Dealing with Naysayers...
rmckellips replied to coastalchick's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I figure no matter what u do in life people will be critical. Even if u lost weight on your own, there will always be someone negative or talking about you. So, yes, do what's best for u not them. -
I can't believe my surgery is tomorrow. Went through a panic moment this afternoon but now I'm feeling better. The prep isn't very fun the day before surgery but like anything this too shall pass (literally)????. I pray for no complications! I will post again postoperative.

Actually, the surgeon cancelled my surgery 15 minutes before my surgery time. I had my IV started and the anesthesiologist saw me. The surgeon looked at my abdomen and saw a couple superficial scratches and said if he had to convert to an open procedure, one of them would be in the area and he didn't want to risk infection. I'm a nurse and I was in complete shock to cancel surgery because of a couple superficial scratches. I have never seen that before. So, I am switching surgeons and hoping to have the surgery in January or Feb. I was so bummed.

Same thing happened yesterday to me. I got a call after breakfast and the bariatric clinic called and said they were moving my surgery up to Dec 4 from January 14. Day 1.5 of liquid diet. Thanksgiving will be tough but next Thanksgiving will be much better!!! Good luck everyone on your surgery. -

Need help - What did I do wrong
rmckellips replied to BigDude's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree. For me, I started out not telling anyone about my decision except for husband and kids. After awhile, I thought I don't give a crap what people think and they would find something else to judge me about. Now, I don't care it's my decision not theirs. I had a Dr. I work with say, that seems so extreme to have surgery for weight loss. Wow! I wonder how he advices his morbidly obese patients? Oh, just diet and exercise..( been there done that!!!) -

How about some NSVs!?!?
rmckellips replied to shyanne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love all the great successes. So inspiring while I'm in the waiting process for surgery. Hopefully end of Nov or Dec. I can't wait for the day I don't have to go to Lane Giant for my clothes and underwear! -
Im hoping for a November/December date. I have my 4th month nut appt tomorrow...getting excited. I dont have to lose any weight just the 2wk liquid diet before the surgery. I guess I shouldnt say "just"cause the 2wk liquid diet will be tough. I feel like I should lose weight before surgery and exercise to help be in better shape for surgery. Good luck everyone in your journey.

Looking for November Buddies
rmckellips replied to StabMyFinger's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am looking at end of November and going through all the requirements. Next week is my 4th nutrition appt. Getting more and more excited. I have to do this for my health and for myself. I am 44 and my primary dr encouraged me to do the bypass because of my family history of premature heart disease and obesity. My Dr said its not if u have a heart attack, its when because when I go into menopause I wont have estrogen to protect me anymore. Needless to say, Im anxious to get through this process for my health. -
I have my 4th month visit next week. Im excited as well and see a light at the end if the tunnel. Hoping to have my surgery end of November or early December.

I dont think its offensive at all. Honestly, Ive probably eaten like that women. Out of control and losing yourself in a dark place. Its very sad. Congrats for making your life change. I hope to have my RNY scheduled in Nov or Dec. It will be nice to have a real life again but realizing having to face your feelings head on can be a challenge too. Its all part of the journey back to a healthy life. Good luck!

Sorry, I think the way I phrased my post mislead u. I felt the same way u felt after talking to my friends who are nurses. When I talked to my Dr. and dietician they made me feel better by saying that nurses only see the complications and not the successes which can be a one sided opinion. I know many that have had success and I am also a nurse. Good luck!

Ive had nurses that are friends of mine tell me the same things. My response is that they dont see the success stories and the complications are just a fraction of success stories. Ive talked to my Dr. and dietician and they both said the same thing. They only see the complications. I would guess the complications of being obese are higher.
