    Disney World!

You'll have to consult your surgeon to see if its, safe for you to ride. Good thing about Disney is there are lots of "lower thrill" rides. If you're worried about fitting, I went at around 350 lbs in 2013 and was able to ride many, many things. I found a great website I kept pulled up on my phone so I knew before I got in line if I could ride it. I'll see if I can find it and I'll post it.

    Hair Loss!

I am 11 weeks post op, and I know we have hair loss, but mine is falling out like crazy! I take 10,000 mcg of Biotin daily and all my other Vitamins. I try not to blow dry it or use the straightener. It is everywhere!!My surgeon says it's normal and will stop, but when?? I'm afraid I'll have nothing left. What are your experiences, any ideas on what I can do to help my hair.
  4. Have your iron checked. I have lo iron and RLS is a symptom of it and being post-op you're probably not absorbing as well.

    Hair issues. Of course

I am just past 3 months out and have been losing by literal handfuls daily. I don't know what to do anymore. It does have to do with where in cycle tyour hair is when you have your surgery. The trauma from surgery and rapid weight loss add to it. I read that it does stop, but I have been hit HARD. I take biotin, get in my protein and vits, but it's not really helping. My hair has never been so thin.

    The easy way?

Nothing easy about a surgical route. I think we know the yo-yo's of traditional dieting and have made the choice to make sure this loss lasts. I personally want to be there for my family, and not just emotionally. I want to be able to experience life. I don't want the diabetes, hbp, aches and pains. So I did something about it that is going to last. I don't have to just dream anymore about someday and think in the back of my head it may never happen.
  7. I'm in Charlotte, did not use him though. I used Craig Kolasch of Southeast Bariatrics. Any recommendations for a great nutritionist?

    Time off work?

Check with your surgeon also. Mine wouldn't clear me for 2 weeks. I thought it would be my choice but it was his. His nurse said that was standard for him.

    Hair Loss!

I am between 60-80 grams per day, most days. Unless I ate something wrong and I hurt, then I pretty much stop eating the rest of the day. From what I've been reading, it completely depends on where your hair is in it's "cycle" on the day of surgery. Major surgery and rapid weight loss trigger the hair loss. Some people aren't as affected as others. Unfortunately, I'm being affected pretty bad. I'm not a vain person, but it is emotionally hard to see this much hair coming out. I hope you stay right there and not lose any!!

    Hair Loss!

I've been reading some articles which all pretty much say that it's just something that happens when a major surgery or rapid weight loss occurs. It can last up to 6 mos. Soooo....I'll just hang in there and maybe try the Ojon or nutri ox. Thanks for the suggestions all!!
  12. I boil and mash sweet potato, cut a butternut or acorn squash in half, lay face down on a baking sheet and bake until soft. Scoop out the squash and that's it. So good.

    Calories

I'm 6 weeks out and I'm between 600-800. That will increase to between 1000-1200.

    Regret?

You have to know that you are giving up your former way of eating. There are very big changes. Regrets-only the first night after surgery. I think that was mainly because I had complications brought on by scar tissue and a couple other things so my surgery was about 4 hours long. I was VERY groggy and out of it, by the next day, I was feeling better. I was in the hospital for 4 days and was ready to get out! I had to take things extra slow. My pain was minimal, my gas was not near as bad as I had heard it would be. I no longer take my HBP, diabetes and cholesterol meds. I check my sugar and blood pressure daily and they are in normal range. My energy is higher and I too can do the stairs with a lot less pain in my knees. So just prepare yourself for the changes...but it is worth it! Good Luck, you'll be great!

    Only 300 calories

When I was 2 weeks post-op i was getting about 450 calories and had lost about 9 lbs since surgery. I was very disappointed with that. Surgeon thought I might need to increase calories, which I did to around 600-700. That seemed to help as my weight loss at my 4 week nutrition appt was 24 lbs. It is not easy to increase those calories since we can hold so little. I feel like I am constantly putting something in my mouth, whether it be liquid, solid or supplement!
  16. I had a 4 week post op visit with my nutritionist and I'm down 24 lbs since the day of surgery and and 44 from my highest weight which was in September. I had been feeling a little discouraged because I was only down 9 lbs at 2 weeks post op. I don't think I was getting enough calories. I was only at about 450/day at that point. So I increased to between 600-800 day. Seems to have worked and got my loss increasing! I know it's not just about the numbers on the scale. SO I'm feeling pretty good too and clothes are definitely fitting better. Encouraged by this visit!!

  17. My instructions say no, you don't have to wait. Only when you start foods.

    New here :)

Your surgeon may have their own list of pre-op procedures. I had to have a sleep study and an EGD. My insurance didn't require those or even the nutrition or psych. My experience with my insurance was a piece of cake. Approved within 2 weeks of submission. If you haven't done nutrition in the past, take advantage of it. I feel everyone should use a nutritionist. My primary had no say in the surgical decision. He told me I'd be a good candidate and sent med records over to my bariatric surgeon but that was it. The surgeon made the decision if I should have it or not. Good luck to you!

Preop diet starts in the morning

DMADDOX1...I am 20 days post op. I will say after surgery my mouth was so so dry I was miserable. I couldn't even talk. I was on ice chips for about a day then upgraded to water. I also am/was diabetic and loved water. So that was hard. I haven't had a sugar reading over 115 since I got home from the hospital!! (In the hospital I was given steroids which I guess raise your sugars.) It will be tough but you can do it! Good luck to all the Decembers!
  20. Hi all!!! This is the beginning of my Journey....Well I started this path back in March although I've been thinking about wls for a couple years. I never had considered it before. I thought it wasn't for me, it was too risky. I was that fat girl for so long that didn't feel fat. I had energy, I was fairly active. But then I got high blood pressure, diabetes and now my cholesterol is high too. With my sleep study I had to have for wls of course I was told I had apnea too. Let's not forget the aches and pains in my hips, knees, back, etc. Plus my energy level has dropped. I could literally nap anywhere! And to top it all off, I just don't FIT in this world. Everywhere I go is a thought process, frustration, worry, embarrassment. My surgery was originally scheduled for October 2nd. In the meantime, I was dealing with "feminine issues." I had to have an ultrasound which determined I had a "mass" that needed to be surgically removed. The plan was to do this a few weeks after my gastric by-pass and I set it all up. So I started my liquid diet and reached day 12. Then I had my pre-op appointment. I told my doctor that I needed to have this other surgery afterwards. He said No, it has to be done first, in case the mass were cancerous, I couldn't be in a malnourished state that gastric by-pass puts you into. I had a feeling going in that I would hear something like that. Well I was happy because I could eat again for awhile. I had the mass removed about a week and a half later. No cancer! I think that surgery really helped mentally prepare me for the "big one" and it's not hanging over my head anymore. So now I'm back on my 2 week pre-op liquid diet. It's just as miserable as it was the first time. But I'm glad to be back on track and am sooo ready for this!!

    It's for real this time!

So I thought I would jump on and update. Had my surgery this past Thursday. It was not without complications and my 1 1/2 hour surgery turned into 4 hours. I came home from the hospital last night. I have to take it very, very slow. I am still on clear liquids only. I can only have protein if it's clear and thin, like the Isopure. Right now it's hard to think about the weight loss that will be coming since I'm trying to process what I just went through. I can't say at this point I would take this route again, but I'm sure my perspective will change the further out I get. I hope everyone else is doing great!
  22. Just working on healing.

    Foods

I cannot live with sf Popsicles. The ones in the yellow box only. I'm on my liquid pre op but could not make it without them.

    It's for real this time!

I'm on the 13th. I bought a jug of Syntrax vanilla and I can't hardly stand it. I like the chocolate. I did that last time. I just can't afford to have 2 right now. I'm soo sick of sweet stuff already. The only thing that makes me happy are the sugar free Popsicles. I'm addicted to those things.
