  1. I live in the Tacoma area and it sounds like a lot of folks are up north so I like the idea of trying to meet around South Center. It would be helpful to meet around a time when we didn't t have to fight traffic. I think I am getting ready mentally for this. My problem is finding time when my work schedule doesn't intrude. I am counting on the fat that some folks say they weren't sick at all after wards and could go back to old activities right away.
  2. I was ready to make a deposit with Dr Aceves also and I think it is prudent to wait until Dec to get a feel for the lay of the land but I am anxious to move forward for a couple of reasons. 1. I want to to do this in the summer , 2 I am having a revision and will be having my band removed. Meanwhile I am gaining weight and I will need to buy new clothes soon. I would love to hear from anyone who has had the sleeve by Dr aceves' replacement. Lylabelle that sounds like an awesome weight loss. Just enjoy it. To Sphiderphish where is your doc?
  3. Thanks for the info. I am guessing that both of you had it done close to home. I will need to take several days off to go to Mexico twice and also am paying for it myself. Convenince and cost are issues but of course health needs to be high on my list as well. I am wondering what percentage of folks have it done in two steps and so will keep looking for more info. I was not aware of the med site so will look into that. thank you.
  4. I am wondering how many people had the band removed first to be followed up lasted by the sleeve? I just spoke to Dr Alveres office and they now do it in tow procedures. That adds to the cost, recovery time, time off work, travel expense etc BUT if it is a good thing to do then I need to consider it. I have had my band for over 10 years now so if anyone is going to have scar tissue I am guessing it will be me. What happens with other surgeons, if they open you up and see a lot of scar tissue do they just move forward or do they stop? I m looking for someone with a lot of revision experience. I was planning to go to Dr Aceves but that is not possible. Has anyone go to any of the docsthat Dr. Aceves worked with? I would love to get feedback on anyone who has had a good or bad revision experience. Do they actually open you up and then say nope its not going to work!

    Choosing your surgeon

Thank you for your response. It makes me sad even though I didn't know him since I read such wonderful things about him. Congrats on your surgery I see that you just had it done. It is funny you should mention Dr A since I was jut looing into him. Of course he advertises a lot so maybe that is not that unusual. Where is he located? Do you fly to San Diego to see him also? Do you know if he has any experience with revisions?
  6. After researching for a surgeon I finally became comfortable with the decision to go with Dr. Aceves. I was just setting up my appointment when I was told that Dr. Aceves has been in an accident. For those of you who know and love him I am sorry to report this. I already wrote his coordinator and sent[prayers his way but I have no idea if it is a he just fell down and sprained his ankle or if it is serious. I was told that he could not perform my surgery. I figure if you know him you may wish to send him your well wishes. meanwhile I am afraid that I will go back to having cold feet. Does anyone have any ideas on how to quickly choose a surgeon? I prefer not to spend several weeks on this again. I a plan to go to Mexico for cost and because it sounds like they have some top notch care. Since I am a revision meaning I will hap the lap band removed I want to go with someone with a lot of experience. I had the band placed over 10 years ago in Monterrey and loved my surgeon but would like to stay close to the West Coast this time. Ideas?
  7. Hi folks- I am in the Tacoma area and looking into surgery in Mexico. So far I have read a lot about Dr. Aceves and while he is a little pricier than other docs in Mexico it sounds like he has a very conservative (read that as safe) approach. I had a lap band in Mexico over 10 years ago. That was before they were approved in the states. it was a great experience and a wonderful tool until I started having issues two years ago. Unfortunately I am still battling the same pre surgery concerns as last time I dealt with this. I would like to touch base with anyone locally who had a revision surgery. I am dealing with issues such as, what do I tell the people I work with when taking time off is hard. Also how do I assure my 80 something year old mother that it is safe. Anyhow if there is a local group I would love to drop in. If there isn't one then I think I may just have to start one later this summer.
