry. And then they will worry some more. But here’s the main thing driving my decision to tell them. My husband and I are going to see them this October. My trips to my home town are normally gastronomical tours….fresh baked pepperoni roles from D’Anunzio’s, white cake from Bonnie Bell’s Bakery, calamari and lasagna from Muriel’s….my stomach is growling just typing. Already mom is talking about the new buffet at a state park resort and how we need to go there. I’m using my 3 month doctor supervised diet period to establish good habits and drop what weight I can…and this trip occurs right after that period and about 6 weeks before the date I hope to have surgery. Unfortunately my folks are used to my “health kicks” and if I just tell them I’m on a diet, they might not take it seriously. Actually it was my husband who said “I don’t know if I will be able to not get mad if your mom tries to push food on you”….hmmmm hadn’t thought about it from his point of view. I’ve decided to keep the peace, and to explain my commitment to my new eating habits, I need to have THE TALK. I can’t expect them to be supportive if they don’t know there is something to support. So I’m going to make the call. Tonight. Probably.

So I'm half way there...lol. I did call my folks last night...but my mom was already sleeping so I just talked to my dad. He was very supportive and told me he thought I was making a good decision and that I will be heading off lots of problems in 20 years. I felt so bad. Here I am doing something that if he had done 20 years ago would have made such a difference in his current state of health/happiness. I almost feel guilty....how messed up is that? I've now identified another "opportunity for growth". I'll call back to talk to mom tomorrow.

OK guys, really? You "love' planks? I love what planks do for me but I can not count myself in the I heart planks group! I'll sign up for the "I tolerate planks because they are so freakin good for me" camp.

What are your opinions on eating avocados?
4me4them replied to bakawaka's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Avocado....yes please! -
Man that sucks! I have to do 3 months (just started) and have to lose 5% for my surgeon not the insurance. I tend to be a glass half full kinda gal and while I have never been a good journaler, I'm determined to use this period to 1. establish the habit of food journaling (which a lot of folks on here say works for them) and 2. to get a baseline/look for patterns in my eating that might help me understand the "why" of my weight.

Afraid I'm not gonna lose
4me4them replied to fezik23's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm still preop but I wonder if it is kind of like comparing when babies will walk or talk or stand up. They will all do it, each in her own time. I'm actually writing myself some notes now to open when I get there....I might not want to read what I wrote when I'm stalling, but it might help me remember the big picture/long term.... Hang in there! You did all the stuff you needed to preop and you can do the postop too! -

Fallen off the wagon and can't seem to get up
4me4them replied to Disabledaccount's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't want to pile on, but I'm thinking a food journal with a NUT appointment could help you problem solve and create an action plan to help get you over your speed bump. Myfitnesspal has a pretty good database and it is really easy to track... -
Hi and welcome to the site! I just started my diet on 7 July as well and am also having the sleeve. I'm trying to follow my diet plan from the nutritionist to the letter. I'm hoping that gets me ready. Good luck and I'm sure I'll see you in the forums!

But Tisa you are NOT alone in this...you have US! Your road will be more challenging without their support but you will succeed in spite of it... Keep up the good work!

How many cabs/protein/fats ?
4me4them replied to meatball1's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I'm just in the 3 month diet phase but my NUT said 80-90 gm Protein, no more than 130 gm carbohydrates and the rest of the 1500 calories could come from fat...the healthy kind. don't know if this is what you are looking for or if you are talking about after surgery... -

Congratulations! I'm just starting and stories like yours give me all kinds of inspiration and hope...keep up the good work!

Bummer...could you try a different kind? If it is a taste or texture thing maybe you could thin it down with more Water. There are also Protein "shots" which are not much volume but still have the protein...I think you can get them at Wal-Mart...good luck!

Thanks for posting...I'm still in the 3 month diet phase and I appreciate the honesty....especially today when I'm feeling kind of tired...which is always a food trigger for me. Good luck in the "second act"! Beth
