Calicum citrate
Mayaresearchmom replied to NewLife4Me7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bariatric advantage also has lemon flavored chewy bites. They taste like lemon starburst. You can find them on amazon. -

Starbucks anyone?
Mayaresearchmom replied to golden39's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Decaf, non-fat caffe misto with sugar free vanilla syrup. Only 60 calories, 0 grams of fat, 8 grams of carbs, 6 grams of protein, and 8 grams of sugar for the tall size. If you've ever been to New Orleans and had Cafe au lait at Cafe Dumonde, the taste is almost the same, except for the vanilla. -
Sounds like you might have hit the dreaded 3rd week stall. Just keep getting in your proteins and your fluids. It will pass. I agree that its best not to get on the scale every day.

I agree with Amy, had RNY in June, and lap gall bladder 2 weeks ago. Gall bladder was easier and less painful, but that might have been because the anesthesiologist did an abdominal block on my belly muscles, so I had no pain except for the actual small incisions at skin level for the first 48 hours or so.

going out to eat for the first time this weekend
Mayaresearchmom replied to SDBeachLaw's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I've done just that! Scraped off the toppings and eaten them but left the crust. Had grilled chicken with lots of veggies on the pizza instead of sausage or pepperoni. You can also get Canadian bacon. Some places will actually let you order a crustless pizza. -
Eating Post Op after Gastric Bypass
Mayaresearchmom replied to DimandGirl's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
You may have drank it too fast. My NUT says i can take 40 minutes to drink 8 oz's of a shake, and 20 minutes to set a meal of solid foods. If I try to eat quicker than that, my tummy hurts also. -
worst stomach pain ever!
Mayaresearchmom replied to raeannr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are fat free versions of refried beans. I used those in the pureed phase. Didn't really think there was that much of a difference, until I recently went out to eat mexican, and had some of the restaurants beans. The restaurant beans tasted better, but they hurt my pouch. -
I saw my doc at two weeks post-op, and the NUT at 6 weeks post-op. Will see doc again at 6 months and 12 months, then yearly after that. I'm thinking about it along the lines of seeing your GYN on a yearly basis, it's just something you've got to do.

First meeting with surgery team - trying to decide
Mayaresearchmom replied to ready2B's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I went with a bypass because I already had bad GERD, and the sleeve has been known to increase the amount of reflux you have. Also, according to my doc, bypass patients lose on average 10% more weight than sleeve patients do. It was an easy choice for me when I heard about the decreased GERD with bypass, as I had been miserable for years with my GERD. -
I was just the opposite, I went in totally knowing that I was going to have the sleeve. After talking to my doc, I changed to the bypass. I had bad heartburn, and one of the complications of the sleeve is an increase in acid reflux. Also, sleevers tend to lose about 10% less than bypass patients. I may be vain, but losing an additional 12 pounds with bypass is another size down. I'm on protonix for the first 6 months post-op, but should be able to go off of it at my 6 month follow-up appt. Which means no prescription meds for me after 6 months! I'm totally pleased with my decision to go with bypass as opposed to the sleeve.

Mental Anguish over Decision
Mayaresearchmom replied to Worrier No. 1's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm 52, and I've never had a band, but I did make the decision to have bypass after breaking my leg through the knee joint. I had considered bypass for several years, but it took the ortho doctor telling me that I needed a total knee because my weight caused the fracture repair to fail to get the ball rolling. One thing that he said that really stuck in my head was that for every pound you lose, that is FOUR pounds of pressure off the knee. I'm sure its about the same for the hip. Surgery was 6/10, and I'm down 18 pounds since surgery date, and a total of 29 pounds since 4/26 when I first visited my surgeon. (I was fast tracked because I was self pay) My surgeon does not even do the band anymore because of the number of revisions that she was requested to do in the past few years. I already had bad GERD, so I opted for bypass. I can honestly say this is the best thing I have ever done for myself. I had probably lost and regained the same 29 pounds on WW five or six times over the past 4 years. I'm looking forward to a healthier more active life. At times I think my weight loss should be more, but I am really limited as to walking because of the knee. I know that once I get my knee replacement in October that I will (hopefully) lose quicker. Hope my reply helped. Just consider where you are now, and how much better it could be. I don't think age should be a factor, its quality of life. I work in a doctors office, and I see our older patients who are active and able to do for themselves, even after hip or knee replacemnets, then I see our not so older patients who are barely able to get around after hip or knee replacements because of their weight issues. And I DO NOT want to be a part of the later group. -
Pre op liquid diet

As the old saying goes, just get back on the horse and ride it again. Just make the next 12 days count. It gets easier after the first few days. -
In need of ideas for pureed food
Mayaresearchmom replied to dkelle11's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
One of my first meals was Wendy's chili. It was soooo awesome after all the sweet shakes of the previous weeks. For breakfast, instant cream of wheat made with skim milk, and a tablespoon of smuckers sugar free seedless blackberry jam. -
showering - how long
Mayaresearchmom replied to Dawnakers's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Shower was ok 48 hours after surgery, no baths, swimming pools, or jacuzzi for 3 weeks post-op. -
other protein besides drinking ?
Mayaresearchmom replied to gruiz27's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
There are 6 tablespoons of protein powder in each pack, one pack is 21 grams of protein, or 3.5 grams of protein per tablespoon. I use either 1 or 2 tablespoons at a time, depending on my protein count for the day. I sometimes use the chicken soup flavor one sprinkled on cauliflower or beans just for a little different flavor. -
What ya eating tonight?

Cheese Grits with a morning star sausage patty. LOL, I know it's breakfast food, but it was the only thing that sounded good to me tonight. -

Mayaresearchmom replied to gruiz27's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Get the unflavored protein powder. You can sprinkle it on your veggies or in your soups. Unjury makes a good unflavored one. You can mix it in your flavored yogurt to add a punch of protein. -
I don't think I would worry too much about having one weight that was lower. The insurance company may well consider it as proof of being unable to lose weight and maintain the loss. I had the same type of drop in my weight from weight watchers, but then regained the weight. I was self pay, as my Aetna did not cover WLS, so I didn't have to worry about meeting their requirements.

Baked salmon topped with fresh grated ginger, chopped tomato, chopped onion, sliced yellow bell pepper, capers, salt, pepper and a little olive oil. Baked at 380 for 30 minutes. Yummy! -
