    Any old timers still around?

I'm still around, but unfortunately not a bandster anymore. My band slipped again in September of last year, They went in to take it out and revise to a Bypass and found my stomach to enflamed to proceed so they took the band out and decided to wait until my stomach recovered to finish the procedure. You really don't want to wake up from surgery to the words, sorry, we couldn't do your procedure. Not a good thing at all. After healing for about four months (and gaining close to 50 of the 85 lbs I had lost, I had a RNY gastric bypass on December 1. It has been very sucessful and much to my pleasure they discovered why the band hadn't worked. I had a two inch hiatal hernia that was messing up the works. Now that that has been repaired I am losing weight again and feel better than I have in two years. I am down about 33 lbs from surgery date so I still have a ways to go. It has been a frustrating journey but one that I think was worth it. I would have probably started with the band even if I had known how it was going to turn out because learning to live with the band was great preparation for the Bypass. It has been a very smooth transition. Hope everyone else is doing well. I look forward to hearing from some of my Lapband friends. Take care

Victorious Valentines - Feb. 08 - MASTER THREAD!

Hi All! Sounds like everyone is pretty busy. I got my first fill, 2cc, on Thursday. I have absolutely no restriction and had gained quite a bit but no one at the doctor's office seemed too concerned and the doctor told me that I had a larger band now and it would take time. I'm trying to take him at his word but I HATE seeing the scale go the wrong way. I go back in January for another fill. He tends to be overly conservative so I guess I will do the holiday's on my own.:smile2: It's nice to be able to eat without pain:eek: but I hate gaining weight! Have a great week everyone.
  3. It slipped and all of a sudden I couldn't eat anything but clear liquids, not fun. They took all the fluid out, got out exactly the same amount they put in, did an upper GI and upper endoscopy and determined that the band had prolapsed and needed to be replaced. I got the results on Thursday and had surgery on Tuesday. The good part is that my insurance paid for most of it but the bad part is that I can eat pretty much anything I want right now. (not supposed to but can) Get my first fill in a couple of weeks so maybe that will help.

Sorry to hear the job didn't go the way you wanted. Hopefully something better will come along (that won't require another move) Did you get your snow? This weather is really weird, Where did fall go, it's only October. I love snow, but it is a little early!

Congratulations! It's worth it to gain a little weight for that reason. Best Wishes.
  6. Hey John, How are you? I haven't heard from you in a long time. I had to have my band replaced last month. doing well now though. Take care of yourself.

Congratulations. I have to wear my wedding rings on my right hand because they are way to big for the left. I don't want to resize them until I'm closer to goal. I wear my mother's ring (the one with my kid's birthstones) and an cheap wedding band on my left hand to hold it in place. Good problem to have.

LilMiss, I am so glad you got some encouragement from your doctor. Keep those appointments (I know that is what motivates me to eat right) You can do this, A tight band is the worst nightmare a banster can have, I'll be interested in knowing what the upper GI shows. Hopefully they will be able to head off any major problems before they get to the "emergency" stage. Getting back to the basics is the right start! Tapshoes, Hang in there, the body likes to send us on merry chases sometimes. Get back to the basics! It's easy to slip off the track (says she who ate gallons of lobster bisque instead of low fat cottage cheese) but you can get back. Let your tool work for you. Get back to eating the good proteins first and drinking lots of water and it will work. Ezma, Keeping busy is what works best for me when I'm off track. When I'm busy I don't think about food all the time so I don't graze. Fast food isn't necessarily bad if you are only eating it at mealtime. McFlurries?? a necessary evil! Just don't overdo it. enjoy fixing up your rental property and I hope you get good renters fast! Shiny, How is the unpacking going? Any word on hubby's job? Mine is starting shift work again next week, ugh! one month days, one month evening and one month nights before he starts the whole cycle over again. he's not a happy camper right now. but it's four 10 hour days on and three off so I think he'll adjust. the question is, will I. As for me, I had a busy weekend. Weighed in at curves and am back down to half a pound less than when we left on vacation so I'm happy. Made a quick trip to my dad's for a family friend's funeral. Sad, but good to see the family. Nibbled too much in the car on the way home, Why do I let myself buy chex mix? Still trying to unpack from the trip and making poodle skirts for the neices halloween costumes. Haven't started mine yet. Yes, I'm making myself a poodle skirt for halloween. It'll be a hoot. Hope you all have a wonderful week. Love ya!

My trip was great, and many things that we did, I would never have attempted at my former weight. It was really neat to be able to climb on rocks and walk along the beach without huffing and puffing. Congrats on the house, Shiny, I hope it works out well for you. Keeping good thoughts for hubby's job. LilMiss, good to see you on facebook. Just remember, you have to do what is right for you! No one else can determine what is right for you except you. I think my band had been misplaced for a long time because the one I have now feels so different but the band is what I have wanted all along, for you, a different fix may be better. The important thing is you shouldn't have to struggle to eat and be comfortable. Hang in there! Catch you all later.

Victorious Valentines - Feb. 08 - MASTER THREAD!

Sounds like everyone is hanging in there, ups and down's as usual. We are finally back from Vacation. It was AMAZING. We saw some beautiful territory in 10 states, 13 different hotels, over 4,000 miles, but it was worth it all. I climbed to the top of a light house, something the pre-band Pat would never have attempted, waded in the ocean, walked miles along the beach, drove througth the mountains, road a boat right up to the base of Niagra Falls, and visited both the Pennsylvania and Ohio Amish communities. All in all it was a great trip. The best part is I only gained two pounds! I ate a lot of Lobster Bisque, Clam Chowder (the creamy kind) and Crab cakes. (My diet was limited due to my recent surgery but I made out OK.) I have four weeks before my next doctor's appointment to lose those two and a few more. I'm still below 200 so I'm thrilled.

Just checking in. I'm feeling well, just very tired most of the time. I'll be glad to get some solid food soon. We leave tomorrow for two weeks' vacation to see the New England Fall Color and my aunt in Pennsylvania. It should be a great tear. I hope the weather there is as beautiful as it is here today. Everyone get out and enjoy the beautiful fall weather. Talk to you soon. Pat

Irene, I am so sorry you continue to have problems with your band. Have they checked to see if it has slipped. Apparently that is what was causing my pain. Now that my band is back where it belongs I have no pain. Today I actually got to eat soup!!!! I'm having cottage cheese for dinner. Can you remember back when a few bites of cottage cheese was a thrill? I saw the doctor today. He took out my staples, YEAH I am below 200 lbs. I haven't seen these kinds of numbers in probably 20 years. I'm pretty excited. I get my first fill in six weeks. We'll see how it goes. I'm a little afraid to get a fill, remembering the pain I had before but I don't want my weight to go the wrong way either. I've been cleared to go on our vacation so we leave on Wednesday morning We are headed to the Northeast to see the fall foliage and the Amish in Pennsylvania. It should be fun. Melissa. so sorry to hear you have to move again. Moving in any event is a drag. I hope you find the perfect house that you can stay in for a while. Everyone take care!

Welcome Ramona! Dr. Scott did both of my lap band surgeries. I was originally banded February 15, 2008. My band slipped a couple of months ago so I was re-banded on September 15. I'm feeling well and pretty much back to normal. I'm down about 7 lbs since surgery for a total of 93 or so lost. I see the doctor on Thursday to get my staples out. I can hardly wait. You will find that this is the best decision you can make for yourself. Make sure you go to support group. The band people meet on the first Wednesday of the month at the May Center and the whole group meets on the third Wednesday of the month at the May Center. They have many interesting topics and it helps get questions answered and a time to share experiences. I hope to see you there. Have a great day!!

Thanks Ezma, It is a point I never thought I would reach. The 100 lb mark will be fun too. Only 7 lbs away from that so hopefully soon. I just want to eat something other than clear/sugar free liquids. How did you house inspections go. I can relate, my daughter just sold her house and those inspections can be a problem. Hers worked out fairly well and she closes on Thursday.

Shiny, your cake is beautiful! I could use a piece right now. protein shakes and hot tea aren't really doing it for me but, I get soup and cottage cheese on Thursday. I'm hanging on. I went to the store last night and got some elastic waist pants for our trip because I don't think I will be wearing a belt for a while. Knit pants are better for travel anyway. We leave on our vacation a week from Tuesday. Tap, Wow, size 8. I haven't worn a size 8 since I was eight. I was just thrilled to by large's and have them be a bit big. You go girl! ckkjteawallace, I'm sorry you weren't able to get your band replaced. Keep up what you have been doing and enjoy nice big salads and lots of fresh veggies. You can do this!!!! Make sure you stay in touch so we will know how you are doing. You will always be a Victorious Valentine. My big news!!!!! I broke 200 this morning. I won't change the ticker until I see the Doctor on Thursday but this morning on my scale I was at 198!!!!! It's been about 20 years since I was there. I guess these liquids are good for something . You all have a wonderful day!

Carb withdrawl is no fun. I'm going to try and stay away from them from now on. It's no fun withdrawing from them.

Nicole, hope your surgery went well and you are starting to get up and about. I'm finally starting to feel human again. Do you have to do the post op diet again? It's hard.

Victorious Valentines - Feb. 08 - MASTER THREAD!

I'm not sure why but when I asked him before the surgery if he was going to change the port and tubing, he said yes. I wasn't about to question why, he is the surgeon and knows what he is doing. The new port site is about an inch below the old one, right where the belt on my jeans goes so I'm not sure how that is going to work out. I'm just thrilled to have a new one so I'm not going to complain. (at least not to Dr. Scott.) Today being day 3 post-op I feel like I've been hit by a mac truck. I'm sipping Isopure, blowing into my little breathing thingy and cursing the charter man because my cable isn't working. At least my internet is working so I can vent here. Love you all. Pat

I'm home with a brand new lapband. I'm not sure I'm happy with where he put the new port but very thankful I have one so I won't complain. :tt1: So far the recovery has been very smooth. I walked and walked around the hospital. Coming home pretty much wore me out. Thanks for your good wishes and prayers.

I hope they are going to be able to replace the band. As of noon today the insurance hadn't signed off on the surgery so I'm not at all sure. I certainly want them to replace it. I don't want to think about living without it. Thanks for all your support. It helps a lot. I should be back online in a day or two.

Victorious Valentines - Feb. 08 - MASTER THREAD!

I feel very much like I did 19 months ago when I was waiting for my first surgery. So far I haven't heard if the insurance has approved it yet but the hospital called to get me pre-register so I am assuming it's a go. I think in many ways I am more nervous this time, I know where the pains are going to be. ckkjteawallace, wish you well Wednesday. I'll be thinking about you while I'm sipping isopure and walking around the nurses station waiting to go home. Hope everyone else is having a splendid week.

I hope your procedure goes well. I'm glad I didn't have to wait three months to figure it out. My Doc said it should be no problem to replace the band in the same surgery that they remove mine so I'm glad about that. Not looking forward to the Post-op diet again, although there will be an end to this and I am awfully tired of Isopure and chicken broth. Now I am just waiting for them to schedule it, but they can't do that until my insurance says it is OK. Gotta love American Insurance Companies.:blushing::w00t:

I am so sorry to hear that you have had these problems. I know what you mean by not liking pain. It is a daily thing for me right now too. I see my doctor in about two hours to find out what he wants to do about my band. We know there is a prolaps and we don't think there is any stomach erosion so the nurse indicated that they could probably replace the band. I hope I don't lose it alltogether because while I am not quite to goal, my weight has been stable for a year and that has never happened before. Good luck to you! When is your surgery?
