It may be. For me I decided to give my family their time and space when it came to the surgery - I sought support from a therapist and found a great Facebook group for folks going through surgery at the same time. I found with this other support, I didn't need to worry my family when I had worries. It's hard for sure, but don't give up on yourself.

Yes, mostly it comes from a place of fear. If they are willing to go to a seminar you might find they will relax. My parents were against it and never agreed with it, but they are at peace with it now since they see I'm getting healthy and totally fine.

It will get easier! Find a Facebook support group for fall surgeries that way you have people going through it with you and it's more personal. I belong to a July fb group and would not survive with out those folks.

Not losing enough weight
Mellyb251 replied to brendaliz_r's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was sleeved July 24th and have lost 21lbs since surgery which is frustrating, but my doctor said 2lbs a week is perfect. Have you tried tracking your calories and adding in the gym? That finally broke my recent stall because I realized that I wasn't getting enough calories. Tracking in your head isn't as good as actually recording it in an app. -
I second the advice of getting caffeine out of your system before surgery since withdrawals aren't pretty. Also the not buying the huge tubs of Protein since I bought three and I liked them before surgery, but now they disgust me! Also be your own advocate - I didn't want to rock the boat when my bariatric coordinator told me that she submitted to insurance and not to call her for two weeks since she was so busy only to find out at the end of that two weeks she had not really submitted. She told me not to call the insurance company directly, but I did and was approved within 10 days after it was really submitted.

Anybody here have probs w/ Planet Fitness and ending your membership?
Mellyb251 replied to mi75's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I think I had to pay like $60 when I quit, which wasn't too bad and that was nyc where gym memberships are typically $80 a month -

Halloween - I was starving the moment I woke up from surgery and it may have been from acid, but food made it stop hurting so I believe it was a combo - anyways I couldn't take it after about ten days out, so I started adding 1/4 cup cottage cheese in and it made such a difference. I'm not saying you should go against your doctors plans, but I think it's important to listen to our bodies since we all heal at different rates. I also started soft food three weeks out, I'm 7 weeks out and don't have any issues.

My case wasn't as bad, but I waited the two weeks after the doctors office had submitted only to call and find out that they had forgotten to submit. I threw a temper tantrum (by myself) and then sucked it up and waited another two weeks for the real submission. I'm a month out from surgery, but I still can't even look at the girl who lied to me when I go to the office. I was going to complain but was afraid it would mess about my surgery/billing somehow.

I think all the hormones being released as we lose weight combined with the need to find something to file the void of emotional eating might be behind some of the snarky posts. I love the title of this post

Got laid off 1st day back to work from surgery
Mellyb251 replied to DanaKat's topic in Rants & Raves
I think you will be better off in the long run and will find something that makes you happy With that being said, I don't agree with the lawsuit mentioned by others, that will only bring you down. Get the unemployment and enjoy your extended recovery. -
I think it has a lot to do with height also. We aren't comparing apples to apples if one person is 5'4 and the next is 5'7.

Cheating on Pre-Op
Mellyb251 replied to mamaofmatthew's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on an all liquid pre-op diet - which I followed strictly at least 10 of the 14 days. The other days I cheated with a hard boiled egg because I was so hungry. I lost about 13lbs and my doc said my liver was perfect. I have to say a couple times a day I would come on here looking for someone to justify cheating on my pre-op diet and I always had to take myself back from the ledge of food. I hate to say it but whatever you do pre-op, you will do post op unless you break the habits now. -
Would you do it again if you knew....?
Mellyb251 replied to marie44's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'm only five days post-op and I don't regret it. I do freak out realizing I can't eat an entire pizza ever again. Lucky for me i know this addiction journey. I gave up alcohol 3 years ago, at first I was in disbelief I had really given it up. Then I went through the envy phase - why can everyone else drink and control themselves and I can not. It took a long time to not stare at others drinking or feel awkward going out in drinking environment. I just have to be patient knowing that I will soon enter my envy stage and it will take time before my mind stops craving the food and I move on. -

I'm almost 3 weeks Pre-op and other people seem much more excited than I do.
Mellyb251 replied to Blazzrr's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You literally read my mind - when I found out I was approved it was so anti-climatic for me. I started this journey to get approved last November so I'm just tired from jumping through the hoops. My fiancé was standing next to me when I found out and was surprised that I wasn't super excited. I think part of it is fear of actually going through with the surgery and the other part is a fear that something will come up in the next two weeks that will prevent me from getting the surgery. Maybe we are saving all our excitement for when we get skinny -

Mellyb251 replied to MistyAnnMoon829's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes! I am July 24th also. I just started my liquid pre-op diet today. I'm starving and can't wait for July 24th to be here already!
