Yea! A new board for us January people. Woohoo!
jblkmom posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am very interested in supporting others on this journey and I will need support too. My surgery date is January 6 and I am in California! -
I am now 1 week and 1 day postop. I really am past the pain of it all but now I am finding myself hungry. NO! I am so annoyed. I know I can only have liquids at thus time but darn it, I am ready to chew something! The smell of meat is driving me crazy. I want to eat meat so bad. I know, I know, I need to let my body heal but I feel like the next two weeks are going to be torture!

My surgery lasted an hour and maybe 20 minutes but each can be a bit different. My surgeon said an hour is normal.
-
Super excited for you! Good luck. Yes, please check in with us once you are able.

Good Morning All! I can now say that I am on the way better side of the surgery. It took till Friday (surgery was Tuesday) to start feeling normal. Today I feel great! I am sore. I got a full night of sleep and I think that made all the difference. Where are you all at? How are you feeling? Have a great day!!

I can't believe that my surgery day is here. I am mostly excited and a bit of nervous worries. I hate IVs and I as m changing my body for the rest of my live. But change is for the better, right?!?! I have not cheated once on my preop diet. I lost 12.8 pounds this past week. I felt better than I have felt in a long long time. I check in the hospital at 5:30 AM tomorrow. I will post as soon as I can after. Cheers to a new me, you and 2015!

Today felt like a big turn around for me. The last two nights have been really hard. I woke up last night dry heaving because of the gas. I got gas-x today too and it has helped greatly. I no longer need any pain meds. Yes I am still sore but today I was able to nap on my side, my preferred way to sleep. Tomorrow my goal is to start walking, not just around the house. I actually put on real clothes today. I have no appetite at all. I am struggling getting in enough fluids. One odd side effect for me has been a heightened sense of smell. I smell EVERYTHING like crazy. My family will eat away from me and I can smell each item on their plate. Cheers to us! We did it girl! Now we just need to get over this hump and it will be great.

@@anaxila, I got out at 5. It was a horrible night last night too. Way harder at home than the hospital. I had to sleep in a recliner because I couldn't lay flat on my bed. But today seems better. I did get lots of sleep last night. I am moving slow but getting around well. I have no interest in food but I will get my protein shakes down just to get the protein in. We did it!

Today has been tough. I can't wait to get home.
-
Yesterday wasn't too bad. Today has been a bit more painful but so far I am keeping my fluids down nicely and my new pouch seems to be sore but doing ok. I get to go home soon!

I am all hooked up. Just waiting for surgery. Oh. My. This. Is. Real. Can't wait to wake up and start healing. It has been a long 9 months waiting for this.

Hi, I am having surgery on Jan. 6 and would like to be in a monthly support group but there isn't a 2015 group started yet. Who can start this?

For Fun: Beautifying for surgery....

Sugaring doesn't hurt as much as waxing but I won't lie it hurts, especially around the sensitive lady parts. -

I got a Brazilian. I don't want to mess around, lol. Sugaring is a different way of hair removal but a lot like waxing. They use sugar instead of wax. -

I got my hair done and my woohoo sugared (sorry if TMI) today. Might get mani pedi this weekend but no polish on the nails. I will shave my legs the day before along with the special wash they gave me for day before and morning of surgery. I don't want to have to deal with any maintenance for awhile after surgery. -
Surgery is 1/6 Preop diet started yesterday; three Protein shakes a day with two meals (meals = low fat or nonfat yogurt or broth) The day before surgery it is Clear Liquids only Super excited. I am ready for this change!
-
Day 1 done of my pre-op diet. Not too bad but I figure tomorrow and new year's eve are going to be super hard. Last night I tortured my poor son and I made him take all my measurements and take my "before" photos. I weighted myself this morning. I am so excited to see all these numbers drop!
-
My list is this: Calcium (1000-2000mg) B-12 (dissolve kind) Protein shakes Isopure drinks broth Low fat Greek yogurt Carnation instant Breakfast, sugar-free I already have the other Vitamins, pill crusher, comfy clothes for the hospital, Protein powder, timer to wear, and it am sure a few things that I am forgetting.
-
I start the liquid diet Monday and I am starting to stress. I am super ready but I know it will be mentally painful. Today I made notes of all the things I need to buy for next week, the hospital and the first three weeks after surgery. I bought a timer to wear so I can time between sips and meals and drinking.

What are you most anxious about/excited for?

I am looking forward to dating again. Right now I won't even think about it as I just can't bare the thought of being intimate at this point in my life. Cheers to all of us!!!!!!!! So excited. -
I feel like if I don't get this weight off me then I am going to have all the other bad things that happen when you cart around 100 pounds of extra weight, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, joint pain, etc. I would rather have this surgery and get healthy and probably lose some hair but this will grow back.

I need to get on myfitnesspal app. I also just found an app called bariatric timer. It helps with the timing between eating and drinking and meals. -

@sweetgagr100 - it actually wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I had done one before for acid reflux and this one was much less detailed. It was two videos of me drinking that crapy barium stuff and then I had to guzzle the rest of that disgusting stuff and two xrays of my full stomach. For me the worst part is always the blood test. I HATE having my blood drawn. HATE. -

My pre-op appointments were today. I had to get a blood test, EKG and upper GI test. I then met with the nurse to go over all the details of before surgery and after and then I met with the surgeon. My pre-op diet is for one week before surgery. I can have 3 protien shakes a day and 2 meals (meals means, broth Soup or a low-fat yougurt). The day before surgery I can only have Clear liquids. Also, starting three weeks before surgery I have a bunch of Vitamins, Iron and Calcium that I need to start taking. I am getting super excited!!!
