    4 Months out

On the 16th, I will be 4 months out. I was a conversion from band. I have lost 45 lbs and am about 35 from my ultimate goal weight, which is 130. My surgeons goal weight is 150. My weight loss has been painfully slow but I am still chugging along. I'm averaging about 2lbs a week now. My hunger has definitely come back and I'm trying to keep it in check with increased Water. Before I had to force myself not to eat, now I have to stop myself from eating. I don't have cravings for sweets, which I am so thankful for. I haven't really tried anything sweet except for one bite of my DD's birthday cake. I have no idea if I am a dumper and really have no plans to eat sweets. I can however eat everything else. I keep thinking that I'm going to come across a food that bothers my new stomach, but it hasn't happened yet. I can eat dairy, all meats, veggies, etc. I am loving my new self. I am down to a size 10 jeans and medium tops. I almost think I could be happy at this size but I know what I weighed in my 20's (40 now) and I would like to try and get back to that. Good luck everyone and keep it up.
  2. This was my number one concern before surgery. My hair is fine and thin and was already thinning on top. I had surgery Sept 16th and my hair started coming out at the two month mark and it's still coming out. When I wash my hair, my hands are covered in hair. It's everywhere in my house. I'm hoping it starts to slow down soon, otherwise I'm going to have to buy a wig.
  3. I had my band removed and rny in September. I kept second guessing my decision to have the RNY. I really wanted the sleeve but decided I needed the malabsorption to keep me on track. The first week was rough but otherwise I haven't had any problems. I would do it again in a heartbeat. I am losing a bit slower than normal RNY patients but I'm very happy with my results. Good luck

    Apple juice

Those are natural sugars. I was allowed to dilute those types of juices on my program. It's really not that good for you. If you must drink it I would dilute it to about 25%.

    3 weeks post op

I don't have a band but I can recommend smaller utensils. I eat with a very small spoon. It makes such a difference.

    Having some issues

That rash is most likely a fungal rash. Go to the doctor and get a prescription for nystatin powder or cream. Keep it clean and dry.
  7. I had mine done in one procedure. I am now about six weeks post op from my revision. My surgeon told me he was about 50/50 on doing it all at once. It really depends on the tissue around the band. There was no way to tell until he was in there and could assess everything. I was scared to death I would wake up and not have the bypass done. I had a few bumps since surgery but feel great now. It's so nice not to be vomiting day in and day out. I had an awful time with my band and feel like a new person. They did tell me I would lose weight slower than people who didn't have the band and I've definitely experienced that. The day of surgery I weighed 200 lbs and now weigh 181. So I've lost about 19 lbs in six weeks. Good luck with you appointment.

When Can I Take a Bath?!

I have to wait six weeks. You should not submerge your incisions in dirty bath water. Trust me.
  10. Thanks for all the suggestions. I knew that there would be stalls, I was just surprised it happened so soon after surgery. I am back to losing again, a pound or two here. I'm doing everything I should. Just spend 45 minutes on the treadmill at the gym. I've decided to stay positive and keep working hard to get to my goal. Thanks again!

    4 week weigh in...

I completely understand. I had bypass a little over 3 weeks ago and I stalled 10 days post-op. The scale did not move for a week and a half. Finally last weekend it started going down little by little. I've only lost a total of 13 lbs since surgery. I know it's frustrating. I even came here and complained about it and asked for advice. I am thankful that I'm losing and my clothes are so loose. Keep up the good work and hang in there.
  12. Just because he can eat it doesn't mean he should. Is he really hungry? I had surgery a few days before him and I can tell you I have no interest in eating. I eat because I have to. I portion out 2oz of food on a small plate and eat that for my meals. I would definitely check with his surgeon. Your husband needs to remember that his suture lines are still healing and it's not really a good idea to put pressure on them by eating too much.
  13. I've been going back and forth about posting this here but I'm starting to get very discouraged and I was hoping someone could chime in with some suggestions for me. I had surgery on Sept 16th. I'm about 2.5 weeks out of surgery. I've had a fairly easy recovery; minimal pain, no bowel issues, a couple of bouts with nausea but I'm pretty much back to my old self again with the exception of my eating habits. Within the first 10 days, I lost about 9 lbs which I thought was great. Since then, nothing, nada. The number on my scale has been the exact same with I find incredibly confusing and discouraging. I'm still in phase 2 of my plan, which is full liquids. I understand that everyone is different when it comes to weight loss but I would think that the scale would have moved some. I will say that I don't have as much to lose as most people. I weighed 199.9 on the day of surgery but still. I'm not really counting calories because I'm not taking in a whole lot of food. My Protein shakes are 160 calories each so I'm getting about 320 calories from that. For Breakfast I have about an ounce of light greek yogurt thinned with a touch of skim milk. This accounts for about 50 calories, maybe. For lunch and dinner I have about 1.5 oz of cream of chicken Soup thinned with skim milk so about 100 calories total. I probably have about 500-600 calories a day. I'm taking in about 48-50 oz of Water daily. Am I eating too little? Any suggestions would be so helpful!! Thanks
  14. I"m 11 days post op and have to say that I really love this stage of not feeling hungry. I seriously wish I could stay like this forever. Sadly though, I know that's not going to happen. When did your hunger come back and when it did, was it as strong as it was before surgery? Thanks Sharon
  15. I'm 11 days post-op and am definitely tiring of the same foods. My surgeon is very conservative when it comes to advancing foods. I was only allowed Clear liquids the first week after surgery. Since Wednesday, I've been advanced to full liquids and will be for two weeks. I've been "eating" strained cream Soups, greek yogurt thinned with skim milk, Protein shakes, and lots and lots of Water. I'm not allowed pudding or cottage cheese. After the full liquids, I'm on pureed/mushy foods for another two weeks. I cannot wait to get to the mushy stage. LOL. For some strange reason I've been craving tuna and egg salad. Hang in there, it will get better. Sharon
