I went to my pre-op class yesterday. I am very impressed with the program and Dr. Scott. My surgery will be February 15. The classes were very interesting and informative. I plan to go to the seminar on February 6 also so maybe we will see each other. I am going so my husband can get the information about the surgery. He wasn't able to go with me yesterday so I think he can be more supportive if he has heard it from the doctor.

I have a date. I will get my band at DePaul Hospital on February 15. Dr. Scott is my surgeon. I met him yesterday and I really like him. He is very soft spoken and very thorough. The staff at DePaul is great.

I have a date!:hurray: I get my band on February 15. Two weeks from tomorrow. Wow it is going to go fast. Got lots of great information yesterday. It was a very long day but I met a lot of people who will be banded around the same time I will so I will see familiar faces at the support group meetings. No pre-op diet! just have to eat light the day before surgery. To say I am excited is a vast understatement. This is really going to happen!

Unjury...Who likes it and who doesn't?
StLouisGal replied to tyme4change's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
There must be something wrong with my smeller because I can't even smell it. -
Good luck getting back to St. Louis. Can you catch an earlier flight. They aren't calling for very nice weather but it isn't supposed to hit until about rush hour. Good luck tomorrow. I'm excited for you.

Unjury...Who likes it and who doesn't?
StLouisGal replied to tyme4change's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I like Unjury. I have the chocolate with skim milk in the morning and then I have a strawberry sorbet mixed in Crystal light lemonade in the afternoon. It's better really cold but it has a smooth taste. Somtimes I add a squirt of sugar free daVince syrup to kick up the flavor. I think the chicken soup tasted ok but I like my broth much warmer than 130 degrees. Luke warm chicken broth didn't do it for me. -
I have my consult tomorrow....any advice??
StLouisGal replied to Startingover!'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
drinking a lot of Water before you go is more effective than weights, they can't check for that. just make sure they weigh you before you head to the bathroom. My consult is tomorrow too. Good luck to us both! -
PreOp appt TODAY
StLouisGal replied to michelle9003's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only took a week when I had my gall bladder out but I should have taken another week. I was teaching second grade at the time so if you are able to sit at your job you might be ok in a week. I am not banded yet and didnt' have them done at the same time so I probably don't know what I am talking about. You are way better off having them done at the same time rather than lose a little weight and have to go back in for the gallbladder. Be glad they discovered it before you had symptoms. Gallbladder symptoms are bad. Good luck! -
Carry a measuring cup in my purse? ADVICE needed...
StLouisGal replied to MamaJava's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Use a bread plate to put the food you plan to eat on and either put the rest in a to go box or have the server take it away or offer it to your table companions. Order from the senior menu because it is usually smaller portions and/or less side items. (that is if you are old enough to pass for a senior or the restaurant isn't too picky about who orders from it, usually if you explain you are on a special food plan they will let you) The kids menu might be an option too, especially if you are ordering in. You might also try ordering a cup of soup and eating very slowly. As long as you don't eat out too often it shouldn't throw your weight loss efforts too much. -
PreOp appt TODAY
StLouisGal replied to michelle9003's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there Michelle. I know hwat you mean, my pre-op appointment is Wednesday and I am pretty nervous too. Excited, but nervous too. -
I sure hope not. I am really quite tired of waiting. Wednesday I will know something.
-
My letter doesn't specify a date in the letter. I will be scheduled as of Wednesday. Apparently this is the way my clinic always does it. I will be sure and ask if there is a time limit when I see the doctor on Wednesday. Thanks for the information. I really appreciate it.
-
Good luck on your journey. I'm going for my pre-op classes this week. I'll know more about when my surgery is and the details after Wednesday So far I've been very impressed with the Weight Loss Institute and have heard really good things about the docs. I'll post more on Wednesday evening.

Welcome Back AmyMT. Glad it went well. I'm excited about joining you on the band wagon soon. Enjoy your down time.
-
I'm still in a holding pattern. I go for my pre-op classes and testing next Wednesday. They will schedule the surgery then. I am hoping for mid Feb but it all depends on what additional testing the surgeon wants. It's kind of a pain but whatever it takes to make this a safe surgery. In the mean time I am trying to lose a little weight on my own. I've lost about 10 pounds and feel much, much better. I think my surgeon only operates at my hospital on Wednesdays but I'm not 100% sure about that either. I'm still hanging in and looking forward to Wednesday.

I am so excited for you (ooops I already said that, but I am) Your long wait is nearly over. Congrats!:rolleyes2:

Welcome back. I'm so glad it went well for you. Take it easy and don't try to do too much too soon. -
Good luck Amy, By this time tomorrow you will be on the band wagon. Enjoy the journey.
-

That is so awesome! :rolleyes2: You are off to a terrific start. My first goal is to lose 50 pounds by six months after surgery. You are over half way there. Way to go!!! How are you feeling?

The psycologist at my weight loss center said 64 ounces of liquid, including Soup, crystal light, Jello, etc. We have to avoid Caffeine for the first year and no soda. Obviously Water is the best for us but anything that is made up of mostly water is counted as a liquid. I haven't met with the dietitian yet to get his/her take but I know that drinking artifically sweetened drinks make me hungry so I try to avoid them.

Calling all Feb. Bandsters! Tell us about yourself!
StLouisGal replied to Gibson's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
 Hi, As my name implies, I am from St. Louis, I am 54, the mother of two grown children, married to the love of my life for 32 years:heart:, have struggled with my weight and yo-yo diets most of my adult life. My weight at the start of this journey was 289, my goal is 155. Haven't been that weight since I graduated from High School. I am waiting to get my surgery date but hope it will be sometime in February. -
Are you going through the DePaul weight loss clinic. I am seeing Dr. Scott there. I have heard very good things about both doctors. My pre-op class is January 30.:girl_hug: That is when I will get my surgery date. I hope it will be sometime in February.

Funny things happen when you start to age.
StLouisGal replied to crazycat's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wrinkles are one of my biggest fear in this whole process. I have always looked much younger than I am because the fat fills in the wrinkles. :waytogo: I agree with Crazy Cat, if a few wrinkles is what the price I have to pay for being thin I guess it will be ok.
