    Any old timers still around?

I'm still around, but unfortunately not a bandster anymore. My band slipped again in September of last year, They went in to take it out and revise to a Bypass and found my stomach to enflamed to proceed so they took the band out and decided to wait until my stomach recovered to finish the procedure. You really don't want to wake up from surgery to the words, sorry, we couldn't do your procedure. Not a good thing at all. After healing for about four months (and gaining close to 50 of the 85 lbs I had lost, I had a RNY gastric bypass on December 1. It has been very sucessful and much to my pleasure they discovered why the band hadn't worked. I had a two inch hiatal hernia that was messing up the works. Now that that has been repaired I am losing weight again and feel better than I have in two years. I am down about 33 lbs from surgery date so I still have a ways to go. It has been a frustrating journey but one that I think was worth it. I would have probably started with the band even if I had known how it was going to turn out because learning to live with the band was great preparation for the Bypass. It has been a very smooth transition. Hope everyone else is doing well. I look forward to hearing from some of my Lapband friends. Take care
  5. Hello Pat, I was looking through this website trying to find some people that have gone to SSM weightloss at DePaul and happened upon you. I too have chosen Dr.Scott, although I just got approval from insurance Tuesday. I was curious how the band has worked for you and what to expect at the pre-op class on Feb 3rd. I am a little nervous about having this foreign object in my body, can you feel that something is different inside of you? It's so miraculous, what advice can you give to me? I have gathered from other posts that it takes about 6-8 weeks to get the first fill, so they are full of hunger and slow weightloss. Any advice you can give would be appreciated. I guess I'll have my surgery with in the next 6 weeks..

  6. Hi. I am new to the sight and I saw that you have Anthem Blue Preferred for insurance. I have the same insurance in Indiana. I was wondering if you could tell me the procedure you had to go through and how long it took you to get approve. Thank you, Gidget

Victorious Valentines - Feb. 08 - MASTER THREAD!

Hi All! Sounds like everyone is pretty busy. I got my first fill, 2cc, on Thursday. I have absolutely no restriction and had gained quite a bit but no one at the doctor's office seemed too concerned and the doctor told me that I had a larger band now and it would take time. I'm trying to take him at his word but I HATE seeing the scale go the wrong way. I go back in January for another fill. He tends to be overly conservative so I guess I will do the holiday's on my own.:smile2: It's nice to be able to eat without pain:eek: but I hate gaining weight! Have a great week everyone.
  8. It slipped and all of a sudden I couldn't eat anything but clear liquids, not fun. They took all the fluid out, got out exactly the same amount they put in, did an upper GI and upper endoscopy and determined that the band had prolapsed and needed to be replaced. I got the results on Thursday and had surgery on Tuesday. The good part is that my insurance paid for most of it but the bad part is that I can eat pretty much anything I want right now. (not supposed to but can) Get my first fill in a couple of weeks so maybe that will help.

Sorry to hear the job didn't go the way you wanted. Hopefully something better will come along (that won't require another move) Did you get your snow? This weather is really weird, Where did fall go, it's only October. I love snow, but it is a little early!
  10. Hi Pat, good to hear from you. Sorry to hear you had to have your band replaced. Would like to know your sircumstance cause I'm haveing my band checked to see if it's leaking, if so mine has to be replaced also. Hope to hear from you soon. John,

Congratulations! It's worth it to gain a little weight for that reason. Best Wishes.

Congratulations. I have to wear my wedding rings on my right hand because they are way to big for the left. I don't want to resize them until I'm closer to goal. I wear my mother's ring (the one with my kid's birthstones) and an cheap wedding band on my left hand to hold it in place. Good problem to have.

LilMiss, I am so glad you got some encouragement from your doctor. Keep those appointments (I know that is what motivates me to eat right) You can do this, A tight band is the worst nightmare a banster can have, I'll be interested in knowing what the upper GI shows. Hopefully they will be able to head off any major problems before they get to the "emergency" stage. Getting back to the basics is the right start! Tapshoes, Hang in there, the body likes to send us on merry chases sometimes. Get back to the basics! It's easy to slip off the track (says she who ate gallons of lobster bisque instead of low fat cottage cheese) but you can get back. Let your tool work for you. Get back to eating the good proteins first and drinking lots of water and it will work. Ezma, Keeping busy is what works best for me when I'm off track. When I'm busy I don't think about food all the time so I don't graze. Fast food isn't necessarily bad if you are only eating it at mealtime. McFlurries?? a necessary evil! Just don't overdo it. enjoy fixing up your rental property and I hope you get good renters fast! Shiny, How is the unpacking going? Any word on hubby's job? Mine is starting shift work again next week, ugh! one month days, one month evening and one month nights before he starts the whole cycle over again. he's not a happy camper right now. but it's four 10 hour days on and three off so I think he'll adjust. the question is, will I. As for me, I had a busy weekend. Weighed in at curves and am back down to half a pound less than when we left on vacation so I'm happy. Made a quick trip to my dad's for a family friend's funeral. Sad, but good to see the family. Nibbled too much in the car on the way home, Why do I let myself buy chex mix? Still trying to unpack from the trip and making poodle skirts for the neices halloween costumes. Haven't started mine yet. Yes, I'm making myself a poodle skirt for halloween. It'll be a hoot. Hope you all have a wonderful week. Love ya!

My trip was great, and many things that we did, I would never have attempted at my former weight. It was really neat to be able to climb on rocks and walk along the beach without huffing and puffing. Congrats on the house, Shiny, I hope it works out well for you. Keeping good thoughts for hubby's job. LilMiss, good to see you on facebook. Just remember, you have to do what is right for you! No one else can determine what is right for you except you. I think my band had been misplaced for a long time because the one I have now feels so different but the band is what I have wanted all along, for you, a different fix may be better. The important thing is you shouldn't have to struggle to eat and be comfortable. Hang in there! Catch you all later.
